I have 5 from various vendors. 2 32Gig and 3 16gig. If all come through, I would be willing to share 1-2 with the Gaf crew. I just have a feeling most of them will be canceled.....

If you're willing to part with a 16gig, I'd buy one off of you!

Or anyone for that matter, if they have an extra 16gig.

Same here. Might have a couple extra 16gbs from HP. Since they were supposedly sold out I ended up getting some from amazon. Hopefully it gets canceled tomorrow or I'll just end up calling HP.

HP the master of troll. Personal devices division reinstated on monday lol

I have been going to the canadian hp site and keep seeing this:

So... they say 99 and 149, but you can only purchase the 149 version (there is no "buy" button for the 16 GB only the 32 GB).
So, I did it... but it shows up with full price.
I am going to contact HP tomorrow and see if they're going to reduce the price to 149.99... if not, then I'll cancel the order, or return it for refund.

Cheers.

I want to believe this was all an elaborate decision by top men at HP at brute-forcing a webOS community, and attracting licensees like Samsung and app developpers.

if that were the case then those guys are the marketing men of the fucking year.

so the 32gb is 499 on the canada site but its likely theyll adjust the price as they ship them out.... but im nervous about clicking buy :S

Im sure they will fix the price for you.

Well, look... if you have the overhead then go for it, and if they don't reduce the price, simply refund it (don't open the damned thing when it arrives! Haha).
Or, cancel the payment on the credit card - false advertising - 149.99 vs. 499.99, hp mentioning they'll honour the lower prices etc (see the other screenshots for reference).

I'm not too worried... I know that I won't end up paying for it if they try and stick to 499.99, that's for sure!

Are they? I mean yeah, you can sell super-expensive things at very, very cheap prices but most companies want to make a profit.

who says they wont make a profit off this in the end? say a million got sold for this price which lets them get a very nice community started and then keep making the device at the original price and people start buying it thanks to word of mouth. they will make money in the end and ultimately more than if they had kept selling the tablet at the original price.

BALLS TO THE WALL BITCHAZ

On various forums people keep mentioning that new stock might show up on retail channels tomorrow, ie Monday, including Best Buy.

Any validity to that claim?

Wish I could of partaken in this deal but the weekend wasn't that kind.

I'd totally be down to buy one off of you. I've been looking around and refreshing various sites for the past few hours :l

The amount they likely lost on their TouchPad fire sale is probably the same amount a proper marketing campaign costs.

So, who knows?

If it was a marketing ploy, the real test will be if people will buy it again at a regular price.

Dude, they just lost at least $150 million in two days. They've announced to shareholders they're shutting it down. It's done.

Touchpads aren't going back to a regular price because HP is out of the hardware business. At this point HP is just recouping as many costs as they can. The one benefit they are reaping is getting webOS into the hands of people. Mindshare.

RIP Touchpad.

Long Live webOS.

So, is there or is there not still a chance to get one for $100? Now that I'm home and can actually order one if I find it.

Slickdeals has a pretty good update ticker on the next availability. Most stores are sold out by now though.

I don't think even HP expected a response like this. I think this puts them in a very good position to get Samsung and HTC to license the OS. Especially now that Google owns Motorola.

I'm sure that's what the intention was with such aggressive pricing.

They didn't 'lose' anything. That money was spent when they built it, ideally the rest could be written off.

Manufacturers get bitten by returns and no-sale products all the time, and often don't make their costs back, it's part of the system. Now though, they've suddenly created a webOS tablet base at least a million strong, probably 2, considering BestBuy US alone had 250,000 in stock.

That's marketshare. As they said in their shareholder meeting, they want to get out of the hardware business, and focus on software and enterprise. Creating a HP App Catalogue app and consumer base will attract licensees, making them money while keeping them out of the low margin hardware sector.

They did not make 2 million of them, I doubt there were even a million made. Apple only made 3.27 million in its first 4 months, Xoom has had 690,000 since February, Playbook has had 500,000 since April and Asus said they were aiming for 300,000 Transformers in its first quarter.

And that'll still be a drop in the bucket compared to IPad and Android and know one will care in the development community because there will still be far better options.

I could see at least 500,000 having been made. Best Buy had 250,000. Hell PCmalls Government/Corporate only site had 10,000 units.

Yeah, two is probably a generous amount, but webOS has without a doubt, in a single weekend surpassed honeycomb in marketshare.

No...and chances are we will all get canceled notifications tomorrow.
Some people might. However, Amazon forces sellers to enter the quantity they have available when creating a product listing. So, unless OnSale blatantly lied about their stock, they really did have a huge stockpile of them.

...and yet none of that matters, because nobody is going to develop for a dead OS.

You're delusional if you honestly think this is going anywhere. What part of "We're out of the consumer market." do you not understand?

lol, I was indeed #4.

Were you the person immediately behind him or someone else?

Theoretically the OS is the only thing that will live on.

Yep.

You went over to Staples after you grabbed yours, and I ran into you over there (baseball hate, and a do-rag under). Asked if they still had any left. Nope. Went straight to Home Depot for some hardware instead.

Companies lie, yes, but they've said they're still committed to the software, so I don't see it as being delusional. A company deciding to drop hardware manufacturing doesn't signal the end of whatever it was running, we're in the weekend, with no information and nothing but confusion, but I'm sure that HP will reassess webOS after gaining so many customers.

That's not how a manufacturer liquidation works. HP sold them to Best Buy at a price slightly under retail. Best Buy makes it's money on the margin. By authorizing a liquidation, they have to pay Best Buy back the difference. That's a new loss on top of the loss they already incurred with the previous price cut.

They're done. The company is exiting the CE and PC making business. Just be happy some people were able to get a nice deal on a decent piece of hardware.

You're preaching some EOL Dreamcast-era levels of delusion here.
