people are saying the 8X is ripping off the lumias?
i mean...it's basically just a One X with the glass going up a bit higher so the speaker grill is inside it and the camera hump is gone on the back

The coverage here is indicating that these will, in fact, be the flagship WP8 phones at least as featured in Microsoft's marketing output. The platform actual likelihood of success besides, that is an extremely significant blow to MS' most vulnerable hardware partner. I'm not trying to portray this as some betrayal of Nokia (lol these are phones), just to note that this significantly undermines the company's last chance of survival.

If HTC focuses more on Windows Phone (less on their Android devices) and those HTC Windows Phones are also marketed, that's great for Nokia, too. They went Windows Phone because they didn't want to go at this all by themselves, but join a bigger ecosystem. They want other OEMs to sell Windows Phones, too. Windows Phone might get a wider reach, bigger market share, more acceptance in the market.
Nokia still has more rights than HTC (they can customize the OS), they probably work closer with Microsoft, and Microsoft pays them. They also have an advantage by focusing completely on Windows Phone. They have a great number of exclusive apps.

Going forward there's a chance HTC will do a Windows Phone and an Android version for all their phones. That's great for the ecosystem.

Much Much better looking than the 920.

Just partially dip the 920 in some paint. Looks like what HTC did.

Yeah, WP needs a ton of advertising from Nokia, Samsung and HTC as well as the carriers to make this work.

What I have you to see anyone mention is how, just a few months ago, Microsoft denied HTC the permission to build a W8 tablet... saying it didn't have the chopsexperience to do it properly.

So this is kind of weird.

Anyway, I'm a fan of HTC... so I'm confident this phone will be very solid.

It was because HTC wanted to put Sense instead of metro in their tablets

There will be an android based event?when?

HTC's new flagship Android devices aren't due until Q2 next year or so. Should be a good while away. They may show a 5" Galaxy Note competitor some time soon, but the next new refresh isn't until 2013.

Really getting a zunehd vibe from that one.... if it was made out of metal and was more squared off would be even closer to a zunehd phone.

Wow that is pretty spot on.... I didn't notice that.

Is that really why?

Smh, HTC.

HTC engineers wanted to build a Windows device with a customized home screen that would be distinctive to its devices, as manufacturers are allowed to do with Android. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft refused, said the people, and HTC was left off the list of companies the software maker provided with early versions of the software.

Whats with the android statusbar?

They just slapped a screenshot of their Android music app on the 8X to promote the beats feature.

Man, these new Win Phone 8 devices are all looking pretty sexy.

Almost second guessing the iPhone 5.

If the OS support were looking better I would seriously consider switching. I really like what I'm seeing.

have they got a batter that will last longer than 12hours on standby?
Whaaa? My Lumia 800 just lasted 4 days, 16 hours. To be fair, I didn't use it much, and I have bluetooth turned off, and 'battery saver mode' is set to kick in at 25%, but otherwise the wi-fi was set to connect periodically to fetch email etc, and I used it to send a few texts here and there...

The Lumia 800 is not considered to have particularly good battery life (the 900 was much improved).

So I dunno where you're getting 12 hours standby from...

Man these 8X's look sexy as FUCK. But no PureView camera and Wireless charging make me still want a Lumia 920. But I like the hot hot colors on the HTCs more ...

Goddamnt Windows Phone seriously stands out now against Android and iOS. Good strategy to really pop the phones to attract attention and IMO .. style. People buy new phones every 19 months now so buying something daring isn't that wild of an idea. I know personally I'm tired of my 6th black phone in a row. White isn't daring, its a side step at best.

dat neon yellow or lime/grey o_O

European prices are in, apparently: €319 for the 8S and €599 for the 8X.

If Nokia releases its Lumias at the same price points HTC is going to get shat on. They better promote the shit out of that Beats amplifier.

No, they didn't. No company copies mediocrity and/or failure on purpose.

Also, Sony totally ripped off the Lumia, like HTC did. Now go back to your Sony Mobile cave.

Cmon son. I'm a Nokia man, but I'd love to see Sony creating one of those ultra-stylish bricks with WinPho instead of Android.

Which Sony phone ripped off the Lumia? Just interested to hear that, since the Arc and NXT designs are pretty unique. The Acro HD has been out in Japan for ages, and leaked well before the first Lumia.

Brot, I thought you had given up on WP, that piece of shit Galaxy treating you well?

Yes, the NXT was unique and I'm just mad that Sony went back to generic boring bricks after that. The latest phone looks like a damn electrical shaver. Or at least it looks like what electrical shavers should look like.

Why would I give up on the best looking OS on the market? The Generic Nexus was always just a stopgap, because my piece of shit LG died sooner than expected and getting another unsupported device few months before the reboot would've been pointless. Also, the unusable piece of shit OS on the Xperia S was the only reason I didn't buy it. That laggy mess.

You mean they went back to the greatness of the Xperia Arc design? yes they did and they made the best damn looking phone on the market.

Bit fucking absurd that the HTC 8X is 132.2mm, while the new Motorola (with the same 4,3" screen dimension) is 122.5mm.

What the fuck HTC?

The NXT designs were great, but they left a lot of wasted space at the bottom of the devices, and made them a lot longer than they needed to be which was a very common complaint. However, the new Arc designs aren't much better, they just got rid of the transparent strip and put the "XPERIA" branding there instead in about the same amount of vertical space where the buttons went.

The latest firmware is very stable, and someone I know using the Jelly Bean alpha 6.2.A.1.XXX says it is very, very stable and fluid. If you have the CDMA GNex (which you do right) then it is likely that the Xperia S will get JB before it.

However, there is little to no evidence that Sony copied the Lumia phones. The Arc 2012 series are based on the original Arc and the NXT series may be brought back for 2013, but it seems unlikely at this stage with a larger emphasis being placed on waterproofing and robustness.

I would like to see Sony make a WP8 device, but it seems unlikely since any device would have to ship with Xbox and not PS-Mobile which is being lined up as Sony's next big push in mobile devices.
