i'm set

I keep reading that Sandy is merging to form a Voltron of storm with some other weather systems. But i've yet to see a picture or map or details about these other storms. Are there any? Help me GAF.

They have been posted quite a bit in this thread but I'll let Weather-GAF tell you about that lol.

There's apparently a cold front coming from the west that will cause 1 to 2 feet of snow to drop on Virgina and surrounding areas.

It's already merged, and is in the process of feeding off of that front.

Earlier in the week, there was a cold front moving in from the west. Sandy has since merged and continues to merge with that system.

Somewhat Weather-GAF.

Yes. That would be closer to it.
I love tracking/watching/studying these storms. they are fascinating to me.
There is more power in even a small one than in the largest nuke.

I've seen a new side to Cajun today. And I like it. :)

I like your other side too of course!

No big soda, though!

From Wikipedia:
At 11 p.m. EDT on October 28, Sandy surpassed 2010's Hurricane Igor to become the largest hurricane in Atlantic history, with a maximum gale-force wind diameter of 930 mi (1500 km).

I don't understand this. If there are gale-force winds in a 930 mile diameter, why is it barely windy here in Philadelphia, about 200 miles from the center of the storm? Is it because we're NW of the storm? If it goes right over us will we miss the worst wind?

Robo call from comcast about how they are on top of any outages. Comcast lies

Here from Newark, Delaware.

They called me too. But I'm at work though. I'm considered "emergency personnel" since I work at the hospital. I'm just a patient transporter. But I might have to stay over night here at the hospital. As long as I got my iPhone charger, earphones, money and a room to lay my head. I'm straight.

I just think its kinda ridiculous that he worded it that way.

Its not. People have to hear the words YOU WILL DIE before they act osmetimes. Often that isnt even enough.

Man, that is absolutely beautiful.

It really is. hurricanes are gorgeous looking storms.

So at this point, noon in New Hampshire - am I doing "just the tip" with Sandy right now?

No worries, just the tip.

For real it is spitting outside but not typical-rain raining. It's cloudy and sucky out but I have no idea what to expect. Is this the worst it'll get? The storm is 260 miles from NYC and the diameter of the storm is hundreds of miles across.

So far, not bad. We had heard that by this time it would be a lot worse. Despite all the fucking insanely hyper and sensational news coverage, I don't really know what is going on. It's just alarming update after alarming update and to me it is just a rainy day.

It isn't really even windy here.

Thats how it is when youl ive inland. Unless you are within a few miles from a coast the conditions arent much worse than a really bad thunderstorm. In a lot of cases, that derecho that hit you guys this year caused more damage than you'll get from this.
For those on the coast, its a different story and they will go through hell.

power company has issues with substations so my downtown was doomed

they were going to shutdown at high tide. So they just came really close but the next high tide is midnight

I think where I am - Toms River, NJ - will be OK. Latest track shows probability of hurricane force winds being low for that area. The southern tip of NJ is going to get crushed though. Is the storm supposed to slow down once it reaches land and travels north thru PA and NY?

We have a bunch of power crew according to our Govener but they can't do shit because of the winds. They won't be go 60 feet high because of it. There is a chance my power will go out.

So basically, this is just a "if you live near any type of water and/or the coast line" be worried?

Im near Philly, Jersey side, and wonder if my only problem will be strong wind, rain, and my power going out. Trying to figure out if I should be in panic mode or just ride it out at home.

Because Philly is inland. The winds have to travel over a lot of terrain covered with cities before it reaches you. It will slow down significantly.
The northeast quadrant is the worst.

To be honest your area will definitely get a bit crazy, but unless you are right on the water you should be ok.
Those barrier island homes though? Gone.

Man, that is absolutely beautiful.

I think I'd go crazy in that plane. To be up in the air, and seeing a wall of clouds on all sides, thousands of feet up in the air. I'm thinking the diameter of that eye was something like 40 miles. 40 miles!!!! What's that, like 1/3rd of Long Island? Closer to half?

Damn I don't have any alcohol :(

Governor Christie telling people on the barrier islands that they're stupid haha

They are actually.
Anyone on a barrier island in this kind of weather is a fucking idiot.
Period.

Basically, yes. Unless were talking about a Cat 4,5 being inland away from water even a few miles is pretty safe, aside from local wind effects and tree damage.
Ive ridden out about 75-80 mph winds before. Its interesting to say the least.
Florida Gaf has been through even worse.
