Hyper Light Drifter patches in 60 FPS, Boss rush, easy mode on PC.

Your opinion. Steamspy says 184,872 ± 11,062 owners. I think with 60 fps since launch those numbers could be higher. I have not bought the game until this patch because I did not think playing at 30 fps. I have read other identical comments in this thread.

Your opinion. Everyone who have tested the new version acknowledges that provides much better gameplay and the game is more enjoyable and therefore funny. Even people that at first were ok with the 30 fps lock. So, is not hyperbole. And more important, with our criticism we have ensured that the game has been transformed into something better. What have you got being so obtuse?

it's hyperbole because calling it unplayable is exaggeration.

You saying they missed a lot of sales because of the 30fps lock isn't worth talking about since we will never know what "a lot of sales" are. The FACT is that it was a top seller on all platforms. I'm sure a few more MIGHT have been sold if it was 60fps from the beginning but not in the hyperbolic way you talk about.

Why easy mode? The strength of that game relies on some challenge, otherwise it's pretty lackluster

I'm not personally interested in an easy mode either, but there were multiple articles written about how unforgivingly difficult it was, and I imagine that turned away a fair few potential purchases. It's not surprising that Heart Machine would prioritize one of their most-criticized points to address first. Good on them for listening to the community.

Just so you guys are aware, there is a bug where the game screen turns a flat colour until you quit whenever you dash stab an enemy into a wall. The devs are working on it.

It's funny you mention this because they already addressed this long ago within a few weeks of release, and patched things to make the game easier like adding i-frames generously to the dash, made healing a lot faster, and made health refill at warp pads. The problem was those articles don't represent the community, and the devs caught some flak for the update from the playerbase to the point where some people understandably didn't want to update their builds of the game or asked for a toggle on the changes. Luckily Heart Machine almost immediately patched it to make things harder again (but not completely revert the changes) after hearing people out. I don't know if and what changes have been made since other than apparently adding more health kits lying around, but in a perfect world we would've received an Easy mode back then with the tweaks in that patch, and had normal mode remain unchanged in regards to difficulty.

I feel bad for Heart Machine that they had to go back and forth like that, and personally I don't know exactly why HLD got hammered initially with the "it's too hard" reputation that it did. It's a challenging game sure, but not abnormally so. I wouldn't even consider grouping it in "the problem of indie games being too hard".

All in all it's clear the devs put in a ton of development and support pre and post launch and it shows. It's still one of the best things I've played this year after playing it on release, and I think the present sum of whatever tweaks they've made won't change that. Of course the 60fps and boss rush makes it even better.

Does the game have much of a story?

It has a story but it's presented differently from the norm. The story comes down to how much you analyse the world and its details as well as your own interpretation. There's no text in the game outside of the menu/tutorial. It's not as abstract as something like INSIDE, but I'd also say it's not too far off.

Slap me for relating things based off your avatar, but some of it actually does remind me of Evangelion, at least in terms of imagery.

There is text, technically, you just have to translate it from their language :P

But it's not gibberish, and it has relevant lore information.

Yeah this happened to me yesterday, whole screen went green. I'll wait for a fix, I would like to finish this game one day.

Man, a lot of games can top sales list for a few days, that means nothing. This game is under 200K in steam, is a great number but not a "oh man what a seller!!! is over the roof and more sales are not necessary because is already high enough!!!"

Search in this thread, many people in my same situation about not buying it until 60 fps patch.

And the real FACT is:

Devs have worked very hard to get put the game at 60 fps. Do you really think they are fools and they have done it for nothing? Do you know more about their game sales than them?

I'm actually buying this FOR easy mode, not the 60 FPS. Outside of Soulsbornes, I tend to enjoy games on "normal" more than the hardest difficulties.

Well shit, this gives me an excuse to hold off on playing this on PS4, just incase this carries over to that version as well. Now I need excuses for the other 134,589 games in my backlog.

Um, the Forza Horizon 3 60fps option, it's already there as well as a variable framerate option.

I believe he was making a reference to the ridiculous and inhibitive specs required to run at a locked 60fps. For a lot of us, a game that runs 60fps only some of the time is not considered a 60fps game.

Your wish...

sorry to bump this up.

I just started playing this on ps4 and saw that this was also on pc. tempted to get a mod or something to play at 60fps, until i read that devs added support for 60fps on pc and then i noticed that the ps4 also included this update. Do i have to enable it somewhere? So far from what i played it doesn't feel likes its running at 60fps, and when i go into the settings i don't see any options either.

I don't own the game yet so I can't say. I assume it'd be a automatic thing, but having seen a YT video of the PC update, it has 60 fps mode as a setting in one of its menus. Maybe that's how it is on PS4 as well. Are you sure you have the update running? (Update came with newcomer difficulty setting and boss rush mode.)

Love your avatar, btw. Laughed out loud when I saw it in game. xD

Honestly I'm sold on it because of the addition of an easy mode. Always loved how this game looked but it looked difficult which was kind of a turn off.

Edit: wat that's been there all this time?????

I could've gotten this waaaaay sooner. Darn it.

Sorry for bumping this but I started playing this on PC and I was getting weird framedrops and inconsistent frametiming in a lot of areas. Is there a recommended combination of driver/RTSS/ingame settings to make this as smooth as possible or is 60fps mode just kinda janky?
