Hyrule Historia is Being Officially Localized, Published by Dark Horse Comics

The timeline in this book doesn't make sense to me. They essentially added an alternate universe. It is something that I predicted but was not happy with when it showed up because they tried to peddle it as a branch of the timeline.

It was the only way the pre-OOT games were going to fit into the grand scheme of things.

Oh my god, thank you Dark Horse.

I have been so close to pulling the trigger and paying £60 for a copy of Hyrule Historia on eBay multiple times now. Not only can I not believe that Nintendo has listened to common sense and licensed it for localisation, but that it has gone to Dark Horse - who did a fantastic job on the Alice: Madness Returns artbook.

Yes! Now us superior freedom-loving SUV-driving Americans can lovingly stroke the concept art of Ganondorf in the Oracle games!

I hate SUVs. Freedom's OK. Sweden seems like a cool country.

Ooooooooh.

I can think of worse things than owning this in two languages. Thanks, OP.
Now maybe I'll actually open my stupid copy

Am I the only one who thinks the Japanese cover looks a lot better? (Assuming that the image provided is the actual english cover)

I mean, I'll buy it anyway, but still. :<

I was concerned this would end up as an exclusive Club Nintendo super special prize thing, but NOPE, hardcover goodness and everything. Much hype.

I'm just going to assume that's not the actual cover. I'd rather pretend and be disappointed later than whine about it now. :|

We've seen localized artbooks for super-niche stuff like Gungrave, Valkyria Chronicles, and the Atelier series over the past few years. I can't believe, with that knowledge, people presumed that a comprehensive Zelda artbook getting released here was a long shot.

Well by the time it is out we'll be nearer the 27th anniversary so that logo had to go, obviously the Japanese text also has to be removed which would end up leaving the Zelda logo, Hyrule Historia and a massive gap. You've also got the need to have an identifiable character on the front cover to satisfy the typical US marketing executives, so artwork of Link had to be slapped in.

In the context of what they've had to work with it's about the best you could expect - though that isn't to say the Japanese cover isn't much better, it just could have been a lot worse.

GAT Dayum. I'm not even that heavily invested in the Zelda series, but that is one sexy book.

I wish other long-running series would get something like this, a compendium of trivia, history, making-of content... etc.

I'd kill for a Metal Gear Historia or a Final Fantasy Historia.

It doesn't need to be exactly the same, just as classy as the Japanese one is. They could have done just as well by using the Hylian crest with "The Legend of Zelda Hyrule Historia" underneath it.

Very good, will purchase. :)

Finally, something awesome that comes out on my birthday! I ignored the Japanese release because of import for something I would hardly understand. But this is perfect!

If this were being localised for Europe as the primary market, it probably would have been classy and minimalistic. Haven't you noticed how any media product in the US always follows the same trend of slapping trashy character renders all over the front and having the logo always at the top?

Aren't Final Fantasy Ultimanias basically that? You have to buy them for each individual game, though.
