Hyrule Historia is Being Officially Localized, Published by Dark Horse Comics

They're just aware the main reason anyone's buying the limited edition at its humongous price tag is the fact that it's... limited. They probably undershot it a bit in this case, but if there were too many made, the chances of superfans not wanting to throw down the cash increases.

I really think this is bullshit.

I'd buy it because it has a sexy cover and looks cooler than the standard edition.

I import blu rays from Europe because they have better covers than North American blu rays. Nothing to do with anything being limited :P

Limited editions are stupid. There are better solutions that make everyone happy. Take the Japanese Dragon Boxes (Dragon Ball Z DVDs) for instance:

The Dragon Boxes were limited items in the truest sense of the word. An order start date would be announced several months in advance, as well as an order deadline. The ordering windows were typically several months in length, and all manufacturing of the box sets were based solely on the number of orders received. In other words, they only made enough boxes to satisfy the orders made within the given timelines, after which point production on the boxes ended indefinitely.

That would have been perfect for this release.

I think you're in a small minority then. This faux leather cover isn't impressing me all that much. Limited Editions are attractive because of their perceived value.

OTOH, a Collector's Edition usually has more bells-and-whistles which might appeal to people who like extravagance. I'll buy a game CE occasionally if it has a cool art book or something. Don't care about "value" in that case.

edit: Of course the Dragon Ball approach would be a fair one, that's probably better for all parties. Not trying to imply otherwise! But yeah, the concept of an "LE" is very much "bullshit", as you put it. It's a cheap way to overcharge and raise demand for a small niche of fans who will want it.

I might be able to! I'm not in the US though so shipping could be annoying/expensive. It depends how many of my orders ship. I would say I'm more than covered but I thought that about the FF artbook too, lol. *Shakes fist at Dark Horse*

Everyone else's orders still standing after BN and Big Bad? I can't believe how close we're getting! We need more hype!

We can only depend on each other! I'm willing to reimburse for shipping and handling and thanks! Lets hope all our dreams come true on getting this edition!

Cool, we'll keep in touch! I've got a couple of dibs from RL friends but I have made orders at just about every possible outlet so fingers crossed!

Ugh, my Book Depository order now has the regular edition when I track my order instead of the limited edition like it showed before... Just sent them a CS message. Another one bites the dust, I assume.

So they were gonna charge you the price of the LE and send you the regular edition? Wow.

Frickin better not. or they'll be getting a PayPal claim up their butt holes. I'm just hoping it's a mistake,. Their listing for the LE has been sold out for a long time and is now a 404, so who knows?

:(

Bump for the response:

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

I have just spoken to the publisher for an update and I'm afraid they have heavily restricted the limited edition version of this title to a comic shop within the US.

Unfortunately this means that all booksellers outside the USA have had this title embargoed by the publisher. I'm very sorry about this but I'm afraid it is beyond our control.

Do you still wish to proceed with your order for the standard version or would you prefer to cancel and received a refund?

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I'm just about to send a filthy reply. Honestly!

damn, all this confiusion and nonsense over this book, makes me glad I preordered it from Amazon like 3 months ago, when it was first announced.

Damn you, Americans.

Even Canada can't get it. :(

Wow, that really sucks. Dark Horse has almost completely screwed Canadians out of this :\

What's happened over in Canada? I'm sure I won't be surprised at anything after all the Amazon CA cancellations tbh...

I think it actually sold out at Amazon before it was announced on the Dark Horse website? I got an order in there too but after what happened with the Final Fantasy book, I don't trust that they'll be able to ship it out.

I placed my order on Nov 24th, so I am hoping I am good to go.

Exactly, cos the blog post is dated as the 26th, and I'm pretty sure Amazon was sold out by then, which only gave the quickest of the quick the chance to actually order it.

http://www.darkhorse.com/Blog/1195/hyrule-historia-limited-edition

I've seen people complaining that they went straight from the blog post to sign up to be notified when it was available for Amazon... But they never will get notified because it sold out before that blog post!

You'll be good to go if you got an order in, but just keep your fingers crossed that Dark Horse don't decide to give like 10 copies to Amazon to fill a few hundred orders like they did with The Sky...

My orders so far:
Amazon (OK), Barnes and Noble (GONE), TFAW (OK), Book Depository (GONE), Forbidden Planet (OK), Amazon UK (OK), Local Comic Store (OK), RightStuf (OK)

However I predict that Forbidden Planet will disappear, along with Amazon UK. My local comic guy said it's pretty up in the air at the moment, but we're keeping our fingers crossed for a copy.
I'll be happy if even one of these turns up!

Book Depository Update:

Thank you for getting back to me.
When exactly did Book Depository plan to inform me that I was being charged nearly double for the standard edition and not in fact receiving what I originally paid for?
I am very disappointed that it was me that had to inquire about this. Did your company really just plan to rip me off like that without even bothering to notify me of the change?
Of course I do not want to proceed with my order. Are you joking? A refund should be the absolute minimum in this botch up!
I've never had a problem with Book Depository before but it seems you guys are going downhill lately...

I can confirm that I have successfully cancelled and refunded your order as requested. Please allow 1-3 working days for the funds to appear back into your account.

Not even a measly apology? Don't think I'll be using them again somehow. I've got one order pending with them, it will be my last I think.

Wow it seems like trouble across the board with this order. Thanks Dark Horse. You are right, these vendors really don't know anything its all up to DH if they want to distribute the allocations evenly or not. Thanks again for responding to my plea I will PM you my contact good sir.

Bolded kind of what I thought, I had the JPN version and the finish looks similar. Wasn't impressed with that one either. I tried to get the LE and it got cancelled so no biggie glad I can read the contents in English and put it back on the shelf. Also getting it for less than 20 is a bonus no need to spend extra cash.

Man I hate that this thread is just about people's stupid orders, every time it gets bumped I hope there's some actual product info, maybe some shots of the LE, but nope just more order bitchin. Come on people.

So if we want the Limited Edition, and we weren't aware that it already went up for order briefly... we're just shit out of luck?
Probably, though fly-by-night companies have been listing it lately, as evidenced by this thread... but it'll just get your hopes up, as most orders from the random companies have been cancelled. Dark Horse is only making 4000 of them.

The only difference is gold foil pages and a faux-leather cover. That's it. If you want the book, happily buy the standard edition with no regrets!

So I have an Amazon pre order for the LE that seems to be good, would changing the payment type mess with it at all?

Frickin better not. or they'll be getting a PayPal claim up their butt holes. I'm just hoping it's a mistake,. Their listing for the LE has been sold out for a long time and is now a 404, so who knows?

:(

lol paypal doesnt do shit for you. Ubisoft send me normal version of ACIII artbook instead of the advertised CE. Ubisoft denied to me that this ce even existed so i opened a paypal claim. But they said only ebay items are protected as far as fitting the description goes.

Good thing I just got refunded then! I've only had to make a claim once, when something didn't turn up (not off eBay) and Paypal refunded it pretty quickly. Good to know about the fitting the description thing though.

Book Depository are being careful not to acknowledge my queries about whether they were trying to rip me off by charging for the LE and sending the regular book, hahaha...

No Amazon is awesome (usually) to work with it won't cancel your order.

WTF reallly? They have the most inconsistent service ever, my wife bought something not through ebay for a sizable amount claimed not as described and they made the seller take the item back and they processed the refund. They really are terrible to work with they are getting large enough they should be regulated like a bank.

edit: https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security

They even talk about purchase protection what a bunch of chumps.

Yeah, but the thing is, I found out about the LE book because I think the OP had updated his post with the amazon link to the LE, so I jumped on it because of that.... I never even went to the DH blog....

I never actually linked to the Amazon LE page. I found out about it when Dark Horse put up their new blog post, but it was gone by then. :/

EDIT: I linked to the B&N page at one point, but quickly removed it when they started canceling.

Not sure if this is new, but Dark Horse has some preview pages available for viewing:

My Book Depositary order has been mauled into a regular edition too. Sent an e-mail asking why, but judging by the response other people have gotten it looks like I should begin drafting an any letter.

I pray my Forbidden Planet order holds. They were on the Dark Horse press release, and I'm pretty sure I ordered it super early.

Hmm...well, ordered mine in August when it was first announced, but back in August they didn't have the LE. So...I guess as long as I still get it, but still kinda cheesed I missed out on it.

Now that's more like it!

I'm thrilled to see that all of the Japanese sketch notes have been translated. They said they would be, but it was hard to totally believe it before seeing it here.

Can't wait!

I loved looking through the JPN version but wanted to understand all the text, the artwork is awesome I wish other Nintendo franchises got this much love. =0(

It seems the Nintendo World Store is doing a special event for the release of the book. They even have Limited Editions for sale. Since I live in the Netherlands, I can't go, so I hope my preorder at Archonia sticks. They haven't cancelled it, yet. But this might be an opportunity for those who live in/around NY:

Join us in an epic adventure January 25th from 6pm to 8pm as we celebrate the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia. This amazing hardcover containing an unparalleled collection of historical information on The Legend of Zelda franchise will be available for sale during event hours only. Published in both standard and limited edition formats, Nintendo World is the only location in North America to have the limited edition available for purchase, as part of this special pre-release event. Pre-orders are still available on a first come first serve basis. There will also be a costume contest and other activities for all to enjoy. Join us for this special quest that no Zelda fan can miss! The official launch date for the book is January 29th for those unable to attend the event.

That doesn't sound promising...

I preordered the standard book back when Amazon first started taking preorders. Very excited to get it!

I'm glad I checked my order recently, because I moved back in November and my old address was still listed. I had my Club Nintendo Elite reward go to my old address by accident and I never had them forwarded to my new address like it should have. Whoever lives in my old apartment is probably enjoying my posters!

I preordered this a few days ago. First time I've bought something like this, should be nice. :)

I love the standard version's cover, green and gold goes so well together and instantly makes me think of the world of Zelda, so bravo on that cover.

NYC-GAF, Nintendo World is doing a big release for the book next week.

was there an update of TFAW? I ordered an LE from them and a regular from Amazon

Probably. NWS will end up with like 3000 copies to fuck everyone over

Oh it better be as low as 500 LEs and the rest are regular
When they have events they are usually stocked up high for it but to screw everyone else over is not cool

Get Miyamoto and Everyone Else who worked on Zelda to show up and sign them at NWS and I'll be okay with them having 3000
