They are at least doing a reprint of The Sky. Not the same box set, but if you just want the artbook itself, it's nice.

I asked Dark Horse on twitter if this new run of The Sky was limited since I got screwed with the original. They said no so... I hope that's the case! Because damn I wanted those 3 books.

Care to link the tweets ?

Went to the Dark Horse twitter and didn't find anything

I don't trust them any more. There was no indication the first one was limited either. I mean yeah the thingy was signed but nobody knew it was that limited until release. Not going to take any chances with this!

I share in your paranoia, to be honest. But I'd like to think they won't allow it happen again. There's no reason for this to have a limited run anyway... there's no flipbook, Amano's personal book isn't in it, the fancy box isn't there and most importantly Amano's signature isn't an issue.

Yet they're limiting Hyrule Historia and the same types of cancellations and let downs are happening already... That doesn't even have any limited items, it's just a book with a different cover. No, I don't trust them, lol.

Now that's just not true. The limited Hyrule Historia was called limited 4000 copy run right from the get-go, it just sold out at a blinding speed. It wasn't left ambiguous (but to be honest, the fact The Sky's first edition was hand-signed by Amano was a good sign it wasn't going to be a big run to begin with, but I digress) like The Sky was, where everyone found out there were only 1000 copies in print after the fact.

This new version of The Sky seems to just be a standard publication. The regular edition of the book(s). Like the regular edition Hyrule Historia.

I didn't even bother with Historia LE because I got burned with The Sky and didn't feel like going through that again.

What annoys me though (as it did with The Sky, and what is happening in the Ni No Kuni thread right now) is that I'm willing to wager scalpers got a good number of the LE copies.

Wow...this sucks. Looks like I fucked this up too. I preordered the book back in September and when everything popped about the limited edition I thought that was the one I was going to get. Was just going through my open orders onon Amazon and realized what had happened. First the Ni No Kuni mess and now this.

Going to NYC tomorrow would be a reach for me, but if I did get to go, do you think it might be possible to get one?

Kind of wish we had a universal thread to cover all of the various special editions of games and all. I barely have the time to unwrap my games let alone keep up on everything like this...

My order is finally paid for. Had Amazon.com credit I was going to use for a game but couldn't decide on one so just used part of it for the Historia order. Had no clue there was a Limited Edition. Just ordered the regular hard cover back in November. Hope my order is safe.

of course

which is why limited editions in this day and age are fucking stupid

Huh? What part isn't true? I never said it was ambiguous this time around.

Can kinda be remedied with a 1 per household order limit. I know people can make more accounts but buying like 20-50 copies becomes rather difficult at some point like that.

This part:

It has a gold trim and a faux-leather cover. And they did say it was limited to 4000 copies. With the original issue of The Sky, they never explicitly said it was only going to be 1000 copies.

Well, at least with Ni No Kuni the number wasn't set in stone until after orders closed, so they probably helped to get more copies of it out there at least. This though, it's set to 4,000, so just ordering them up fast won't change anything.

... And probably tempts people into scalping. I got a pre-order in, but I don't REALLY care about having the faux leather and gold trimming, but just doesn't seem wise to cancel.

I think you misunderstand what I mean. I mean that nothing prevents them from making more gold trim and faux-leather cover in the same way that having Amano sign every copy limited the production of The Sky.

It's limited and already seems poorly handled, that's why I don't trust them. I know the situations are a little different, but they're too similar for my liking.

Oh. Well yeah, in that you're right. But if we're talking about the reprint of The Sky, well, they never said it was limited in the description, and they said on twitter it wasn't. So turning around and doing so wouldn't really look good on their part so I'd hope they don't do it. Especially after what happened with that first edition.

With Historia, it was definitely limited from the start.

So, I emailed Archonia this morning about my preorder of the LE, and this was their response:

We had anticipated the possible allocations and spread our orders over several suppliers and ordered plenty more copies than we allowed preorders. So we should be able to cover all preorders without problem. A first shipment should arrive next week and I believe your order will be filled by that first batch.

We will be getting them for sure. It's a shame for amazon etc. but it looks like we'll be one of the few stores in Europe that will have the book. Which is good for us of course.

Not trusting them completely yet, but this sounds at least positive. For those who had their orders cancelled in Europe, I suggest keeping an eye out on their product page for the LE. Who knows, maybe they'll get copies extra?

with the expected snow in NYC to start around 4:00pm today, I wonder how the lines will look tonight for the release party...

I might trek in and see if I can get a copy of the LE....

Yay, just got the mail that mine was shipped from Amazon Germany. Won't get my hands on it for another two weeks or so, but I'm really excited for it :)

baw, I really hope Chapters doesn't fuck this up. I ordered from them cause there was a $5 off coupon, knowing they have a reputation for sometimes being unreliable with pre-orders.

After this whole Digital River/Ni no Kuni issue, it really makes me appreciate online stores like Rightstuf even more.

Let me explain.

I live in Canada and have the Limited Edition through Rightstuf. They only offered basic USPS shipping when I placed my order, so I went with that. However, I received an email from Rightstuf a few days ago informing me that they now offer FedEX shipping to Canada, which means import charges can be paid up-front and not "mysteriously" at the door upon arrival, and the shipment should reach me even faster. They asked me to simply reply to the email to let them know what to do, or that they would call me within a few days asking for my decision. I immediately emailed them back asking to upgrade to FedEX shipping, and they replied back saying that it's been done and that my pre-order for the Limited Edition will be shipped via this method.

Now that's service!

Oh, I also entered an incorrect expiry date when I originally placed my order [I was excited to see the Limited Edition being offered, and thus, my trembling fingers did not obey], but I was able to call them up and easily update my credit card information. Rightstuf, they are awesome.

I'm also expecting my Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition [and Collector's Guide] next week, since I pre-ordered last year when they initially became available, but I really feel bad for those getting their orders cancelled. I can only hope that Namco Bandai allows them some means to purchase a copy for themselves. :(

Now that's service!

It's sort of sad to see how most of us got accustomed to being treated indifferently or badly by retailers in general, and that these relatively small gestures companies like Rightstuf do for their customers are almost seen as something exceptional (where they should be normal).

Don't get me wrong: I do greatly appreciate these little things myself as well.

That's true. While it might seem like a small gesture to some, I'm still appreciative that they informed me of another shipping method [one that I prefer] that I never would have known of otherwise. They could have easily shipped it out via USPS as planned, so it's nice that they have response with their customers for things like this. It shows they care, and that's why I'll continue shopping with them.

I can't say the same for Digital River. -_-

I just got back from Nintendo World. I got the limited edition. This is such a pleasant end to the week after that Wizard's Edition fiasco.

Also, I didn't know it was possible to be that cold and not get frostbite.

Congratulations! I would be interested in seeing any pictures of it [if it's possible]. I know you likely won't be opening it, so even pictures of the front/pack [whilst still in its original shrinkwrap] would be appreciated, but do not go out of your way on my behalf.

Being a Canadian, I'm pretty sure I'm immune to frostbite, but I'm glad to hear that you survived unscathed.

How were the lines? I was en route to the city to get a LE, and then I made the mistake of trying to take the Holland Tunnel via the Turnpike, and sat in a hr's worth of traffic, so I just took the Bayonne exit and went home.

Haha let me warm up a bit then I'll write all about it and take pics. That definitely goes down as the most insane thing I've ever done for something gaming related. Wow!

Sounds good man, thanks in advance!

It sounds like a fun experience, though, especially if there were a lot of people lined up alongside you. I remember camping for around 4 hours for my Wii pre-order and it's something I'll absolutely never forget. It was around -25 too, and early morning. Thankfully, I had coffee to keep me [semi] warm.

I have a preorder for the limited edition at NW, but I'm sick and it was too freaking cold for me outside. D= Hope the event went smoothly, it sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun.

That's awesome I love the Nintendo World store always make a point to visit it when we go to NYC. Congrats! Did you get any pics at the event or was it just they put out some copies and they didn't make a big deal of it?
