I think today's stream shows that Agatha was added to increase the game's Moe contingent.
I'll give you linebeck though, I always forget about him. But man, why do people want the king of red lions? He's the god damn boat and he doesn't do anything but lose. Same with Makar. I'd like a Tetra outfit for Zelda, but I don't need her being completely seperate, I doubt she'd play much differently than rapier Zelda anyway.
Well still need Groose, We still need Tingle, we still need one more person from OOT, but I think those will be the last 3 heroes revealed. And then it's all villains, starting with the 3 we know and then TWIN-MOTHERFUCKING-ROVA!
No, but you gotta remember, that first game had like, 17 character total. They did a bad job with it.
If you can't play as the villains (and that's a big if), my bet would be that Nintendo fucked up and didn't allow it.
That gif is gold.
Real talk, The character select screen they're showing is probably heroes only. In the final game, they'll probably have a button you press and all of those flip over and have the playable villians.
So we're looking at 13 heroes and 13 villains...less than I'd hoped but...I guess.
Keep in mind, we haven't seen sub bosses for villains yet either, or the inevitable scenario when Heroes have to fight Heroes.
at the end of the day, this is STILL just a musou game.
Musou game or not, if they play their cards as well as they have been so far this game should be filled to the bursting with LoZ fanservice and, as a result, should make a lot of people very happy. Having a really big character roster would be a signficiant part of that, though, at least for me.
Wind Waker reps could easily include Tetra, King Hyrule, Medli (my personal most wanted character), Makar, and maybe even Beedle. Plus Wind Waker's two sequels have a handful of memorable characters that are practically mandatory to include, the top picks being Linebeck (Phantom Hourglass) and Byrne (Spirit Tracks).
32 characters wouldn't be terrible, but considering the sheer number of characters that Dynasty Warrior games usually come equipped with, as well as the sheer number of notable characters present in the Zelda series...
I guess, to me, what it comes down to is this: if there wasn't going to be a Really Really Big roster, they shouldn't have included OCs and minor characters like Agitha.
Were there original characters in the One Piece and Gundam musou games? If not, then I don;t see why they felt the need to add them to this game, especially when we have Zelda characters that could take their place.

Like I said, if this game doesn't let you play as the villains, someone over at Bamco is fucking up. It's super wasteful to create movesets for enemies captains and then not use those movesets for playable characters. Nothing we've seen from any of the 6 revealed enemy characters seems so crazy that they couldn't be player controlled.

Nope, but Zelda is different from One Piece. Every Zelda game has unique characters, so why not this one too?
This is just a spin-off, not the next Zelda game. Hell, it doesn't even have Zelda in the title.
lol What if she's some Zelda fan that gets sucked into Hyrule? I know some people will hate the concept but for a game so full of fan service, I think it would be hilarious. So Lana is the breaking 4th wall character of the game?
Im ok with this.

Ok, I know I might regret this but I made the decision to buy this game.
I hope the soundtrack is a bunch of arranged Zelda songs - that and OoT assets in HD will make it worth it. Even if I can't see the gameplay holding my interest for very long.
Whoever's doing the OT, the title should be
Hyrule Warriors |OT| "The enemies don't attack!" "So put it on Hard."
Just cut that off right at the head.

Well, Bamco isn't involved with this game, but I see your point.
Anyway, the worst I can foresee is that they're all free-mode characters and don't have a separate story of their own. But so long as they're playable in Challenge Mode, I wouldn't really care.
Are the real Musou fans as excited about this as the rest of us? I've only pllayed a handful of Musou-style games, but this is the only time I've really been impressed by one. I feel like the series wouldn't have the stigma attached to it if it had adopted these adventure elements, items, and improved miniboss fights earlier on.
I should clarify that I'm not asking that in a "will this be successful as a business venture" perspective, but a "is this as good as good as I think it is or am I just unfamiliar" one. Putting fanservice aside, are there any common opinions on how this looks to compare with previous titles in the series?
Maybe if this is a success, Nintendo will look into making Musou style games for their other properties.

No Musou game has ever held my interest but I made that same decision the instant HW was revealed. It is just fanservice in the purest form. As a Zelda fan there's no way I'm not buying it.
I played Samurai Warriors 3 and Sengoku Basara, bought Warriors Orochi Wii U, so far I think I bought every Musou games on Nintendo home console beside Ken's Rage 2 because it is way worse than the first. Are the real Musou fans as excited about this as the rest of us? You're wrong.I mean, who do you want from Wind Waker? Deku Scrubs are in the game already and the bird people never really stood out. Only one I would want is that version of Ganondorf with puppet ganon powers.
You're wrong.
I want Link's Grandma. She'd kill with kindness
No way it's going to have 32 playable characters. You can't compare it with Dynasty Warriors; that series is way older than this one.

Has it been explained what the 2d Zelda parts are all about?
A separate game on its own, or does it tie into the main games progression?
gXplain, please get on it.

I imagine Nintendo is most concerned with character designs and image more than anything else.Nintendo has apparently told them to go crazy and do anything they want with the franchise. They've been like "a-are you sure, this is cool?" and Nintendo is like "hell yeah dudes, rock on."
