Hyrule Warriors: new trailer shown during NicoNico stream [Up: Direct feed]

I need this game now

I wonder who the last 3 character spots gonna be Skull Kid(unless he is a playable villain), Tingle, and Groose

I think today's stream shows that Agatha was added to increase the game's Moe contingent.

I'll give you linebeck though, I always forget about him. But man, why do people want the king of red lions? He's the god damn boat and he doesn't do anything but lose. Same with Makar. I'd like a Tetra outfit for Zelda, but I don't need her being completely seperate, I doubt she'd play much differently than rapier Zelda anyway.

Well still need Groose, We still need Tingle, we still need one more person from OOT, but I think those will be the last 3 heroes revealed. And then it's all villains, starting with the 3 we know and then TWIN-MOTHERFUCKING-ROVA!

No, but you gotta remember, that first game had like, 17 character total. They did a bad job with it.

The thing is, at least with this game, all of the original characters could be easily replaced by existing characters.

Lana with book -> Nayru
Lana with deku stick -> Saria
Wizzro -> Carock (or the poe collector from OoT)
Valga -> Onox
Cia -> Any villain in the series.

I'm sure the gameplay will be at least as good as DW8, but man do I find the roster disappointing.

If you can't play as the villains (and that's a big if), my bet would be that Nintendo fucked up and didn't allow it.

Nintendo has apparently told them to go crazy and do anything they want with the franchise. They've been like "a-are you sure, this is cool?" and Nintendo is like "hell yeah dudes, rock on."

I gotta say, I for one would have traded all the alternate movesets for unique characters using those weapons. Link with the Fire Rod would have been so much more hype as Maple or even Sahasrahla, for instance.

I've mentioned before that a really easy way to pad out the roster and make a lot of people happy would be to clone some movesets. Lana's forest wand thing could be cloned over for Saria, Zelda's Wind Waker could be cloned over for Toon Link and/or Medli, etc. etc...

At least 3 slots left, if vilains are playable then it'll be Zant/Ghirahim and Ganondorf.
Or the character selection screen will expand again.

Did anyone catch a screenshot of niconico feed while the people were playing with the musical chest?
Better, did anyone catch the entiere feed and put it on youtube?

Real talk, The character select screen they're showing is probably heroes only. In the final game, they'll probably have a button you press and all of those flip over and have the playable villians.

So we're looking at 13 heroes and 13 villains...less than I'd hoped but...I guess.

Keep in mind, we haven't seen sub bosses for villains yet either, or the inevitable scenario when Heroes have to fight Heroes.

26 playable characters is way more than I believe the first game will have. I think we're getting sub-16 playable characters. Will be a really pleasant surprise if more, but if we only get 13 then that wouldn't surprise me at all.

at the end of the day, this is STILL just a musou game.

And at the end of the day, it's still going to be seriously fun to play.

Musou game or not, if they play their cards as well as they have been so far this game should be filled to the bursting with LoZ fanservice and, as a result, should make a lot of people very happy. Having a really big character roster would be a signficiant part of that, though, at least for me.

Wind Waker reps could easily include Tetra, King Hyrule, Medli (my personal most wanted character), Makar, and maybe even Beedle. Plus Wind Waker's two sequels have a handful of memorable characters that are practically mandatory to include, the top picks being Linebeck (Phantom Hourglass) and Byrne (Spirit Tracks).

32 characters wouldn't be terrible, but considering the sheer number of characters that Dynasty Warrior games usually come equipped with, as well as the sheer number of notable characters present in the Zelda series...

I guess, to me, what it comes down to is this: if there wasn't going to be a Really Really Big roster, they shouldn't have included OCs and minor characters like Agitha.

No way it's going to have 32 playable characters. You can't compare it with Dynasty Warriors; that series is way older than this one.

Beedle would be an awesome playable character. You could so so many unique things with his moveset.

Were there original characters in the One Piece and Gundam musou games? If not, then I don;t see why they felt the need to add them to this game, especially when we have Zelda characters that could take their place.

Nope, but Zelda is different from One Piece. Every Zelda game has unique characters, so why not this one too?

No, but you gotta remember, that first game had like, 17 character total. They did a bad job with it.

Pirate Warriors 1 had a mere 13 playable characters. PW2 doubled that amount and redid most of the old ones.

Like I said, if this game doesn't let you play as the villains, someone over at Bamco is fucking up. It's super wasteful to create movesets for enemies captains and then not use those movesets for playable characters. Nothing we've seen from any of the 6 revealed enemy characters seems so crazy that they couldn't be player controlled.

Making movesets for an NPC and making movesets for a playable character are two very different things though.

If you can't play as the villains (and that's a big if), my bet would be that Nintendo fucked up and didn't allow it.

No way, Nintendo are pretty much just giving them free hands.

I was so bewildered and concerned when this game first got announced, but now I'm getting really excited for it.

Hope it sells gangbusters and becomes a regular series, and we get fire emblem warriors someday.

lol What if she's some Zelda fan that gets sucked into Hyrule? I know some people will hate the concept but for a game so full of fan service, I think it would be hilarious.

The last time that happened it was an okay game that Nintendo also declared noncanon.

Ok, I know I might regret this but I made the decision to buy this game.

I hope the soundtrack is a bunch of arranged Zelda songs - that and OoT assets in HD will make it worth it. Even if I can't see the gameplay holding my interest for very long.

No Musou game has ever held my interest but I made that same decision the instant HW was revealed. It is just fanservice in the purest form. As a Zelda fan there's no way I'm not buying it.

Well, Bamco isn't involved with this game, but I see your point. :)

Anyway, the worst I can foresee is that they're all free-mode characters and don't have a separate story of their own. But so long as they're playable in Challenge Mode, I wouldn't really care.

Are the real Musou fans as excited about this as the rest of us? I've only played a handful of Musou-style games, but this is the only time I've really been impressed by one. I feel like the series wouldn't have the stigma attached to it if it had adopted these adventure elements, items, and improved miniboss fights earlier on.

The worst I could foresee would be DLC.

But I speculate it will just be freemode. Anything that got a title in that trailer is probably playable, except for bosses (though I don't recall if they got titles).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the Musou series sometimes introduced characters as NPC but made them playable in the next expansion? I seem to recall that happening with Masanori in Samurai Warriors 3, but I don't think he had a unique moveset at first.

There's a few things to consider there.

1) Most Musou fans are on Sony systems. This game isn't going to move them to the Wii U. It might pry a few off, but I think most Musou fans are satiated this year by Sengoku Musou coming out this fall, plus (yet another) iteration of Warriors Orochi 3.

2) By and large, the first game in a licensed Musou spin-off is usually pretty barebones. Not enough modes, some half-baked ideas, etc. Not that this will necessarily be the case for Hyrule Warriors, but fans of the genre have probably been burned enough on the first games of each new spinoff to be wary and wait for the second one.

Given the above two issues, I think a lot of fans might just wait and see and hope it drops in price if it's good. It's not like you can wait for reviews on Musou games, aside from Jim Sterling's, they're all mostly hastily-written copies of each other.

I should clarify that I'm not asking that in a "will this be successful as a business venture" perspective, but a "is this as good as good as I think it is or am I just unfamiliar" one. Putting fanservice aside, are there any common opinions on how this looks to compare with previous titles in the series?

I can say personally, I didn't see a combo meter in today's footage and that makes me sort of unhappy.

Maybe if this is a success, Nintendo will look into making Musou style games for their other properties.

Not a Nintendo property (yet!) but a Mega Man Warriors would be so damn hype. There's a shit ton of variety with the Robot Masters and the main heroes.

I don't actually play that much Dynasty Warriors simply because I am not that much of a fan of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, so the interpretations of those characters don't do much for me (that godly soundtrack though). I play all the Samurai Warrior games though cause I love that time period, and I prefer those characters as well. I also play all the Warrior orochi games.

I don't consider myself a huge zelda fan, but I liked it enough to make this the first spin-off musou game I will game that is not Orochi/Samurai.

So I am excited notheless.

Has it been explained what the 2d Zelda parts are all about?

A separate game on its own, or does it tie into the main games progression?

gXplain, please get on it.

The same. This is not a game to please the Musou fans but the Zelda fans.

I played Samurai Warriors 3 and Sengoku Basara, bought Warriors Orochi Wii U, so far I think I bought every Musou games on Nintendo home console beside Ken's Rage 2 because it is way worse than the first.
Oh and I loved my time with Samurai Warriors 3 (Murasame Castle FTW) and it's considered to be a pretty bad game I heard? At least in the "Zelda Musou is coming, I'm interested in other games" thread by Neiteio.

Obviously I'm excited for Hyrule Warriors and I alread know what I'll get as I'm not a Musou newbie, so I'll love the new features :)

I mean, who do you want from Wind Waker? Deku Scrubs are in the game already and the bird people never really stood out. Only one I would want is that version of Ganondorf with puppet ganon powers.
You're wrong.

I want Link's Grandma. She'd kill with kindness

No way it's going to have 32 playable characters. You can't compare it with Dynasty Warriors; that series is way older than this one.

While that's true, worth bearing in mind that the very first Dynasty Warriors (By which I mean Dynasty Warriors 2, because DW1 is a wildly different game) still had a pretty whopping 28 characters.

It appears to be a challenge mode. You unlock portions of the map and complete the challenges listed in HW maps. I think you earn items like candles and bombs from them. You can use candles and bombs to search the Zelda 1 map for hidden things.

Ok seriously, at the beginning i didnt care 1 second about that game since im not a DW fan. But now, this is a day 1 purchase for me. If a special edition of some sort is coming out, im running booking it.

This will blow everything. In fact, i got my ps4, and i honestly think i wont be using it a lot with all the release Nintendo will take all my time. Im even considering selling my ps4... ( but will regret it the day Bloodborne will come out but... )

Whoever's doing the OT, the title should be

Hyrule Warriors |OT| "The enemies don't attack!" "So put it on Hard."

Just cut that off right at the head.

Please, do this. Or at least make this the thread tittle for a couple of weeks and then switch for "A link between girls" or whatever everyone choose last thread

Hell no! Bad fanfiction of that scenario is a dime a dozen. They shouldn't add fuel to the fire.

I imagine Nintendo is most concerned with character designs and image more than anything else.
