I’m a Gaffinamine addict: Share your experience

The truth is, we're all PR tools being controlled via wireless electro-stimuli, responding back and forth in the debate of good vs bad, brand vs brand, time vs space, and utilizing the latest in spreadsheet mainframe technology to bring up points to the front of our arguments, fact-checking be damned.

Actually, I've been where you're at, OP, where I end up having more GAF-time than I do for games, but this is more-so the result of being occupied with game development and film production wherein time or energy for gaming is much smaller than I'd like, so I visit here to keep up my consumption of gaming news, GAF culture, and the awesome debates that can happen among the occasionally bereft attempts at hating on one thing or another (or each other).

This place is definitely addictive, in some senses, but also a lot more mentally adept at digesting many of the issues and announcements that spawn in the industry. It is not completely free of the ignorance and hate that encumber the masses, but is much more appropriately moderated and full of many passionate gamers, both consumer and industry based. It has been a pleasure to partake in so many of the topics on here, as well as observe some of the meltdowns and Bish takedowns.

I am happy that this forum exists, and will continue to take part in it's momentous existence.

Indeed!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. The only thing is, I rarely find myself posting. I just lurk around for hours a day that I could be using to at least discuss games.

Used to post on the Dtoid forums and noticed the source was pretty much always a GAF thread so I joined. Then a few years ago Dtoid had a major staff overturn and the site just lost its appeal to me, the new staff just weren't as unique or interesting personalities so I stopped lurking here and started posting regularly here.

It's funny how most of us probably would argue with each other to the point where if we could, we'd choke each other. The hidden anguish and hatred for each other is a deep passion we all share and passive aggressively demonstrate each and everyday.

Yet here we are, on the forum everyday.

I spent way too much time on GAF mobile today browsing through all the threads and comments. I just need to start consistently posting as much as I'm reading! It's very addictive to keep checking for new threads and even before I was accepted here I would rarely go on any other gaming related site, because everything is here. I love the off-topic community as well and it's great for when I wake up in the middle of the night. Assists my insomnia. Thank you, GAF.

One day GAF will go down for a few hours and you just won't know what to do with yourself. F5, F5, F5.
That's when you know you're at the point of no return.

Been here for over a year. Think to myself every day how much time I spend on here and how little gaming I actually do in comparison. I think I just find the industry more fascinating than the majority of games themselves. Oh well. I enjoy this community so that's all that matters.

Woah.

I think the first time I really got in touch with neogaf was when the first gta 5 trailer launched. The thread here gathered infos and rumors as usual. Much more than any other site.

Applied for a membership last November. Absolutely love it. Awesome forum.

And yes, I spend a lot of time here.

Got to say, I'm pretty addicted, too. Free time at home? Gaf. Free time in work? Gaf.

First thing I do in the morning? Turn my alarm off on my phone, then use it to browse gaf until I have to get up and get ready to go (have literaly just done this as it's 7am here).

i was approved the next week, since that day i became addict to gaffinamine just like you
this was me before the gaf shots

just wanting moar GAF:(

GAF can be a health hazard, but it's worth it, any good forum is worth it. You can learn so many things, even by chance. A users avatar or a random thread can lead you to something you never knew existed or had long forgotten. It's a good expression of the power of the internet.

EDIT: And all those gifs.

I wasn't even a "new-age" gamer whatsoever when I found out about GAF. The only systems other than my iPhone I played were n64 and SNES, and the IOS gaming thread is what brought me here. Now I have PS + and somewhat regularly play my ps3, a 3DS, a Wii U, and I just got a Vita yesterday.

GAF is good. GAF is home.

I too probably read GAF more than I game, much of it Off Topic.

Get out while you still can.

It's too late for me! I'm still fairly new here and already full member cause I talk too much.
Plus I had been lurking for over a year and pretty much made GAF one of my main sources for news because I lost trust in everything else.

OP, if you want us to really start taking you seriously you need to reduce your play time to zero. Browsing GAF and playing video games is like drinking while driving, not fun at all.

So around 12 months ago, I remember watching this documentary on Gametrailers about Neogaf. At that time I said: “Neogaf? Whats that?” Did a quick search and found that it was actually a forum. I applied for a membership and after 3 months I was admitted. Eight months after, I’m addicted to it. Now that Gamescom 2014 is running, the time I spend browsing threads is unbelievable high. I love it! I can almost say I spend more time Gaffing (aka reading, writing and thinking) than actually playing video games. So weird uh? I’m sure I’m not the only one here and I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Thank you ElTorro. You truly are a .GIFted Gaffer:

I think I'm beginning to get the bug - heard about through Edge magazine (it actually mentioned Aquamarine by name) and decided to join. Took 3 months where I lurked and then got accepted. I'm gradually starting to post, feeling my way and trying to make sure I don't get banned whilst a Junior and I love it. When things 'kick off' like the Rise of the Tomb Raider shenanigans, there's nowhere better to be!

I had the story in reverse, I had always heard about GAF and how mysterious and awesome it was.
I tried to apply a couple times but never got in, which was a shame.
but I decided to try again this year as I thought what the heck, so I joined and to my surprise when I came into work one day I got an email saying I had been accepted it felt like this

So now I was a member and it was round about the time of the Destiny Alpha,
I had a few spare codes so posted and since then I have been very addicted and love speaking about all sorts,
I just love gaming and having a civilized (most of the time) place to post my views.

I then watched the Neogaf documentary on game trailers and really enjoyed all of it,
I just found it all so interesting how it was such a tight community,
it really was a great somewhat introduction to the community and how it was.
I then had the solid understanding that Cliffy disliked gaf and we disliked him which is fair enough, as his comments were really snarky.

So here I am, nearly 3 months in and over 1,700 posts.
I am addicted very much and spend a lot of my work time with a couple tabs open
and when those sweet sweet events come up or new information I will always

Thanks for letting me chill here and chat with me about games, and replying to my sometimes ridiculous posts.
You're all awesome and like my family already!

Some ppl request a PERMAban just to get out (shinobi)... but then they still come back !!!!

THE HUMANITY !! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP.
