I’m concerned with the eShop

I love my Nintendo Switch. It's a great console but something has been bothering me lately...

The eShop seems to be littered with too many indie games and too many shovelware games. It's becoming tiresome just to browse and find "real" games.

Nintendo please fix this! It seems their releases have slowed as of late on the platform.

I don't have a switch (yet).

Do they have any old school games on there. Like NES, SNES...maybe even some game cube stuff?

Indies and shovelware games are both real game.

I'd rather have a sea of titles than no titles.

Not making a dig at Xbox fans, but Xbox got shit on this gen for a library, and I think they might agree with the above.

Slowed? Do you mean their first party titles? I can understand that; they've got some big games in the chamber. Seems like they went with a "Blast them out with launch titles, fill in with sprinkles, give them big titles for the holidays."
Other companies/platforms operate this way. Sony handled it this way until they suddenly got more sheepish than Ninty.

It's not really a problem with these games existing, it's a problem of discoverability. The eShop is pretty basic when it comes to filtering and sorting lists. OP is basically saying he's having a hard time wading through all the stuff that's there to find the stuff he wants to purchase / play.

The eShop has over 1,000 games now. The Playstation Store by contrast has nearly 4,000 games but doesn't really have the same problems despite having way more shovelware and indie stuff available.

Yeah.
Checking out both what's new and specially whats on sale every week is a pain because you have to look for the "real" games in a list that's mostly shovelware and stuff that looks like paid ports of F2P mobile games.

They definitely need to organise things better

Nope.
There's just a few NES games that are tied to the online subscription service and can't be bought on their own

Can you sort by price descending? If you do, does it show the latest "full price" games first?

That's true of basically any online shopping you do though. You can sort by category but then it's just endessly scrolling down the page if you don't specifically know what you want. It's easy enough to just go to game website.. or read this forum.. and then go look at the games you read about.

The eShop on Switch is an indie dumping ground. It's not at all enjoyable to browse because there's so much crap to sift through. Unless I know the exact game I'm looking for, I don't even bother looking.

On the plus side, it's an impulse killer. Not looking means a lack of impulse to spend money on games there.

It's a disaster. When the system launched I thought it was placeholder until they came up with a real storefront. I'm surprised that they've dropped the ball so completely on it when the Wii U's shop was so good. (And the biggest crime of all, no dank shopping music)

I feel like with all the other resources that look at digital stores or do reviews and roundups this is not that big of an issue.

Digital stores are never that great.

Couldn't agree more. Real games need to be prioritized on eShop, XBL, Steam, etc. Nothing kills the mood faster than loading up a store and getting blasted with countless indie/shovelware trash.

Do people really use the eShop itself looking to make potential purchases? 0o

Usually you hear about a game somewhere and you look up the game online and if that looks interesting enough then you look it up on the eShop. >.>

I just use the website. Its super easy. Tons of filters for sales, price ranges, release date, genre. Its honestly better than PSN's website. Has a large featured list as well showing the highlights. Then buy on the website and it sends it over to the switch. Painless.

If you wanna see the endgame of this, look at Steam. Difference is that Nintendo curate their store whereas Valve don't give a shit.

I agree with Punished Miku Punished Miku . Just had a look at the website and it is much better for navigating the eShop.

Have found the same thing browsing their current offers section. There seems to be very little order to them outside of the top 20 titles.

Yep, see above. Current offers is basically the only thing I browse on the eShop.

I would agree Nintendo should present the games better on the console version eShop. It's a total mess and even finding new releases requires sorting through endless garbage.

I learn about cool games elsewhere, then find them on the eShop and put them in my wishlist. That's the only way to keep track of sales and such, as there's just too much junk on there that I'm not interested in. Not sure what they could do about it though.
