I almost never take my portable devices outside

This is why phone gaming is so great. You always have it with you.

Yup. MHP2G for iOS is the best thing that happened to me in regards of mobile gaming.
I can have a non dumbed down version of my favorite game always with me and play it without additional hardware and without other people looking down at me as some childish nerd (atleast here in Germany mobile gaming is accepted but dare you if you happen to use your 3DS on the train as somebody who is older than ten years - that's atleast my experience :( ).

Except for shipping and Gamescom, my 3DS and Vita have never left our house lol.

I don't even really use mine at home anymore. I play my Vita so rarely that every time I go to turn it on I find that the battery has died. By the it charges again I have lost the desire to play it, thus reseting the cycle anew.

Ha ha ha. I sometimes feel the same way. I think the issue is that you need to power OFF the Vita for the battery to last.

I'm a married man with 2 daughters and limited TVs... Portables are a god send!

Yes, I love my 3DS XL and DSi XL. I need to give my Vita more love.

I usually just play them inside the house or if I go away to my in-laws house or to some hotel. Recently I tried to play them in the car while my wife was driving and it just wasn't practical for me. Too many bumps in the roads screws me up playing Rusty Real Deal Baseball or Picross e4. Plus, the sunlight doesn't help.

Too much for me to do on my iPhone. Even work when I'm on the bus so I don't see myself needing a handheld gaming system ever again.

PSP was the last one I had during the flip phone era. It appealed to me since I can watch movies and listen to music on the go.

Same here. Pretty much only leave the house for out of town trips.

What I am "upset" about is that we probably wont see another handheld Chains of Olympus, Jeanne d'Arc, GTA Stories, Ace Combat, Legend of Heroes, Patapon, Tearaway, Dragons Crown, Muramasa, Gravity Rush etc. and instead we'll get dumbed down games like new Crazy Taxi for iOS with rare exceptions like Year Walk or Monument Valley.

It's almost definite that Vita is Sony's last handheld effort. After that I'm left with smartphones (never was fan of Nintendo handhelds). And buying a smartphone for gaming is probably the worst of my decisions in last five years.

That's why I cant just accept what we're getting and enjoy it, when I see that end of handheld as we know it from 2004 is coming to an end. But I guess, that's the only thing we can do now, sigh...
Even assuming the entire handheld market collapses as you predict, there's enough quality stuff released - even just after 2004 - to last me practically a lifetime. Maybe just drop the doom 'n gloom and have fun while you can.

What are they going to do, smack the 3DS out of your hands? Unless you're relying on your commute as a way to pull (lol), I can't imagine why you would give a shit. I play the (much better than MHP2G iOS) MH3U on the train and I will be playing MH4U when it comes out, because I couldn't care less about what some twat thinks of me playing a handheld in public. Their opinion could not mean less to me.

When I was a student and had idle times waiting for public transportation or between classes (I had a lot of early afternoon classes followed by night classes) I would game on my PSP/DS all the time.

Barely use my 3DS, though, except for gaming while watching hockey on TV. :p

Yeah, backlit handhelds are hard to watch with direct sunlight.

Unlike this beauty:

The Game Boy Advance looked best in sunshine. I was blown away again by F-Zero that summer.
