I am addicted to Spelunky!

I fuuuuuucking suck at this game, but I'm pretty addicted to it. Can't get past the first few levels of the jungle, but I love just screwing around, trying to steal from the shop keepers, etc.

Is this game going to be ported to the new systems? I feel like Sony would have at least tried to get it on the PS4. 360 is the only way I can play it, and I just want the daily challenges :(

...and to use the DS4.

Tried getting the Speedlunky achievement.

Is it just me or does the game get harder the faster you blow through stages? I've had constant dark levels messing up my runs, crocmen show up everywhere, the most savage configurations of traps, huge volumes of enemies.

Just fell short of the goal, got 8 minutes 7 seconds.

OMG! That's literally the game's one and only flaw in my eyes! This needs to come to the PSN version. Hopeful it will since we got the daily, too. Not sure why this simple update wouldn't come to all the versions.

I hope so. The opaque hud was a very bad idea, downgrade from Spelunky Classic.

Yep, that's the whole thing. Ya can't just blow through Spelunky. You'll get spanked.

No, I mean the stage hazards are much more numerous compared to runs where I take my time. I once got two dark stages in one run, which has never happened to me in my 300+ proper runs. Crocmen were also quite rare in my normal runs, but ever since I started running through quickly they are everywhere. I once saw about 5 crushing traps in one screen, intent on ending my speedrun.

It's not that the game is harder because I have less equipment, the game is literally throwing more dangers and hazards and stage feelings than my normal runs.

Maybe I'm just going crazy.

Can't even get past 1-3, does anybody have any advice? I've skimmed through only a bit of this thread

I love, love, love this game. Even my wife loves playing this and she doesn't play games at all.

Is the Xbox One controller working natively with PC yet? I only have one 360 controller and I want a second one so my wife and I can play co-op.

Spelunky's getting an update with bug fixes an an option for a new HUD:

One thing that isn't visible on that image is the fact that there's now a little indicator as to whether you're playing the daily challenge too. It's a map icon next to the stage's.

If you were getting dark levels going for speedlunky, you're doing it wrong. If you finish a level faster than 20 seconds (or something like that, maybe 22?), you're guaranteed not to get a dark level.

Finally got my first 1 million dollar run on todays Daily Challenge, almost cracked the front page leaderboard (currently ranked 11 ).
The run started really slow, was at 5k after the Mines(was purchasing stuff at the shop), missed the Ankh, was at 100k after the Jungle. But then the Mothership went well and got the Plasma Cannon, then I ghosted all the gems in the Temple like a boss..

Ghosting just seems so so boring. I have never actually done it, but it just seems to be a lame way for high scores to happen. Not that it doesn't take skill, but it just seems so blah.

Sometimes the level will generate a steep narrow chasm all the way at the middle bottom there is a pickaxe hidden in the rocks.

If there is one of these snake pits in the level it's signalled by the 'i hate snakes' text at the beginning of the level.

I guess you've got to learn how to deal with each danger until you're confident. It took me a long time to get used to fallen spiders as they seemed unpredictable, but they aren't really.

Sorry, I somehow missed the speedrun part of your post. Weird that you'd be getting more hazards.

Finally made it to the ice world, with like 4 hearts, a cape and like $30k in gold, thinking I'm hot shit...only to get smacked by the first yeti I see, which launches me down into an area with like 3 more yeti and I'm dead in about 7 seconds. This fucking game.

The ice world will look so easy later on lol.

But keep learning from your mistakes. It's the essence of spelunky

Ghosting is fairly boring, truth to be told. It requires some advanced planning and resource-juggling if you're lacking the Climbing Gloves or a jetpack, but otherwise there's not much to it if you have the necessary mobility for the preferred amount of safety.

Ideally I'd like the devs to expand upon the core idea behind it so that it turns into a bigger risk-reward challenge for experienced players. Have it go faster the longer it's out on the field, have there be a way to manually summon it (
outside of destroying three altars for Olmec and Yama ghosting
) with additional ghost buffs to cut down on idle time in small stages; anything to make it more engaging from a gameplay standpoint compared to the way it acts now.

FYI, you can't whip yetis. Jumping on them is best.

Can someone tell me what ghosting is?

Go through a level and don't collect any of the large, loose gems (not stuck in rocks). Whip them around to get them in convenient spots, then wait for the ghost. Any of these gems that the ghost touches she turns into diamonds (worth $5000). So you arduously lead her over to the gems, then head to a corner of the level, and finally rush back to collect the diamonds.

Here's a video of the world's greatest Spelunky player accomplishing his most epic feat. You'll see him ghostrunning most of the early levels.

Started playing Spelunky for the first time this weekend, opened up all shortcuts and just beat the boss after about 14 hours play time. Next challenge is to complete a run from start to end. Can't believe I waited so long to experience the greatness of Spelunky - I am addicted, now back to Spelunky.

What's the best way to get a key down to the ice exit for the temple shortcut? That's the only way I'm going to beat Olmec, whom I saw for the first time today.

When I managed to pull it off I just concentrated on that alone and just tried to carefully head straight for the exit on each stage, ignoring other items and treasure.

It might be impatience, but it took me dozens of restarts to finally get outta the mines.

I just have the worst luck. And I suck soooo much at this game. But the puppy...

This little guy (or girl) keeps me going. I must rescue the derp. Rescue the derp, save the world.

Anyway, serious question: I've reached the end of the mines, gave the Tunnel afro/one-eyed guy his bomb, yet the shortcut didn't appear when I died and went back to the very beginning. Did I just not do good enough for the guy to do his thing?

Don't whip the yeti!

Tunnel shortcut man usually requires multiple items to unlock it. So he'll likely ask for a few ropes next time.

You have to do this multiple times until he finishes making the tunnel, 3 times all up for each tunnel - I think next time he asks for ropes if I remember correctly

Bought this a day or so ago. I've been watching "Spelunkin' with Scoops" at Giantbomb for the last few weeks, and have watched a fair few of BananasaurusRex's videos, all of which led to needing to play this game myself (similar to Volgarr and the recent Breaking Brad series...)

The Daily Challenge is a thing of beauty.

Made it to Olmec on a single run without using shortcuts - really thought I was going to get the Ironman achievement but I lost my cool and made some stupid mistakes. So close....

Just make sure you've got tons of bombs. If you have still have at least 20 sticky bombs by the time you reach him, you shouldn't even have to see his ugly face at all.

I think you really only need like 9 if you use them correctly.

Man, I'm out of practice. Had a couple good dailys since I started playing the PSN version again but I've also died on the mines a ton lol. My daily average on PC was over 600k and I'm at like 150k on PSN. I think it would be awesome if they implemented some variance in the daily challenges though. Like maybe a speed run challenge every once in awhile? Waiting around for the ghost is the only way to put up big numbers and it gets incredibly tedious.

Think you only need 6 bombs if you know the trick for utmost efficiency, but 10 max will help you construct a fine Olmec Hole™.

Even on PC you don't need to ghost that often though. I usually end up somewhere in between the top 25 and top 75 by just making it to Yama if the daily proved to be relatively difficult, during which I only focus on cracking some vaults open (for follow-up ghosting) rather than being overly fussy with every possible gem. Different story however if it's one of those dailies where it gives you every advantage you'd ever want.

Working on Ironman now after working on getting to the golden city, ghost running and shopkeeper killing for a while. Discovered that there was no Public Enemy(after wiping the black market etc) or Casanova trophy on the vita version, lol. :)

What a game!!!

If you know when the ghost is coming just by hearing how many times the music loops you've been playing this game for to long.

So great to see new people getting hooked on the game.

Also, I kind of hate you. Been playing for months and have only seen the temple once. It's on and off playtime, though. I have played about 350 games.

I've gotten to 3-1 twice now but whiffed it both times. Love this game though, had it on 360 when it first came out but it really grabbed me once I got it on Vita.

I like the idea of some daily challenge variety. Or at least change up how the ghost works, like have it destroy any gold or gem so the incentive is to get that stuff fast and get out of the level before the ghost shows up.

I was this close to throwing my Vita against the wall after yesterday's daily.
I had 80 bombs, the jet pack, plasma rifle and already 420k, but managed to kill myself by shooting a wall too close to my character with the plasma.
This fucking game...

wtf spelunky is on vita..... shit shit shit I think I'll finally get a vita then o_O

I'm getting fairly consistent at being able to reach the city of gold but those fucking tiki traps in the city are god damned invisible. I'm so cautious in there and died twice by very very carefully standing right next to one.

With the fucking jetpack and a shotgun as well both time fuuuuuck.

jetpack man, so rare.

This game is my favourite platformer of all time. sorry 2D mario you've been dethroned.

I think I remember the classic game once having a bug where a tiki trap would kill you after you'd gone through the exit. But it was rare to see them there while it's almost guaranteed in HD.

funny thing that sort of pisses me off

a half blown-up tiki trap will still kill you X|

I both hate and love it. I don't know. I'm in a bad position now though, basically having mastered the mine but for different reasons not unlocking the shortcut to the temple. So I'm getting a bit burned out playing through the temple over and over again. But I love the mechanics, and it looks fantastic on Vita! Is it just me or is it ugly on other platforms? From what I've seen on youtube anyway.
