• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

I am sick of PSN payment issues.

Glad I switched to PayPal I guess have never dealt with this.

When you get this error, you get it for Paypal also so that doesn't solve the problem. And after reading the horror stories about banned PSN accounts caused by Paypal chargebacks, I wouldn't really suggest using it as a preferred payment method.

I had the same problem last month. After using many CCs from 2009, suddenly my information wasn't valid on any of them. I went and copy/pasted my info from bank invoice to match the all caps glory written there. It still didn't work so I sent them an email and the answer was "Unfortunately it happens from time to time. Try again after a while." lol

Fortunately in our country we have an option to top up a PSN wallet with paysafe cards, so I went and grabbed one of those at the nearest gas station. That was the last time Sony has seen my CC information. Check if you can maybe use paysafe cards bacause it's probably the safest way of dealing with PSN besides the official PSN top up cards.

I've had the same problem since I removed my card due to security concerns and tried to add it again. Thankfully I can use Amazon download codes. Still annoying though.

Have the same problem if I try to buy something from the store on any platform except the console itself. Been this way for years. Ridiculous.

They have the absolute worst and most bonkers system in place both for purchasing and protecting your account information. It really is quite amazing.

On my birthday a few weeks ago, PSN suddenly decided to refuse my card, leading to a 48 hr lockout. I was super pleased to be phoning my bank then sony to sort it all out.

I sent some pithy tweets at the askplaystation twitter account too, but they just blanked me. #notproud

Whenever I talk with Sony on the phone, they always seem to know the issue, but the people at the help desk can't do anything, because lockouts when payments go wrong for whatever reason are "automatic."

In the end, I'm going to move completely to psn cards from Amazon, but it sucks that fifa online fraud, hacking, and Sony's batshit security system has lead to this and to the issues OP and many of us have had. It's also clear that paying the exact amount via credit card is preferable than buying cards that never quite cover the amount. Over time, the cents left over accrue Superman III style.

My payment has been working for the last few months on their system and I don't know if I changed anything to get it to work. It's the equivalent of a TV antenna that you do all sorts of things to in order to get the picture to show up, but you're not even sure if what you did helped.

It's a shitty payment system and I really wish they'd fix it once and for all. I honestly don't buy the "invalid zip code" defense some people give out because the zip code I've used on the payment info doesn't even have to get altered for it to not work at times.

After the headaches my 360 gave me, I do not put credit card information on game consoles. I just load money in using gift cards. Less convenient, but less headaches.

What fixed this for me was changing the credit card address to match exactly how it is on the credit card statement.

It's very finicky if you live in a building.

I had it said to the unit number in line 2 (1010) but the credit card company hyphenated it to 1010-545 Street name. When I changed it to that I never had problems again.

They must do a full address verification, which is an option for credit card issuers/retailers that very few use.

I believe either party can require it, and it probably makes sense if you are a retailer that sees a lot of fraud (PSN probably does).

Basically the options are No address verification, just the zip code, and full.

Heres my PSN purchase sob story.

So I have a UK PSN account becasue I lived in the Netherlands when I created it but when I tried to create an NL account it would default the language to Dutch, which as an Australian i'm not great at. If it was possible to change the language to English I couldn't find the option, the fact that I barely understand Dutch didn't help lol. So, UK account.

Buying stuff from the store with my Dutch CC worked fine even though the UK address it forced me to put in was clearly false.

So a few years pass and I get a job in Vancouver and move to Canada, I can't change the region associated with my account becasue....... There is no good reason actually, its ridiculous that this isn't possible in 2016.

95% of my Playstation gaming is on Vita so all my purchases are locked to my UK account. It pisses me off a bit to have to pay a premium to buy from the UK store but whatever, I keep using my Dutch CC to buy shit.

Then my Dutch CC expires and PSN won't accept the replacement, I'm assuming becasue the address for the card doesn't match the imaginary UK address (of course it doesn't tell me why) Even though this wasn't a problem on the old card.

So desperate to buy XCOM for my Vita I create a Paypal account (a big deal for me becasue I loathe Paypal). Oh but of course PSN wont accept my Paypal account either, again no reason offered, my guess is becasue its a Canadian Paypal account.

So finally I purchase a 25 pounds of credit for the PSN UK store from G2A with my Canadian credit card, this works no problem and I finally get my sweet XCOM. the better part of 2 hours later.

Its absolutely ridiculous, its like they don't even want my money.

I had this happen to me just before The Division launched, my CC has been on PSN for fucking ever and never had issues and then out of nowhere started giving me this crap, I tried 3 cards and even paypal with the same bullshit. I called my bank they saw Sony was putting through multiple $0.00 charges, but nothing else... called Sony and they gave me the whole "it's the banks fault shit" so now after a decade of using my credit cards I get stuck buying PSN cards physically since Amazon Canada mails the bloody cards rather than emailing codes /facepalm.

There are topics on the Sony forums going back years for this problem, no matter what stupidity I try it just won't take my payment methods anymore.

Pisses me off so much because I have been ALL digital for years too, every other bloody vendor has no problem letting me pay them except these stupid fuckers...

I always get invalid when I use my CC on the SEN website. The only way I can get it to accept it is by doing it on your ps4, so add you CC through there and it should work.

I've started using PSN cards to be on the safe side.

Add me to this list. My payment options have worked just fine since November 2006. Yesterday it all went stupid when I tried to pre-order Ratchet.

Cards went invalid. PayPal went invalid.

I'm just going to remove these for now and hope it gets sorted out in the future. I was using a PlayStation Credt Card to earn points on purchases. Having to use Amazon now for codes messes that up. It's a bummer.

And, yet again, my credit card is suddenly "invalid" according to psn and my Ratchet preorder was cancelled. It's pretty disgraceful the way this is not being addressed by Sony #4theplayers. I've tweeted at the useless @askplaystation for an address to complain to, likely to no avail.

How can psn be the only place we all get this problem? Are they doing something weird with our accounts?

I was unaware that this happens all the time to other people.

Just now I was trying to buy DS3 and it gave me the error message telling me my info was invalid. I was freaking out for like 2 hours trying to find out if my card information was stolen.

I'm glad that my situation is not unique, but not happy that it's a common problem.
