I can't beat games anymore without a walkthrough :(

It happens to me with point and click adventures, or game like Zelda, that's why i don't play Zelda and i just play easier adventures, more focused on story and choices like Life is Strange.
But thankfully i have no problem with all the other games yet, actually AAA games are getting even too easy and i start them straight on Hard difficulty, besides a few exception like The Witcher 3, normal was already enough for that.

Modern games don't need walkthroughs unless you are looking for collectibles. In that case, I understand if you really need to collect things for whatever reason. Games of old, like old school PC RPGs could be obtuse in an awesome don't hold your hand sort of way so I could see he need for tips and hints. But today's design is so stripped down that I don't know why a guide would ever be needed. I am struggling to think of any modern games outside of the Souls franchise that would help. Those games have so much unexplained material, but then you wind up spoiling the experience with said guide.

I will be 35 years old this year and never relied on a walkthrough beyond a quick peak at GameFAQs for help. And even then, that was back on the PS2 era. But I do understand being older and having kids and a wife and a job and having little time to be frustrated. Hell, I would kill to be stuck even a moment with today's games. Then it would possibly mean they were not being designed for the lowest common denominator in mind.

I generally don't use guides but I used one for the collectibles in Bloodborne and I'm not averse to jumping on the internet if I get stuck on where to go / what to do to progress. I generally won't look up guides for boss strategies etc, just so that I can get past puzzles and stuff that are stumping me.

Definitely. Growing up having less time and more options on how to spend your time really gives me no other choice unless I want to hate myself.

I don't use one often, but if I get stuck and stop having fun I will look it up for sure.

Really, there's nothing wrong with it. Life is short.

Since I stopped worrying about missing stuff in games I've been able to 'finish' lots of games without a guide :) Most of time the the fun is in figuring out the 'how' but when you get stuck after exploring all the options you can think of it's not longer fun and in those cases I will look up a guide. And I feel absolutely no shame in looking up free guides on the internet for those games that are intentionally obtuse, where they seemed designed to sell guides -_- (looking at you Final Fantasy and Pokemon...!)

Then there are games I know I will absolutely want to replay. I'll play those without using a guide first time through and second time through with a guide every step of the way so I'll get every little bit of story, items, etc :3
