I don't get the Criterion love.

I haven't played other Criterion games, but I loved Burnout Paradise. I haven't gone online with it though.

Most PS3 owners should have Burnout Paradise because it was a PS Plus game on the month after the PSN hacking, when Sony gave everyone free Plus. At least in Europe this is the case.

Takedown was great but some might like the somewhat more hardcore presentation of Burnout 2.

On of the best part of Criterion games is their soundtrack though. I would shred the streets of MW in a fully tuned GTR, with Rudimental pumping through the speakers. Never got old.

terrible racing physics even for an aracady game, i loved paradise at the time, but it doesnt hold up,

omg the soundtracks? really? all i remember is paradise's and it was horrible, it got to where id mute the tv on boot cause i didnt wanna hear GNR for the eight millionth time

No. I actually didnt even bother buying the online pass (or whatever its called). Bought it used and was blown away.

Its fun with other players but Hot Pursuit (just like Burnout 3 in the past) completely hooked me with its single player campaign. Its full of cars and upgrades to unlock, and there are almost always completely different mission types to choose from at any given time.
Its challenging, its fun to control and use tactics, and I feel like a total badass while doing it because their stuff has style.
I think the game deserves that you give it another shot :P

And you don't give a fuck for track design. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIdeW1ZgPwY

I was never a racing game fan outside of mario kart (lol!). tried all the nascars, gran turismos, NFS etc. nothing clicked.

Until i rented a 360 game and someone had put burnout 3: takedown by mistake in the box. HOLY CANOODLES! This was it, this was my game. The speed, the crashing, the hidden paths, the crashing traffic, the online battles with cars. the music tracks. I had never experienced such a complete package like this before.

I didn't wait for the rental period to end, i actually went to gamestop and bought a new copy with cash. I enjoyed the ish of that game.

One of the pinnacles of the online experience was when i came across this burnout pro online. He single handedly destroyed my team with his car by himself.

He was so good, he would race ahead on purpose turn around and crash into me head first going backwards on the track. he was that damn good.

God damn Pacific Rift. Isn't its multiplayer killed off?

Evolution should remake this game for Ps4. The feel of 1080p and 60fps.

I still think Burnout 3 is the pinnacle of the serie. No one after that ever came close to that (Paradise could have been like that, but i never got over the lack of 2players mode)

Nah. Outside a few games, I didn't game much PS2 gen. Sacrilege, I know.

There's your problem. Go grab Burnout 3: Takedown. Go grab Burnout 3: Takedown. Go grab Burnout 3: Takedown.

Have you grabbed it yet?

You have? Great! Now play the awesome singleplayer that isn't ruined with Traffic Checking and the non-ruined Crash mode and enjoy!

Most Wanted has an awesome soundtrack imo.

It's not so much sacrilege as it is missing out on the high point of Criterion's portfolio. If you want to know why people love Criterion, play burnout 3, the end.

That said, personally I really enjoyed Burnout Paradise. Aside from the actual content of the game, it was probably the first game that I played on a console where the idea of "seamless, jump-in, jump-out multiplayer" really existed and worked. No lobbies, no waiting around, just press a button on your controller and you're online.

Burnout is one of those games where you love it or hate it.

I absolutely hate it. The controls feel like crap to me. They never feel responsive. It always feels "floaty" to me.

Paradise was a turd for me because of this and NFS: MW reboot is a POS as well for me. The game feels like Burnout: MW and I'm still pissed that there's no manual gear shifting in the game. I require manual gear shifting in all my arcade racers. Without it, the games don't feel right.

I don't play Paradise like a typical racing game. In fact, the only events I play and find enjoyable are the Road Rage events. Most of the time I just cruise around looking for the yellow gates and other collectibles. It's the game I play when I listen to podcasts. It's great.

But Criterion is a great developer, their best games were Burnout 3 : Takedown and the followup: Revenge. The recent Most Wanted was shit though, I agree.

Dude, take it from me, as a total Burnout nut - Paradise was a huge misstep for Criterion. Takedown and Revenge are where it's at; those games represent the peak of Burnout and demand to be played. Especially the former.

Paradise is the best arcade racer I've played this generation. Brilliant game, shame they didn't make a sequel.

The open world nature is so well done it makes the game whereas it breaks it in others(Forza Horizon).

The only good open world racer is Midnight Club II

And Burnout 3 is not as good as Burnout 2, and Burnout 2 is not as good as Outrun C2C (Xbox) or Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) or Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2)

Paradise is the only Burnout game I've played. I played for "0.7 hours" according to Steam. Open-world racers (or games in general) are not for me, personally :/

Burnout Paradise is the game that sold me on this generation. An open-world, almost menu-free playground for cars, where you could race, smash billboards or fences, look for superjumps, take down new cars, do stun runs and try to beat your friend's road rules. And when you went online, there was a healthy and active community to do races and challenges with.

NFS:HP was a step backward, menu driven races against cops and nothing that resembled a playground.

I would like to see criterion make a playground for fun cars again, instead of the official car racing enviroments of their last two games.

You can do Arcade Racers while still making the cars feel different. Midnight Club did it, PGR did it, Forza Horizon did it(semi-Arcadey at least), Driver: San Francisco did it.

NFS games now feel like the evolution of the Cruis'N games. Like yeah they were fun at the time but now they just feel like lackluster titles.

Also, it's more fun to crash cars in Driver: San Francisco
and telekinetic throw cars

Loved Burnout 3.
Burnout: Revenge was good.
Burnout: Paradise was amazing.
NFS: Hot Pursuit was okay.
NFS: Most Wanted was mediocre.

Not really a huge fan of their NFS games at all.

Paradise was great but the races were severely hurt by not being on closed tracks. they would hardly feel like races sometimes as you could go almost an entire race without seeing a single opponent(barring the start of course).

I was just playing Paradise again recently I think it holds up great, I do remember being frustrated with it at times at first since I would reach a race and did not have the right car so couldn't enter, best to just ignore it at that point don't worry about it and keep driving around you will find another race pretty quick.

Oh and it was only later I figured out how to not let it play that Guns and Roses song which was getting annoying.

Burnout 3 Takedown was the highlight of the series. Paradise was crap, why remove what was most fun about Burnout (crash events).

Open world racing is a waste of time.

I certainly prefer their circuit racers.

Open world can work, but I think it has been overdone recently.

So much truth. Your post is practically bursting at the seams with truthiness.

Love them since Redline Racer.

Started Paradise for the fourth time, was never a fan of open world, but since you can restart races it isnt a problem anymore.

Open world killed the races in Paradise. The game is still fun, but, as it has already been said, it pales in comparison with Takedown.

Midnight Club 2 had amazing races despite being open world, from what I remember. The bit of Paradise I played couldn't come close to Burnout 3/Revenge though.

Lov3 paradise...
Its a great game the 8nly problem was the restart option and that was patched.

I never understoood the "where to go " complain, the game give you plenty of hints.
