I don't know what's wrong with my Wii U

Hey GAF, I'm having problems with my Wii U and google is not helping me.

The story starts with me finally getting Pikmin 3 today. I planned on playing it with the wii remote as I've heard it's the best option but I found myself wasting around 15 minutes trying to sync the damn controllers with the console, and that's when I started to get worried. I've done everything I could think of; I unplugged the system, used multiple wii remotes, multiple sensor bars, changed batteries but nothing...

Then I took my camera out to see if the IR lights on the sensor bar were turning on when plugged to the system but nothing happened. The weird part is that when I plugged both sensor bars on the Wii both worked perfectly. Tried to search online for a similar situation but couldn't find anything (all of them are sensor bar problems and it seems my situation is a console one). I'm posting here before I contact Nintendo just in case I'm missing something and there a silly solution that I'm unaware of.

GAF? Why would the Wii U stop detecting fully functioning sensor bars?? I'm so bummed since I just got my copy today.

Any suggestions before contacting Nintendo, GAF?

Maybe it's Reggie punishing me for not using my Wii U since release date

Are you following instructions to sync the controllers? , pressing the sync buttons?

The sensor bar has nothing to do with wii remote sync

It's my understanding that, unlike the Wii, the Wii U doesn't have the sensor bar turned on all the time - only when Wii Remotes are synced. So that's it, I guess.

btw do you know that there's a sensor bar on the Gamepad itself? Yep.

Did you pressed both sync buttons? Console and controller?

Wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, I followed the instructions on screen and nothing. Both wii remotes won't sync and the sensor bar doesn't turn on while being connected with the wii u. I updated the system today, maybe it was that? Is that possible?

Update your system.

I updated it today, maybe it was that?

Yep, it doesn't sync. I wasn't aware you could sync the controllers without sensor bar, good to know. So does the sensor bar turn on when you turn on the wii u, even without using a wii remote? Mine doesn't :\

Hmm, then maybe it's the controllers that aren't working? Since they aren't synced, the sensor bar doesn't turn on? I guess I can check with a friend's wii remote. Thank you.

Also, there is? I didn't know that.

Iirc with the Wii U, the sensor bar won't turn on until a Wii remote is connected.

You are pressing the red sync button on the back of the remote correct OP? And your Wii is off?

Could you please describe precisely how you tried to sync them?

I used this lol

Edit: And this

Will check this out then, it may be the controllers then. Thank you guys, you may have saved me from sending my fully working Wii U to Nintendo and wasting weeks while waiting to receive it back.

Press menu on wiipad. Click controllers. Click sync controllers. Then press 1 and 2 on the Wiimote. Sync in less than 5 seconds.

I have MUCH more problems syncing my Wii and it's wiimotes...

I didn't want to make a whole new topic, but ever since I have bought my Wii U, I've had an issue where my TV keeps turning back on after I turn it off. It will keep on happening until I unplug the TV. It only happens if I have been using the Wii U before hand. I dunno what's going on. It happens if I use the gamepad or the TV remote. It has got to be something to do with the gamepad and the way it transmits IR signals to the TV, although it happens even if I block the IR transmitter. I just can't do anything to stop it from happening. Really annoying!

I have searched online for anything on this problem to no avail. Any help?

Sounds like your problem is with the TV. The Wii U only interacts with the TV through the IR blaster. If you are covering the IR, how could the Gamepad possibly still turn it on?

What's wong? Your Wii U thinks it's next gen, that's what's wrong! *insert drum sound "badum tish" followed by eye rolls* Right? Is this thing on??

Seriously though, if both controllers worked with your Wii, then I'd call tech support. I had a wii remote that stopped synching on me so I had to get another one.

Do you have TVii setup on the Wii U?

The WiiMotes need to have motion plus. Standard WiiMotes won't work.

Have you tried running in Wii mode (press B button on start up if you have the latest firmware revision) and try syncing from there.

Go onto "Wii Mode". This should make sure the Wii U is picking up the Wii motes easier

Once the Wii Menu is loaded. Press SYNC on the Console and Controller QUICKLY at the SAME TIME.

And that should help.

OPTIONAL: Can you connect your Wiimotes to say a phone or PC with Bluetooth? Just to make sure their working. (You said they Work with the original Wii?)

I should also mention the Wii U will pick any type of Wii Mote (Motion Plus or original)

Did you buy your wiimote as second hand or brand new?

Are you saying that you had the wiimotes working and synced with the console before you update Wii U?

I don't have cable, so I don't think I have set it up, although I have turned it once or twice to see what it's like.

Still happening. I'll have see what happens if I put tape over the IR transmitter next time.
