I don't think I'm excited for Dark Souls 3. Is something wrong with me?

Dark Souls 1 is arguably one of my favorite games ever. Dark Souls 2 was def a step down, but I played through almost all of it as a co-op game which was an interesting experience. And Bloodborne... I recognize it as a good game but most of it just didn't jive with me. The aesthetic was kinda bland, didn't care for the shieldless play style and I found it a lot harder.

So now I think I am just burnt out on the formula. How are you feeling on it? I haven't watched any gameplay footage, so did I happen to miss out on something that should make me excited?
 
Nah I'm in the same boat as you, I feel pretty burnt out. I know the game will be good but I just don't really have the drive or excitement to play it.

I know I was much more excited for BB than I was DSIII because at first glance it seemed a much more fresh iteration of the souls formula.
 
I'm right there with you. I feel like the aura of it all is gone. Demon's Souls came out at a time when games were getting ridiculously easy and it basically turned the corner for a lot of games stepping up the difficulty, at least in a meaningful way. But since then it's gotten less special because of more entries for the line and tons of games (indies in particular) making games with 'Souls' elements.
 
I've played about 300 hours across DeS, DaS and DaSII. I'm at a point where that style of game just isn't what I'm after at the moment. It was utterly fantastic, but I've had my fill for a long, long while
 
Usually I get fatigue with similar games as well but this series is the exception. I'm excited for every new one and I even go back and play the previous ones, something I never do with any game. There's just something about these games that hooks me and won't let go.

That being said, if you're not feeling it don't get it right away. Maybe the gaf hype will get you excited when it releases but if not buy it some time down the road when you're ready. No harm in that.
 
i was so hyped for 2 and was pretty let down so im not hyped for 3. i will still get it but with less expectations. i still put 180 hours into DS2 but never beat it which was the first time i didnt beat a souls game. i usually run 3 characters and ng plus
 
I more excited for it because of Bloodborne. Bloodborne was not a Souls game to me with it's very samey environments and forcing shieldless melee combat down your throat. Couldn't be more excited for the build variety and gameplay of Dark Souls III.

I do understand people being burnt out though. Can't say Bloodborne ever pushed me toward being burnt out though. It's a good game, but lacks the Soul of a Souls game for me.
 
My hype is pretty low for this game. I found the faster combat in Bloodborne far more entertaining and I loved the world design. Dark souls 2 had an awful world layout and the environments were mostly pretty bland. I'll wait for some reviews before I dive in this time. Hopefully the franchise ends on a high.

Edit. I think I'm absolutely burned out on the formula also.
 
You're just tired of the formula, it's understandable, the games haven't exactly had huge year gaps in between each one.

Just don't play it and buy the GOTY edition down the line with all the DLC for a cheaper price.

Win win.
 
I enjoy the games when I sit down and play them but don't really feel excited leading up to them. Though either way I'd rather see From move on and do something else at this point.
 
I was mildly excited about it until last month when all that new footage came out. Watching Lobos do the tutorial area was enough to send my hype level through the roof. I get giddy just thinking about it. 10 more days!
 
I kinda feel the same but it's still a day 1 purchase for me.

Feeling slight Souls fatigue and haven't really been blown away by what's been shown so far.
 
I'm indifferent toward it, and I enjoyed Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Bloodborne, and I have Dark Souls 3 preordered at the moment too.

I dunno. They're good games, I enjoy playing them, and I'll probably enjoy DS3 but I too am surprised at how little I care about the game's release.

I even have the DLC for Bloodborne and haven't touched it yet.
 
Loved One, thought Two was okay, and Bloodborne is my favorite game so far this gen. I'm with you OP. I just have zero hype for DS3 right now. I'll probably get it on launch day and love it, but I couldn't even tell you when that is. I know it's soon, I think April?
 
Too many games too close together, with DLC making sure the party never stops. It's pretty easy to get tired of the formula when that happens. Especially since, even though each game has their own differences, they play close enough to each other that a lot of the interesting things from the first one you played are less interesting in the 2nd or 3rd one you play. Like... it's pretty easy to read the level design and things like that once you've played them enough, taking a lot of the mystery out of it. "The shortcut is going to be right around here." "I should jump off this way first, because if I go the other way I'll trigger something probably." Stuff like that.

I'll play DS3 eventually, but unlike the others it's not something I need right away anymore.
 
Well this could go one of two ways.

It could be the return to form for the Dark Souls series, or it could be Robocop 3.

I'm anxious.

Unless I see some reviews that specifically mention it being great despite franchise fatigue that is probably what I will do.
 
I'm excited for Dark Souls 3, but Im not buying it until I finish Dark Souls (just rang the second bell), Dark Souls 2 and Bloodbourne. I've got plenty of Souls games sitting around unplayed at the moment.

Dark Souls 3 looks amazing though, its going to surprise a lot of people.
 
I'm more excited for Dark Souls 3 than I was for Dark Souls 2 right around its release. The most interesting aspect of DS2 was removed. I'm talking about the pitch black areas that had to be lit up. So it was more than just the graphical downgrades, I believe it was entire areas removed and the resulting change to how you approached the game, in addition to the well-documented visual cuts.

In all seriousness, take a break from video games for a month, it might invigorate you a little bit, you don't want to miss out on what is shaped to be the best Souls game yet.

I think this is exactly it for me. The first game gave me a sense of wonder and discovery I haven't felt since playing SM64 for the first time as a kid.
 
I'm not excited enough to play it on day 1 but I will eventually get around to it. Maybe for like $30 or so.

I skipped 2 but played Bloodborne.

I think this is exactly the reason actually. There's a lot less of that mystery and that was a huge factor in the appeal. Unless they're straight up falsely advertising the game like BB, (which was advertised as a werewolf hunting simulator but in the most clever way possible turned out to be a straight up horror game based heavily on lovecraft lore, with a dlc area straight up ripping one of the novels off), I don't think DSIII will be that surprising. I'm more excited by the souls like indie game tbh coming out on tuesday tbh.

EDIT:Seems I made a mistake, S&S is absolutely not the game I was talking about. ._. I meant ETR.

This makes me want a Robo Souls game so much...

Anyway, I'm with you OP. I'll play it eventually but I'm not chomping at the bit to get my hands on it. I need a break from the formula for awhile.
 
Played Dark Souls, then Demon's Souls. Loved the first, really enjoyed the latter.

Lost all hype regarding BB. Thought it was due to franchise fatigue.

Bought the game anyway. Enjoyed it, albeit with some second-half frustrations.

BB DLC dropped and made me a fan again.

Watched more than enough of DSII to know that I won't like it (maybe 3 hours of gameplay clocked on it).

Moderate hype for DSIII.
 
I'm burned out too. I think I've seen one trailer so far and that's it. I am perfectly fine with holding off on this one for a while.
 
Nah. It's not just you OP. I had my fill with Demons/Dark Souls/Dark Souls 2. I was burned out playing DS2 but Bloodborne was fresh and exciting enough that I loved it.

Not much interest in DS3 I'm afraid, I would much rather have Bloodborne 2. Or, better yet, a new IP

The good news is that DS3 has the best elements of every Souls game.

Exactly how I feel. I have loved the series since day one with Demon's Souls and have played them all multiple times.

Simply never gets old with me.
 
It's fine to be burnt out. I would have been burnt out if Bloodborne didn't come along.

but it did, and it added some much needed evolution. Now, I can go back to a new Souls (especially with Miyazaki at the helm) in anticipation.
 
Not really, OP. Looks like more of the same, for which is great for fans of the Souls series, but don't inspire me to rush out and pick this one up.
 
I can't get enough of these games. To me they are everything I want (minus a compelling story) and I get really absorbed in them. Especially in the beginning when you are figuring out the world system and weapons. They are the grandest of adventures and the most satisfying mechanics in the genre.
 
i feel the same way about dark souls 3. demons souls and dark souls were great but dark souls 2 nearly killed the series for me. bloodborne saved it but i don't know if i can go back to the slower souls style of gameplay with dark souls 3.

i also haven't watched a single second of dark souls 3 gameplay and i've only seen a handful of screenshots. i don't want to over hype myself like i did with dark souls 2.
 
I didn't enjoy Dark Souls which I quit after 8 hours (tried forcing myself to like it), but I loved Bloodborne which I completed and then replayed on NG+. I'm in the camp where I think I would enjoy Dark Souls III as it has more Bloodborne in it but honestly? I don't have another souls game in me, Bloodborne while great was fucking stressful.

Yeah. I went through all of Bloodborne just... knowing how things would work, even though that was the only one I played blind. You just know how the developers' minds work after a while.
 
Ignoring the terrible 'Is something wrong with me' framing, I'm a little less excited than I'd expect too.

The reason is Bloodborne. I enjoyed it so much that it feels like a step back going to the grim western fantasy setting that we've already seen three times in the series. If this was Bloodborne 2, I'd be frothing at the mouth right now.

I'm still going to get it launch day and think it'll be fantastic, I'm just not particularly excited yet.

But in all seriousness, you're probably just burned out on the formula and that's totally fine.

Personally, I'm at the point with these games as I was with Mega Man on the NES and SNES: I feel like I could take a new one a year forever and still love them all. They are my Street Fighter. My DOTA. My CoD or my FIFA. I just don't really get tired of the formula.

At least not yet.
