You witnessed some of the weaker films from a mass-audience perspective. The first movie is enjoyable in a cheesy, better-than-expected sort of way. They don't become easily digestible popcorn flicks until 5.

Fast 7 was really underwhelming. After reading all that shit on GAF I expected something great. Not even close to Kingsman which was a much better action flick. I also watches John Wick and found that to be better too. F7 is a really fun movie, but I will probably never revisit and forget about it by next year.

They've finally started to make some good ones. Its been a long time since those Christopher Reeves Superman movies.
You just don't go to see a fast and the furious movie expecting to take it seriously or as great cinema or some deep shit like many people pretend to do when watching a movie. You go to see them to be entertained or to be amused by the stunts they pull,
I learned that while watching Fast5, i just couldn't understand how people where so happy and entertained by the shit that was going on in the screen, but by the time they pull a room-sized safe box out of a bank with cars and cables, something clicked inside me, and you have two options "to roll your eyes" or "to make fun of whats going on and enjoy it", so i understood that sometimes it is ok to turn off your brain and enjoy something stupid, kinda like when you are in the toys section of a store and start to play with baby toys without realizing it, it also helps that the movies don't take themselves seriously or pretend that what is going on is logical, after that you kinda become a fan just to see how they can pull a crazier scenario.

I enjoy the later movies whether they are more over the top action movies more, but I am not much into cars anyway.
But, when you think the movies are "just" cars and guns it sounds like you don't enjoy it. You expecting substance, that is your substance.
You could just pick up things from the fifth movie again, but there is no point if you don't enjoy action movies.

This is wrong. 1-3 are great, yet different than 4-7. Cheesier, maybe, but I love me some 2 Fast and Tokyo Drift.

I love cars, explosions, guns, and stupid popcorn movies. Adore cheesy 80's action flicks.... but I can not understand the love for the F&F movies either and seen them all. They kinda take stupid blockbusters and ramp up the stupidity to overboard.

I saw the first one back in theaters and enjoyed it for what it was. Never saw another until I saw Tokyo Drift on HBO (3). That was meh.
Then this past Saturday, I caught Furious 7. Actually had a really good time with it. Fun, fun stuff.
On Sunday, tried to watch part 6 on HBO Now. Couldn't really keep my attention.
I'm thinking the only way to really enjoy these is on the big screen.

Agreed. The Azerbaijan motorcade setpiece is the best and then the rest of the setpieces devolve into forgettable CGI malarkey but still very well worth watching for the emotional send-off. And Ludacris banter with Tyrese Gibson is loads of fun. Actually, Tyrese is my favourite and Fast 7 cements that when he's made a leader lol. Fast 5 is still the best.
I think only Mad Max has the chance to best Kingsman for action movie of the year.

I feel like people don't give enough credit to stunts and set-pieces in Action movies. Fast 5, 6, and 7 have some of the best stunts you will see.

What I don't get is the hate for FF2. It was the first one I saw, and I liked it a lot. Afterwards I watched the first movie and also liked it, but never got around to watching the third one because they changed all the characters. And since I skipped FF3, I also didn't get to check the rest. And now there are too many movies in the series...

Eh not really, so many of the stunts are just covered in CG. The lack of practical elements kills so much of modern day stunts and just how ridiculous so many of the action set pieces can be..... eh. It lacks the realistic oomph of practical stunt work like that of classics like Die Hard and such. Instead with these movies it's just eye rolling over the top

Fast and the Furious started off well as I enjoyed the more street racing aspect of it. Expanding on that, to me, would have been more interesting. Over the sequels they've just become turn off your brain action flicks, the only reason I can see from a critical point of view as to why people defend it is because they are meta to a degree. Outside of that it's turn off your brain action sequences for two hours while every one counts how many time "family" is said.

2fast2furious is equally as bad as 4 IMO. Both films i only saw once in theaters and at least a half dozen times i wanted to walk out.
Saw the first film 5 times in theaters, Tokyo 3 times, 5 and 6 4 times and so far i have seen 7 3 times. I love the franchise, it's fun and stupid and highly entertaining. First Fast movie is my most watched movie that i can remember. I am obsessed with TMNT and i am told by everyone in my family that i pitched fits to see that movie over and over and between everyone i am told i saw that movie at least 9 times in theaters but i was like 7 so i don't really remember going that many times but doesn't surprise me, i was spoiled.

Before clicking I figured this was from someone who had not seen the last three films. There is a reason you have a perception that the franchise seemed to have died after the first three films. Those movies were not that good. Particularly 2. In retrospect they are better, but without 5-7 this series is nothing.

Yeah, I watched first five movies last weekend (I think I saw 1 & 2 before but could only remember pieces of it. 3 I definitely had watched before) and thought FF2 was actually really fun. Tyrese has some dumb funny lines, the movie is more about crime than street racing. The few dumb action setpieces aren't any more ridiculous than the stuff they start doing in FF5. Tyrese/Walker have better chemistry as buddies than Diesel/Walker do (haven't watched 6 or 7 yet).
Five is really things get fun with The Rock and bringing characters back from the other movies. 1 & 4 are way too serious.

Even some people defending the glorious F&F franchise, which needs no defense, are dumping on the first movies.
OG The Fast and the Furious now and forever remains the best Fast and Furious movie. Life was simpler, times were harder, grinding just to survive, and all you had was family.
