I don't understand the love for The Beatles at all

I don't think that's considered "early Beatles", as that's on Rubber Soul. Early Beatles is generally considered pre-Rubber Soul, I believe.

Rubber Soul is where things started to change (although Revolver is considered the dividing line) but I'd lump In My Life in with the Beatles early sound. It's certainly closer to their earlier stuff than anything they did later.

I especially love "Dear Prudence," and I'm pretty sure it's my favorite song of all time.

Dear Prudence is amazing. My favourite Beatles song, definately.

I can not wrap my head around the love for the Beatles. I've tried, I bought the Stereo Box Set and everything, and I just don't get it. It probably doesn't help that people constantly call them "the greatest musicians ever", or "the last truly progressive band". They have some songs that I can truly appreciate, but they have so many flat-out boring or terrible songs to my ears.

They are pretty experimental and cover a lot of styles. It's not all gonna be for everyone, nor should it be.

They appealed to both female teenage fanatics and elderly men; a rare combination.
Ah, just like how My Little Pony appeals to 7 year old girls and 17 year old boys.

I don't get the appeal either. I find their songs to be kind of depressing in melody. But my mom and dad seem to like them very much.

John's quip about Ringo being the worst drummer is a joke, he was never serious in interviews and loved stirring controversies in the media. Anthology is an amazing compendium and gives a better insight into his actual thoughts:

Ringo's a damn good drummer. He was always a good drummer. he's not technically good, but i think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way as Paul's bass playing is underrated. Paul was one of the most innovative bass players that ever played, and half the stuff thats going on now is directly ripped off from his Beatles period... If you compare his bass-playing with The Rolling Stones bass-playing and you compare Ringo's drumming with Charlie Watt's drumming they are equal to them, if not better. I always objected to the fact that because Charlie came on a little more 'arty' than Ringo and knew jazz and did cartoons, that he got credit. I think that Charlies a damn good drummer, and the other guy a good bass player, but i think Paul and Ringo stand up anywhere, with any rock musicians. Not technically great. None of us were technically great musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as humans inspired to make noise, they're as good as anybody.

Its such an amazing read.

Definitely Maybe had a moment or two. Everything else they ever did was complete shit.

Oh come on. Their two first albums were great albums. If you honestly think What's the Story Morning Glory was "complete shit" you are lying to yourself. Anyways the thread is about the Beatles.
