I emailed NOA, and they got back to me (eshop account system)....

lol amazing. How hard is it to make an account system? Sony had this shit working great YEARS ago with PS3/PSP purchases working together.

EVERYONE has had this shit working years ago. Everyone except incompetent Nintendo.

It's infuriating.

I have about $100 worth of DLC I want to buy from just Theatrhythm and Fire Emblem. Multiple games like Pushmo and Harmoknights. Nintendo won't see a single penny from me until they get an account system.

The only process they have in place at the moment is that you provide them with a police report and they will transfer your account to the new system.

Which means the infrastructure is totally in place to do it. It's just their prerogative to only do it for reported theft/crime.

Lousy anti-customer rubbish.

Do we have any confirmation that with the move to PS4/720 we're keeping our digital content tied to our ms/sony accounts?
Not sure what you're trying to say. Xbox 360 already has an account system, their newer products (Windows Phone) have one as well. PlayStation products also have an account system. Even if you cannot download the content onto specific systems (as is the case with some PSP content on Vita), it still shows up in your download list and you'll be able to download it on either the PS3 (to store it) or on another system to install it.

I thought it was confirmed that the digital content isn't backwards compatible (in the case of PS3/PS4). Basically, keep your PS3 if you want to use any of it's content.

I must be in some bizarre land where people lose or get their 3Ds stolen all the time.

99.9% of 3DS owners will never have to worry about shit but they sit and wear their thumbs thing worrying.

What if the system breaks when the warranty period is over? That will happen to lots and lots of 3DS owners.

At least once per page for as Long as I remember, I will post that the response given to the OP is patently not true, as NOA has replaced my digitial content several times, including instances of loss and theft.

Is it less convenient than having a single account to redownload my stuff? Eff yes. Doesn't mean that they can't or won't do it.

EDIT:

What if the system breaks when the warranty period is over? That will happen to lots and lots of 3DS owners.

My launch Wii got repaired last year and I got all my content, so that is covered as well.

You send your system in and Nintendo will repair it for a fee like any other company. Look I agree with everyone and want an account system that is tied to our content.

Im not going to deny myself quality games and dlc etc because of fear of something that will likely never happen.

Why go outside on the off chance you might get hit by a car. More likely to happen then something to your 3DS

Thankfully, as an Australian, I haven't got much reason to use the eshop for digital downloads anyway.

70 Australian dollars for Star Fox 64 3D digitally. Yeah, FUCK THAT.

Well it's lucky you live in the US where that is possible then. A lot of other countries doesn't even have a local Nintendo division at all or even Club Nintendo.

They'll probably address this problem with incoming eShop webstore and 3DS Miiverse. A webstore will require customer account to operate and 3DS Miiverse will unite two systems together in single NNID account.

I was really hoping he would tell me that with my 3DS serial number, I could get my games retrieved. What a crock.

Guess that's their official line, but in practice if you file a lost item report with the police, they'll let you redownload your games.

I can only guess they do it out of some misguided fear of piracy. It's not really a deal breaker to me, but it is still anti-consumer and highly annoying.

99.9? Yeah, right. It's a handheld, one that's also very popular with kids. It will get lost/broken by a high enough percentage of its userbase to warrant an account system.

But keep trying to justify their lazy-ass, backwards -thinking network infrastructure however you can.

They've talked about having accounts down the line, and they've going to have to, because what they're currently offering is completely unsatisfactory when compared to the competition.

I've easily spent thousands of pounds on DD between my PS3 and 360, with confidence, because I effectively own that software.

I'd feel nervous spending a couple of hundred on DD games for Nintendo platforms.

And not a single damn will be given by Nintendo when tons of games are lost

edit: seriously, hoping they change that crap, I don't like the idea of potentially losing all my stuff.

You can't really lose your stuff. I would just make a note of the serial code and possibly keep your receipt on a safe place/make a copy of it. Having a Club Nintendo account can possibly help too.

I find it hilarious that people attribute this to incompetence on Nintendo's part.

Believe me--this is absolutely deliberate.

Man if my 3DS ever gets stolen or lost, It'll be the last console I ever buy from Nintendo. I've switched over to digital releases exclusively as I am so sick of carrying cartridges, but they really need to fix this framework for me to trust them with a future system, particularly portable.

I don't get why thought. Is it really such a profit deal to resell old ROM dumps? I figured having a unified account system would A) attract the hardcore audience they want and B) keep their audience on their platforms like Xbox Live.

EDIT - and yes. I said hi to Reggie in the email. You never know, that little hello could have resulted them in sending me signed plush toy.

Yes.

Man, I cant wait for a Nintendo rep says "deal with it" to a customer questioning their methods.

Also, is the issue acceptable in europe? I thought consumer rights are better there.

This shit still makes me laugh. I don't know any other company that requires a freaking POLICE REPORT to gain access to digital content one purchased.

As much as I fucking hate this answer I won't stop buying digital. I can't stand having tons of plastic anymore.

And yet people put up with it. WHY??

Because it's Nintendo, I guess. I have only bought one game on my Wii U and it's because I am confident that an actual account system is coming plus I wanted to always have access to NSMBU. On the 3DS I have bought like one game and that was a Game Boy game. The others were part of the Ambassador program.

God bless them but they're so willfully incompetent, it's unbelievable. If you can't even match what Xbox Live was doing 8 years ago, you've got serious issues as a company.

I buy eShop games now and then but I refuse to buy digitally what I can get retail from them, chiefly because of this issue.

wouldn't it be better for Nintendo to have a unified account system? They would not have to have consumer support people help out those that have broken/lost systems to get their digital content.

I haven't bought an Animal Crossing game since the GameCube, but I'm considering grabbing New Leaf when it's out. I really would like something like AC (if I buy it) to be on my system digitally as it's something I could see wanting to play for 5 minutes even when I'm in the middle of playing through something like Zelda.

The account stuff though always worries me about buying a full-fledged retail game digitally from Nintendo. I know if it's lost/stolen sometimes they do help you out, but I'm more worried about the thing breaking -- that might not end well. I could seriously see the lack of an account system causing me to skip a game that I might otherwise day 1.

Nintendo a digital system is such a joke currently. Which is sad considering they are trying to push it really hard. When you offer a account system for downloads Nintendo then you have my attention.

This is why I won't buy anything on the eshop. I'm absolutely amazed at how many people actually buy full priced games on it.

Thankfully, as an Australian, I haven't got much reason to use the eshop for digital downloads anyway.

Don't use the australian eshop maybe? Change your 3DS region settings to one of the main European countries. I don't think the shops are IP-locked nor that credit cards are blocked.

Seriously, stop buying digital games from Nintendo. You are just borrowing them. At some point in time, your system will not be useable- whether it's lost, stolen or dies. You would be foolish to continue buying digital content for the system, until this issue is resolved.

I agree. Nintendo does not deserve support for their "digital download" strategy

Come on Nintendo. You can do what every other company does these days; offer an account system

Hey LazyGaf, back-up your SD card. *pooof* Problem solved. I'm an all digital/32 gig lovin' 3ds magician!

EDIT: Obviously my magic is just like the others, illusions! *grips my 3ds tighter in fear*

I'm actually pretty impressed that you didn't get an automated copy pasta.

+1 Nintendo customer support.

As always Nintendo proving they're just better than other companies.

Dat japanese service culture. "We deeply apologize honorable customer-sama, but you can't order another dish. We only serve shit here. Still, we hope you enjoy eating this shit we prepared with the utmost care and a tradition that goes back to the Edo era."
