I Got My PSP, Now What?

Well, my PSP was delivered by UPS today. So far the only games I have are demos of Daxter and Pursuit Force. They both look great and are fun so far, but the major reason I bought a PSP was to:

-Watch Movies
What is the best way to encode movies? I want them to look great while not being enormous (I've got a 2gb card coming). I've heard something about PMP, what's that?

-Play games using Scumm
If I can't play these games on my PSP, then all is lost.

-Use emulators
What emulators run well?

My firmware is 2.6, so what do I need to do to do the above?

I couldn't get ScummVM to work on 2.5. I upgraded to play Exit (which wasn't that bad of a move, really), but I was right in the middle of a full throttle game. :(

Keep the hope alive! :(

So is it now impossible to play Scumm games and emulators? If so, this thing is going on eBay.

lol....I'm not 100% sure myself, but I don't think there is a proper reliable way to play homebrew on 2.6 - I hope I'm wrong. Check the sticky at the top.

I don't mean to be mean or anything...but ummm you didn't bother researching if this would be possible before you bought the system?

Obviously, yes. And everyone I talked to (online and off) acted like those things were a breeze to do, and a big reason to buy a PSP.

It's most certainly a breeze... for firmware 1.5 and 2.0. You should've researched more.

use PSPvideo9 (PSPvideo9) and encode some nice fine AVC movies. High quality with high compression. Load up your favorite movies and enjoy. The encoding times really depend on your computer. On my crummy computer it takes about 2 hours for a regular movie. Not too shabby. But get a 1gb so you can always encode at the highest quality.

Finally, someone answers a question. If I keep it this will come in handy, thanks.

So you can either play homebrew or play new games, not both?

if you read my post above...you would have learned that some homebrew works on 2.6, but its a very roundabout way and not easy. Scumm doesnt work.

Also since you didnt do research, you probably got a fake 2gb Memory stick? where did you get it from?

= to you NOT doing research and listening to dumb ass friends.

Homebrew on 2.6 involves a legit copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and a hacked save game that will allow some, but not all, homebew to function.

I have an issue with it... maybe it's just me... i dunno... but for some strange that PSPvid9 can't locate my PSP... The comp does just fine for transferring everything else, but that program can't seem to tell that it exists...

Cool, thanks for helping instead of getting defensive. Do you have a link to info on how to do this?

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with it myself, no. But as 6.8 points out, we have a stickied PSP hombrew thread at the top of the forum for these questions. Post there and someone more experienced that I will be able to help you out.

Also, I'm pretty sure the hacked saved game Matix links to in his first post is outdated now, but I'm not savy enough to tell you where to find the latest version. Again, ask in the thread and they'll be able to help you.

The problem with the GTA:LCS exploit is that it is very temperamental and only works 40-50% of the time at the moment a new version will no doubt be released soon... but I wonder how long till firmware v.3 comes out?
