• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

I got Wii Music Yesterday, it's really fun.

May I ask how you aqquired this lovely game dear sir? (I thought it wasn't out in Japan yet)

BTW I am genuinely looking forward to this game so I do actually think it looks rather lovely :D

I'm reluctant to buy those kind of games, since I've already decided to buy much of the rhythm games coming out this year instead.

The crow feast is about to begin!

Get some while it's piping hot.

The turnaround could be epic. EPIC. :lol

I'm still waiting to see what it's about. Count me amongst those who were incredibly turned off by the E3 conference.

I dont think it'll be epic, you'll have tons of nintendo fans who will swear by wii music, everyone else will keep the same opinion, minus a small amount of people. Could appeal to some. It'll be interesting to see if the casual market picks up on this, I mean they have GH and RB(gimped or not), but I can see tons of parents buying this for their lil ones and the lil ones would love the music.

I def would buy it for my 2yr old if I had a Wii.

This is what I was waiting for! The GAF hate brigade will no doubt never admit that they could have been wrong about this game even if it is a revolution in entertainment, so I'm hoping that someone will give me an honest, unprejudiced opinion on it.

Sell me on Wii music, sp0rsk.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the videos and more impressions. I somewhat doubt I will fall in love with it, but there's still a chance. The F-Zero vid made me smirk. That's an improvement.

Videos are being uploaded to gamevideos right now:

There will me more shortly, I have to go to work and I'll post full impressions later.

The game is awesome, no, really I'm serious. Forget what you know about music games.

WTF? Why did that look intriguing? How the hell does that improvisation work. Do you have any control over the notes at all?

I can't believe this looks interesting.

It was interesting to see that several posters changed their position after watching the recent Miyamoto presentation.

More interesting that the change of opinion only went in one direction, from negative to positive.

Oh, and this will be bigger than the latest iterations of GH and RB. Casuals will go nuts for this.

So you would be harder on Wario Land Shake It! than Jeremy Parish was, but Wii Music is "awesome". Remind me to take your opinion with a grain of salt.

Boy, that sure looked like fun.

Those clips sounded bad and you should feel bad.

No seriously, all joking aside. The music sounded atrocious, the midi tracks are atrocious, and the "improvisation" you provided not only made the track sound generally worse, but it showed no desire to show people who suck at the game how bad they are doing.

No change in opinion.

Edit: it didn't help that the "unmolested" F-Zero midi track they provided sounded TERRIBLE. I mean, truly just distractingly bad.

I expect this will be popular with the casuals and even more confusing to the hardcore, thus generating unprecedented levels of hate amongst everyone except the very few shills/crazies/hipsters who will love it for reasons other than its actual merits as a videogame in the traditional sense.

Sounds good Sp0rsk.

I don't see the point of hating this toy.

As I stated multiple times in the past, I think Wii Music makes a GREAT gift for kids that like to make noise.

Hell, I started off by using spoons to hit glasses or banging tin trays, now I'm a guitarist. I would have loved Wii Music growing up.

So, what happens if reviews start coming in and this gets a 90% average?

It won't. The specialist press is - at best - hugely divided over the title, and it's clear from the presentations and dev interviews that it's less a game and more an application or toy & is likely to be judged harshly by publications used to dealing with games.

I watched the videos and my opinion is the same, it looks bad. I'm sure some people will derive entertainment from it, but it's not for me AND THAT'S OKAY. And the people who are going "this is a true music game" and "this will kill Guitar Hero" are annoying.

Until a few of the hardcore 'get it' and post Mario Paint-esque renditions of their favorite songs, and becomes a Youtube phenomenon.

GAF elitists won't get it until others understand it, then they'll all jump on the train at a later date.

so you're saying it will become alt-cool as a parody of itself?

Yes, I hear casuals really hate mainstream rock music and anthems, but have been just yearning to play F-Zero SNES themes on a waggle controlled xylophone.

If this game by some divine miracle manages to be something revolutionary, could you imagine the thread that would result? DQIX on DS would look like nothing compared to it. :lol

LOL Count me in the same boat. Would like to know more about this game from someone who isn't bias. Just surprised sporsk was the one to step forward first.

Not quite as annoying as the never-ending hate-train fueled by chauvinism and wilful ignorance, but to each his own.

Anyway, it is very exciting to hear some informed opinions by a respected poster such as spOrsk.
