It's all about the space bar, Shift+space bar, Home and End. I'll never go back.

Who's with me?

What a rookie. What you do is use one of the programmable buttons on your mouse for Home and another one for End.

I use wheel-tilt left and right as the buttons. This, together with the regular scroll wheel is perfection.

The pro solution.

How does that even work

You mean you don't use your mouse to scroll up and down? If you're going to tell me that you use tab to select links etc. then you are a nutter.

Most of the time I just lean back and can only reach the mouse and because I am not bothered to get up to use the keyboard I turn on the onscreen keyboard and use that.

This is actually a great idea. I don't have mousewheel tilt though.

I will never use a browser without the FireGestures addon.

Hold right mouse button + scrollwheel to navigate between tabs.
Hold right and press left to close tab. Left then right to open a tab I closed accidentally.
And then I have gestures to go back, forward, Home, End, reload, minimize, history, open options, and I do like squares for specific sites, with each additional line taking me to a different site (like Up Right Down to the first site, URDL to a second, URDLU to another, and so on.).

Keyboard seems archaic and doesn't have the precise control of a scrollwheel, and requires two hands for a lot of the shortcuts.

Gestures is fantastic. I used to use them all the time but uninstalled the extension once when it was running like shit. I should get it back.

And Home and End buttons are amazing. I don't know why so few people use them. I hate watching people slowly scroll to the bottom of a long page when they could just hit one button.

it depends. if I'm just browsing through a thread quickly I use the mouse, but when I'm actually reading a thread properly I use the keyboard (home, end, up, down). it's more convenient imo

Shift + Spacebar doesn't do anything for me

It should move up the page (as opposed to just spacebar which goes down [or at least that's what it does for me*]). If you attempted it at the top of the page, that's why it didn't appear to do anything. If you weren't at the top of the page and it didn't do anything I'm unsure as to the cause.

EDIT: *on Firefox if that has an affect.

+ track point and that's me.

Couldn't imagine being stuck with just a gimped trackpad, so inefficient.

I thought you were gonna say that you use a controller to browse the internet because I use it sometimes too. When I want to be far from my computer and browse the net or my hand gets tired from using the mouse a controller is a good substitute.

I never use a mouse anymore either....

...Because I use a Magic Trackpad on my Macs exclusively (Even for games) and touchscreen on my phone and tablet.

I use mouse gestures that map to "scroll to top of page" and "scroll to bottom of page, " and pretty much everything else.
