I hate every character on The Walking Dead. Why did I just marathon seasons 1 & 2?

Maybe you just appreciate the rich and well crafted dialogue? LOL, just kidding, they speak like they are studying first year English. You just want zombies and don't care how hard you have to slum to get it.

I could never watch a non-comedy show where the characters and dialogue was second fiddle to plot. When a show is just based on plot it's becomes like Lost, it's just "things happen!" A time machine, now a hatch, now a ghost! What's the point of that.

I guess I can understand how it's nice for a big event to be happening all the time but it makes you ask, to what end? If you don't care for the people it doesn't matter if a volcano grows beneath their feet or if a asteroid lands.

You make a valid point there, but I was speaking more about the actor than the character. He's not very adept at his craft, especially for a lead role in a very popular series.
wow this couldn't be more untrue, andrew lincoln is KILLLLLLLLLLLING it in the acting department. ESPECIALLY in season 3. He is seriously dropping bombs episode in and out acting wise.

What's wrong with me? Anybody else have this happen with this show, or others. Can't stop watching, but don't particularly like anything a whole lot?

Maybe you are just a glutton for punishment. I stopped watching The Walking Dead altogether two episodes before the season 2 finale.

Felt the same way. the only character I liked was rick. Didn't even watch the second half of season 2. Season 3 makes it worth it though.

To each his own, I cringe almost every time he speaks.

Of course, I'm no expert on acting so maybe he's great and I just don't get it.

I remember an episode near the beginning of season 2 where they found a zombie in a well. The gang felt the need to get the waterlogged zombie out despite there being other wells they could draw water from nearby. T-Dogg, rightfully, tells the rest that it's stupid to pull that zombie out. So they spend the entire episode trying to get that zombie out of there and then at the last second, it splits in half and falls back into the well.

An entire episode wasted on a problem that didn't need to be solved.

Wasn't this because Hershyl wasn't cool with them at the time using his families supply?

what were you expecting left 4 dead kinds of zombie stereotypes?
I think a lot of people honestly were expecting something a little more... Mainstream with this show. I suspect part of the reason a lot of people feel its turned around so much is that because season 3 has, in many respects, become a lot more mainstream. Seasons 1 and 2 , for example, had no clear villain or enemy. Everything and everyone was just in a really gray area. I think people wanted something a lot simpler to understand or get behind, really. They've got that in spades with season 3 with a big bad villain and his potentially redeemable henchman. Shane was the closest we got to a bad guy before, and a lot of people obviously did not want him to be said villain.

Seasons 1 and 2 are more of a post apocalyptic relationship drama, while season 3 drops a lot (or almost all) of that and is much more action oriented. Its more stereotypical, although I dont think thats really a bad thing. It still has an interesting take on the zombie horror genre that you don't get elsewhere... just that it's also a lot more dumbed down in many respects because of it, although it clearly results in a tighter, more focused show.

I liked Season 1 but Season 2 simply had a pacing problem.

I'll just add that after season 2 I was just about done with the show, but my God has season 3 finally put it's foot on the accelerator.

Shane was the worst character, followed by Daryl, then Andrea.

Shanes eyes... stares off into distance around person hes talking to... briefly looks at person mid-sentence... goes back to staring into distance.

actually no, they were fully willing to risk Greg's life even though it wasn't even necessary and the reason didn't even make sense within the logic of the show, ugh. That's probably the lowest moment of TWD so far I think.

he's too hardcore to look at someone when he's talking to them, and he always has to talk in the overly dramatic shane voice comprised of short sentences that usually involve killing something

Six feet under. I absolutely loathe this show. I slogged through to the final season and Im trying to finish it. But I hate it SO much.

Jesus its hilariously mediocre. No clue why it is so adored.

I hate pretty much everyone except Daryl, Maggie, and Michonne.

Season 2 spoilers:
Dale was the worst, though. I literally stood up and cheered when he got his guts ripped out.

I don't agree at all, Andrew Lincoln is incredible this season.
Every scene in the fifth ep with Rick was great, even though he didn't speak at all until the end.

I fucking hate most of the characters on this goddamn show. If I didn't watch it with a friend who hated some of them more than I did, I'd fucking lose my mind. Her commentary was the only thing that made season 2 salvageable

Haven't watched a full episode of season 3 yet, but what I've seen of it actually looks pretty great.

I don't understand the love for shane. The man was a psychotic git. His solutions were only occasionally pragmatic. Most of the time, his immediate reaction was "WHOA SOMETHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY MAYBE HARM US IN SOME CONVOLUTED WAY. KILL EVERYONE."

Everyone hates the show and the characters because they all have some kind of fantasy that they would be so much smarter and more badass if they were in a zombie apocalypse as opposed to being just as dumb and dying just as easily

Being killed by stealth sombies is dumb.

I think the strength of the first episode is what keeps everyone watching, hoping they can reach that again. And they do from time to time hit moments that are that good, but I don't think they've fully hit a whole episode as awesome as the first one. But everyone puts up with the terrible characters and predicaments they get into with the hope they'll reach that level again.

The pilot episode tricks you into thinking this is going to be a great series.

Then the rest of season one kinda sucks.

And then the first half of season two happens and things aren't much better.

The second half of season two starts trimming the fat and getting rid of the dumb parts of the show. It actually starts getting really good towards the end of season two.

And season three is pretty awesome so far.

I quit during season 2.

Here were my beefs:
- Nothing happened
- There was no sense that anything was going to happen
- I didn't like any of the characters
- I didn't find the zombie thread scary or thrilling
- I didn't like the writing
- Visually, it wasn't really all that interesting

How many of these things were fixed for season 3?

I echo these sentiments. I caught the first couple of episodes of season three before it finally hit home. The show really does nothing for me.

- visually...that I can't say, only because that's really subjective. But the 2 sets they use most are pretty impressive.

Really? You think it's impressive? It's primarily shot in the inside of a prison. I could only imagine the party the AMC budget people threw when they heard interior shots would be staged, and that there'd be a lot of them.

Because Shane was the shit.

He became my favorite character the moment he turned psycho in S2. Every week I was hoping he would murder Rick's wife and kid or someone else.

he gets wtfowned by rick after talking shit for weeks about how he's a coward
, how can he be anyone's favorite character, even from a badass perspective?

Dude went into a
fight with a gun and got killed by a knife. The lame death was appropriate for him.

He was really well written though, one of the only characters during season 2 that was. He was just a complete fucking dickhead.

Sure, if you like murderous sociopaths...

I have 0 problem with murderous sociopaths. It's everyone, often the murderous sociopath themself, that tries to pretend they were just doing whats necessary and not just being assholish or idiotic about the whole thing.

I quit after the pilot. Rick's actor is awful, his son was awful, the other characters were awful, and the zombie schtick has overstayed its welcome.

I read the comics up to issue #60 or so a few years back, then quit. But the show seemed so wooden.

Shane got to the point and did not waste time dicking around like little Ricky. Perhaps his approach was rough but his thoughts were right for the group. New world = new rules and Shane is the better leader.

Lincoln is awesome. Fully agree that he's been crushing it this season. Also, his stares are the best things on television.

Until he went completely insane.

Also, he's a rapist. So there's that.

He also tried to steal a man's wife and kid from him even after seeing he's still alive, and was willing to kill the guy in cold blood to get it done.

Fuck him.

Perhaps you marathoned the show because you hate the characters and enjoy watching them make stupid decisions and suffer.

I love the show, but damn, the acting is HORRIBLE. Daryl is good, the rest are total rubbish. Rick, man, I can't believe he got the job. And no, just because it's from a comic book doesn't make it ok.

The Walking Dead is one of those things, I've just had to shake my head and accept that I just don't get it. Most things people like, I can at least understand why they're popular, even if I don't personally like them. But I don't see how anyone can justify continuing to watch this show after that awful season on the farm. But when it came back, half my Facebook was like "OMG WALKING DEAD IS BACK!!!" I don't understand it.

I was glad to see that
Lori died, though. It's OK to want fictional characters to die just because they're annoying.

I fucking hate walking into these threads and accidently spoiling myself because I think maybe the spoiler would have been marked with what season and episode it was talking about if it was outside the scope of the thread. I figure I'm on episode 4 of Season 3 and it'll be fine to look in a thread about Seasons 1&2

FUCK

i really dont have any complaints about the show after an underwhelming S1. i can understand why people dont like S2. They also would not like the comic. Theres pages and pages of nothing but words there too.

i also find it funny that Darabont got the axe because the show is doing in S2 what people asked for from the start. Following the comic more. The main gripe i have with S3 so far is that things are moving too quickly. i guess its too much drama and not enough action for most.

The fact that the slow zombies like the ones in TWD are even a problem is part of the reason I just cant take it seriously even if the game and the comics are pretty decent.
