I HATE everyone who invades FOB's in MGSV!

"Should have bought insurance" - Konami 2015.

It's a screwy and arcane system. I've been tempted to go back and see what type of ghost town my FOB became after I finally figured out the basic rules and blocked it from connecting to the internet.

The first time I did this it was by pure accident and I felt terrible. Then I realised how useful it is.

Next step is to throw them onto the ground from a tall place. Doesn't count as a kill either but it doesn't feel as good.

I love invading bases, I love stealing your stuff, I love poorly defended bases. This is all on you, I didn't play for two weeks and when I logged in I had a ton of gifts because of how many times my fob was successfully defended.

Any containers I lost I went into the invaders base, took mine back, stole theirs, and murdered everyone I could to make sure they never dare take my stuff again.

FOB is a blast, I have very much enjoyed all of it. Being afraid of it causes way more issues than just investing in it. Your base is probably poorly defended, or underdeveloped making it a prime target. You probably don't have many allies to help protect your base. There is so much bullshit misinformation going around on FOBs, the game does not punish you for being away. Play it correctly and you will be fine.

The reason it's happening still is because there are loads of FOB events going on now for prizes.

Basically this. Its a shitty thing to put a mechanic in the game that shows up in F2P mobile base defense games in a full priced 60 game. Punishing you for essentially taking a break from the game.
Agreed.
I am fine with those mechanics in Clash of the Clans, not a Metal Gear game.

I've never even made an FOB, just decline their TOS when you boot the game and you'll never be prompted for any of that shit.

I am still working through SP but ughh at what people are describing.

Also, I really wish it would stop giving me all that junk notice on bootup about MGO when all I want to play is SP. And why is there no suspend mode support on PS4?

I turned the game on last week after not playing it for a few weeks. Saw that I was now in the red and everything leveled down. I decided I would just uninstall since I didn't want to deal with that.

So I was thinking of making a thread about how good the FOB system is then this popped up.

I actually quite like the system the point is that you fight over resources and personnel, upgrade your base security and people will have a very hard time extracting your people. It's actually quite fun, I have about 50 successful invasions mostly easy bases - lesson number one protect your shit. You can either play through the single player and very slowly build up your team by capturing Ai guards with good stats or you just steal them from someone else online.

If the base has a good security level once you are spotted it's very hard not to get wrecked andnif the defender turns up it nigh on impossible to reach the core. So allowing you to defend all infiltrations would be a bad idea I'm.

Any player with decent equipment can decimate a AI controlled base. After I was attacked I just suited up in my Battle Armor, equipped a grenade launcher, and decimated whichever person appeared in my Retaliation Targets list. That dude had a heavily defended base with all the do-dads and heavily armed soldiers, I killed them all and took all his crates. Investing money into defending your FOB is pretty pointless as the only real deterrent is you being physically there to defend it yourself.

This is why I refuse to play MGSV anymore. If I come back to my game and some shit like this happened I will just toss that shit and hate it forever. I'll leave the game with the good memories intact

I think I got invaded for the first time yesterday.

I'm not even to the point where I can do FOBs, but I logged into my game and I was almost completely out of money and Fuel resources when I had quite a lot the day before.

I've thankfully not once been invaded.

I can only assume because I'm low in the rankings/never done it before?

Stealing virtual goods should be a crime, people have invested time & resources in obtaining the goods only for someone to come in & steal them.

Funny enough, I invaded some FOB's last night. I have thrown soldiers into the ocean rofl. Most of them are low levels ones.

The only thing I don't like are how resources are pushed online and if you want to develop anything and your mb resources + online resources are greater than the required amount, but your still not able to develop it since most of it is still online.

Haven't been invaded yet. A good majority leave their FOB defenseless, so I've been running to the top of their command base.

Declining the FOB isn't really an option. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.

It'll mean that your base team strengths are halved compared to having the FOB (it's essentially a second mother base).
I doubt it's even possible to get the high level research when offline, unless you grind out S++ ranked guys in everything.
Even base development will suffer, so it'll take forever to process those resources.

It's much easier to just get an FOB and accept that, rarely, you'll get raided and lose a few people that'll barely be missed.

Maybe you'll lose some unprocessed materials too, but I'm not even sure what the point of those is, since I'm always swimming in them. The bottleneck always seems to be the processing speed, and people can't steal your processed resources (I think).

The system is generally self-policing, since heavy base raiders get matched with other FOB fans, so you won't get raided often unless you are a raider yourself.

Of course, the whole system is still bullshit and adds absolutely nothing positive to the game (since MGO exists for people who actually want online play instead of griefing).

No Konami, I will not buy your stupid MB coins, insurance policies (that's a nice base you got there, shame if something were to happen to it...) or pachinko machines... Fuck Konami

I dunno what happened, but I was never once invaded through FOBs after the initial forced mission while I played through Metal Gear. I built and full upgraded a FOB and everything.

After completing it I wondered if there was some missions I missed out on because I was not engaging in the FOB stuff.

I logged in recently and apparently my base is so well defended that I gained a bunch of new levels and destroyed a bunch of idiots who tried to infiltrate my base.

*sigh*

I think everytime I see this gif... my already lukewarm appreciation for MGS V gets just a little bit colder...

I never did anything that had to do with FOB's op... switched my console offline everytime I played the game

I log on three times a week for the MB coin rewards. Last night I got on to find some dude took 87,000 resources. I don't even know if I have it in my heart to try and steal them back. It just makes me even less likely to go back and do single player content because of the extreme catch up I'll have to play. It's a shame because I'm not horribly far off of 100%ing the game, I just have to s rank a few missions and build the remaining equipment.

I liked FOBs when I was playing the game every day, but now that I'm not it's just a kick in the dick everytime I get on. Like I'm being punished for not having the game on 24/7

The suggestion to lock down your S ranks is a good one but you can only direct contract 10% of your population (210 max with 2 full FOBs and 2100 troops).

So if I stopped playing around missions 17 and want to eventually finish the game but have no interest in this FOB stuff...it's possible right?

You can opt out but it fucks over your development timers, slows down your resource processing and locks some equipment away from you.

If you take a few minutes to understand the system it's extremely easy to build a FOB and get enough defenses to stop 90% of players from getting in. Plus there are so many FOBs that exist your chances of getting invaded are infinitesimal. I've been playing since launch and I've invaded 100+ FOBs and I've only been infiltrated 4 times. Only 1 making it through.

Yeah, if you don't participate in invasions, it's highly unlikely you'll be invaded often. OP seems to be an exception. Be sure to upgrade security on your FOB eventually so you aren't a sitting duck, though.

I did it once for the trophy by murdering tons of their soldiers for fun, and then never touched the game again. I imagine my base is probably empty by now.

As someone that just started playing this game last week....

Do I need to do any of this FOB stuff?
So... I obviously need to build forces so that I can develop new weapons. Is there a way I do that yet not worry about all of this other stuff?

*Edit*
Looks like I was confusing mother base and FOB.
It doesn't sound like I have even done the FOB thing yet.

Good.

It is sorta bullshit, I wish it had been more clear in the tutorial that you don't actually HAVE to build an FOB. But I've just made it uninteresting to people, hopefully. Only 1 deck, not a lot of people, but maxed the security stuff. I'm hoping it looks like a lot of trouble for no real payoff?

So far so good, never been invaded.

For future reference, build up your FOB security and don't invade. You should be safe 95% of the time.

Yep. I've not touched MGSV since I beat it because this stuff kills my interest. I also can't be arsed pulling my ethernet cable out just to play it offline (which doesn't matter as they take stuff from you offline apparently)

Back up save. Boot game.

Were you invaded?

Yes: Let the game "Sync." Quit game. Put backup over Synced save. Reboot.
No: CONGRATS move to last bit.

CONGRATS. Nothing of yours is lost nor taken unless it was the "online" past 5million GMP cap.

WOWITSFUCKINGNOTHING.gif and only annoying you have to do that in the first place.

FOBs are fun because its actually challenging stealth. A lot harder than the SP. Not to mention the resources and stuff. Also, it gets hype when the owner comes in for some PvP.

Oh yeah, and Konami's really incentivizing FOB play with events and rewards. Like right now you get MB coins for getting espionage points (I.e successfully invading and stealing resources and staff)

Also, git gud

If you could just opt out of it and there was a better support/defend system, I'd be perfectly fine with it. It's an interesting concept, and if resources were used for PVP stuff somehow, it'd be more interesting (i.e. you could volunteer your base to be used as battlegrounds for online matches, you lose/gain resources depending on who wins, and those could be used for weapons/airstrikes/etc.). Has a lot of potential to be more fun and high-stakes, though who knows if it'll go anywhere.

Out of ~17 defenses, there were only two times I didn't kill the invader, and they were killed by the base owner's people. Only once did the invader even get close enough to CQC me and I just respawned after getting fulton'd — it's stacked so far against the invader that I can't complain about it too much.
