I hate time stamped save games.

Yeah, so I never beat Champions of Norrath.

I decided to run through it and put the nail in it's coffin so I can pick up Return to Arms at some point. Fire up the PS2, load save game - HOLY SHIT! I haven't touched this game in over a year?! What the hell.

Man - makes me feel old god damn it! >:|

Christ, I've probably been playing Breath of Fire for two years now. And now you understand why I don't mind if it only takes me three hours to beat a game.

SHORTER = BETTER!

I hate games where the time stamp and name of the area you are in make up the ENTIRE save game name

also, combine this with a list that reorganizes itself so the newest save is always on the top

and combine this with a lack of a profile system when dealing with multiple people using the game

and you have the Deus Ex 2 (XB) saving system which I hated

I put in Twisted Metal Black last night and went to check to see if I still had my saved file for it. Turns out the last time the game was saved was in Jan. 2003. Wow, 3 years ago.

p.s. Twisted Metal Black is awesome

"Twisted Metal Black is a like a game that is still awesome after not playing it for Three Years. Hells yeah."

Hells Yeah

I hate RPGs that clock your playtime. Seriously, it's one pet peeve that really annoys me, because it is one of the main reasons why I rarely ever finish RPGs. Everytime I boot it up, I'm thinking "Jesus, I've already put 20 hours into this, and I'm only like a third of the way in", and it makes it feel like you've been playing for ages, where as with games that don't clock your time, the game seems to fly by to me.

I hate RPGs that keep the timer running on the pause screen

if the game is paused I AM NOT PLAYING IT, AM I

I think time stamps are cool: I realized I hadn't played Skies of Arcadia for like 4 years last time I booted it up :O

I am ashamed to admit I hate that too..

I wish every game had a timer.

I also wish that every game paused the timer when you PAUSED THE GAME. It drives me absolutely nuts. I want to know my real time played! I like playing games while I'm also on AIM! Help me out, devs!

Yep.

All games should have a bunch of useless stats aswell. Like, how many enemies you've killed etc... like in Terra Nova Strike Force Centauri after returning to DOS it writes out how many trees in the game you shot while playing. Or, every game should have the original Unreal Tournament's stat scripts. Graphs and all.

Useless stats FTW!

After every long SSB:M session, my friends and I always spend a few minutes savoring the useless stats before people finally start wandering home. It's part of the ritual. And then of course if the Timed Match Total is like 1998, well we can't just quit on that, can we?

And what game was it that kept track of how many times you had run into a wall? I can't even remember the game, but I still remember that stat. Awesome stuff.

I hate games that are like 'hey you, man, come over here' and I go 'why? I am comfortable here in my chair' and they go 'better get over here or I will shut off' then I'm like 'nooooo!' and I lose my PROGRESS :(

During its last anniversery, FFXI had NPCs that told you a bunch of your stats, like how many monsters you'd killed, how many party invitations you'd accepted, how many times you'd died. They even showed server averages taking into account everything that had happened since the game went online three years before.

A lot of RPGs use the pause screen as an inventory/equipment/stats/magic/burrito making screen so there really isn't a distinction between playing and not playing. The game doesn't know if you are away or just taking a really long time counting your GP.

One of the 360 dashboard upgrades should be timer for every game, that goes along with the xbox.com stuff showing how long you have played each game.
