• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

I have $20 on the Switch Eshop. What game should I get?

I don't know when you got your Switch but feel free to get some of the early eshop games such as Blaster Master Zero or Fast RMX as they lack physical releases.

Did anyone try Unruly Hero? It looks interesting but I didn't try it for the moment. I plan to play it eventually:

Same here. It came out of nowhere and I've heard nothing about it. Looks super polished and unique as a "UbiArt" style game.

I haven't found anything yet :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Being honest, I don't like most indies... I don't have much time to play, so I end up being very picky.

I can enjoy any genre, but I like games with "value". Hollow Knight is the perfect example, as well as Cave Story, Cuphead, Shovel Knight, Machinarium and so on, they are "special" games.

That's the kind of game I'm looking for...

Sonic Mania seems like a good fit, but it's 66% off on Steam right now and $20 is quite a lot of money where I live...

If you guys still have suggestions, I'm all open, in the meanwhile I'll check the eshop every week to see what's on sale, lol.

Thank you!
I wonder if Banner Saga might meet your criteria. Tactical strategy game, story driven. 10 hours or so gameplay. Sometimes goes on sale. Reviewed well but haven't played it myself.

Failing that, the most Shovel and Hollow Knight type games I can recommend would be Guacamelee 1 and 2 and Steamworld Dig 2. All very good value.

If you've never played it, Final Fantasy IX has been fantastic so far. Granted I've never played it but it was a staple in my childhood as my older brothers played it all the time. Great story, graphics are a bit shotty but that's expected, gameplay is obviously dope, and it has options for you to play how you want! Want just the story? Turn on one hit kills and turn off random encounters. Want the classic experience? Don't do anything! Want it to be a bit easier but still want all the random battles? Just turn on battle assist! I know it seems steep for a game that came out in the early 2,000s but I think it s a great buy at 21$.

Played it on PC, great game although I wish there was more constant gameplay...

around that price, i would get ff9, onimusha or okami, with the knowledge that, aside ff9, they aren't very long games and they're all remasters

they're still great to play on the go

i know that there are great indies out there, but i like the "classics" more
:messenger_open_mouth:
Jesus, if Okami isn't a long game I'd hate to see what is.:messenger_grinning_smiling:

On topic, Stardew Valley or Undertale would be my suggestions if you have not played either.

Does Stardew Valley fall under the Minecraft/Terraria/Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon style?

I'm not a huge fan. :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I never played Okami... does it have any Zelda qualities to it?

It does, and some mechanics are nifty... Like, obtain new ability/item on a dungeon tied to the story, and then reach out new areas thanks to that ability/item. But if you love yourself, don't go for a complenionist run.

For me there were some obscure obstacles that I needed to look up

In no particular order:

Iconoclast: Kinda like a metroidvania game with a good story, platform and ost

Owlboy: Same as iconoclast.

The messenger: Great action game with amazing and funny writing.

Blossom Tales: Heavily inspired on top down Zelda, good game.

Wargroove: Heavily inspired on advance wars, but with heroes and its own additional mechanics. You can also have dogs.

Once you decide on a game (2021 at this rate) please let us know which one and how much you disliked it :)

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I'll probably end up getting Sonic Mania or add in a little to get Mario+Rabbits in the next sale

It's hard to buy indie games on Switch when they cost 1/3 on Steam

And I already have quite a lot of those suggested, so it's not like I'm the one at fault for being picky :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Thanks man, I'll check it out :)

Imagine Harvest Moon with more stuff to do, that's tailor made to hit gamer's brain's addiction centers. I never liked the Harvest Moon series myself, but somehow Stardew Valley made me its bitch.

Better 3d Zelda than a lot of 3d Zeldas.

Original Zelda? Alundra.
Best 3D Zelda after Mayora's Mask? Okami

LOL why the hell is people so eager to keep helping this dude who seems to want a 10/10 for 20 dollars. Get SMB3 on the virtual NES.

Because clearly they exist?

Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, Cave Story, Bloodstained CotM, Cuphead, Owlboy, Child of Light, Salt and Sanctuary, Banner Saga, Odallus, Machinarium, Botanicula, Inside, Portal, Gauntlet, Runner 2, Dust AET, Ori, etc...

If you like buying crap like Super Meat Boy, Broforce or Don't Starve then that's your problem, man.

Castilla Ex is on the Eshop now. I would say get that. If you like Ghouls n Ghosts this is the best indie version I have ever played.

What about resident evil révélation 2? It has multiplayer too, some neat grinding, very fun
