Most foods, maybe. But milk only lasts a few days for me, and by that I mean after a few days it starts to smell rancid. Five days tops.
If this is true I bet there is something wrong with your fridge. Either that or you should stop buying your milk from the van at the end of the dark alley.

You are sooooo much more likely to get food poisoning from pre-contaminated food or from a restaurant than from expired groceries. Also, pasteurized milk is highly unlikely to have any kind of harmful bacteria in it, ever.

It comes in a bag doesn't it?

Hey, it's my food, I can do what I want with it. I may throw out more food than I eat, but I have peace of mind knowing that I'm only consuming fresh food. I don't have to worry about food poisoning or tasting something rotten.

Instead of having your abstract "feels good" rules, I say you should get some knowlegde on food conservation instead and then adjust your "feel good".
There's a ton of things that won't devellop bacteria for 3 days and more if they are at the right temperature --- like in the fridge. I you cover it with plastic paper (or whatever it's called in english - sorry), there's no air circulation and this quadruples (at least) how long the food will last. There's also the fact something is cooked or not that will add days, even certain spices will change food conservations alot.
I personally think it's an interesting subject and while it's "your food", you would still waste less stuff. Wasting stuff is wasting stuff. It's everybody's loss and it's no good.

Sliced deli meat seems to go bad after about a week, but the prepackaged crap lasts at least twice that long. Must be loaded with preservatives.

After working at a deli counter for several years, this is the rule. Just sliced ham/turkey/roast beef will last about a week if you keep it tightly wrapped after opening. Sliced cheese could last a month at least.

The location was subway - the sandwhich of choice was a meatball sub and chocolate milk.

6 Hours of holding back nausea later, I ran to the toilet to unleash what felt like all the fluid in my body. Thank god it was only once but my stomach made the oddest sounds for about 2 days afterwards.

That was 3 years ago and to this day I still haven't had a chocolate milk to drink, or meatball anything to eat :(

I don't usually have any stomach issues. Once I was at a friends place, and he had eggnog 3 weeks past the expiration date. I drank it anyway. It tasted fine and nothing happened

One time I ate one of those subs from 7-11. Worst idea ever. I was sick all day and threw up 15 times.

Now the only thing I get form 7-11 is Slurpees.

You've gotta be joking right? That's some serious paranoia about food poisoning.

chowing down on some 3day past expiration date milk at the moment. Tastes good! As for eggs don't they just lose nutrients over time, and only really go "bad" if they grown bacteria. keep my fridge spotless, and have eaten some really really old eggs. but then again I get fresh eggs from our chickens. don't really pay attention to expiration dates, if it looks and smells OK I'll eat it.

Have also had some epic food poisoning before, but that was from some undercooked meat I believe. Wouldn't even wish that on my worst enemy.

What pansies the lot of you are. These threads are even more pointless and shrill than ones sniveling about UPS or FedEx.

My general rule with milk is to pitch it once there is under a week until expiration. At that point, down the drain it goes.

Same here. I won't eat bread within 2 days of expiration either. Sucks for me.

I actually had the same thing a few months back. It was in a place I had never gotten Subway from and the meatballs tasted odd, but not "bad". I was sick the rest of the night.

I made myself some shandies the other day out of 4 year old Boddingtons and 4 year old lemonade.

I assume this is OK as I'm fine.

Damn that's not cool. The funny thing is I called the owner of the place the next day explaining what had happened, and he offered me and my coworkers a free sub...

I haven't been there in 3 years

Disgusting. I give opened containers of food 24 hours before I take it out of the refrigerator chuck it. I'm not gonna risk eating some nasty, rancid food.

Don't trust expiration dates. As soon as that shit is opened, it's a ticking time bomb.

You realize if anything expiration dates are TOO early so you throw it out and buy more?

One day after school my mom took us to Taco Bell. I ordered 2 bean burritos with sour cream and only ended up eating one of them. I put the uneaten burrito in the refrigerator. They next day I came home from school and remembered I had saved that burrito. Wanting to eat it I went to the refrigerator but it was not there. I immediately began questioning all members of the household to determine who had dared to eat what was mine. Everyone claimed they had not eaten it. Wanting that burrito so desperately I figured the only other option besides all my family lying to me was that it had somehow ended up in the garbage. I searched the trash and found the burrito still wrapped in the Taco Bell bag. This was probably about 24 hours from the day before when I assumed I put it in the refrigerator. It was also nearing summer and it was a very hot day. Nonetheless, I microwaved it and ate it. Once I had told my family members what I had done they all said I was going to be sick. Luckily for me that was not the case. I ended up being fine. Looking back on it that was incredibly stupid to do and gross.

I'll eat food a few days past the expiration date. I always smell milk before I drink it regardless of the date. I've had milk that turned sour before it expired. I'll also eat food that's been left on the counter all day and never had food poisoning.

So wasteful. Most bread doesn't even have an "expiration" date, it's a "Best Before" date - meaning if you go beyond that date it may get harder or lose some quality, but it's still perfectly edible. Just keep it in the fridge or a non-humid environment.

One time I got food poisoning from a shrimp po-boy. Over the course of two days I ate the following: one Special-K bar and that's it lol. God those were a painful two days.

Bad spam. Tasted kind of 'off', but in my brilliant judgement I continued to eat it.

I had to endure violent turmoil in my stomach for hours. I really despise throwing up, so through force of will I suppressed the urge to vomit until it eventually subsided. Fuck you bad spam.

i literally just got done eating three eggs (fried) that had a use by date of june 7th on the carton. feels good.

same here

Hmm.. I've been eating eggs that are two months old they cook, smell and taste fine. I didn't really think they go bad but I'm sure they will eventually catch up with me. Thanks for reminding me to not eat them, haha. (I've eaten them on multiple occasions) :(

Same. I keep eggs for months after expiration. Rarely do they go bad.

Dude, old taco bell tastes disgusting. ...i dont know how you could do it. It makes me sick just thinking about it. Gross man. I guess youll eat anything warm and salty.....

.. :D

As someone who ate three day old chinese food that wasn't even refrigerated properly and was fine I'd say the chance of danger is rather low. I just don't mess with anything that smells off.

op here, in case anyone is wondering, im alive. slight stomach pains for an hour and i was good. didnt even get fucked up drunk on whiskey either

I've eaten some pretty old stuff, never gotten sick from that.. but I had a chef's salad from some cafe at the Luxur in Vegas on the 2nd to last day we were there. I got super-gassy on the plane ride home, then shitted and puked my insides out for the next 12hours. There was nothing else to shit or puke, I literally had shit and puked everything out, but it wasn't enough. No, it wasn't. I had these farts that weren't only loud, but they were violent, and long. I probably could have scooted a quarter across a table with one of these farts. I went to the doctor on the 3rd day, having not eaten anything since the morning of the flight. She said it was probably salmonella or e-coli, not sure, but that my body would get over it eventually by itself.

It was a week of absolute terrible terrible everything. I wish it upon no one.
