I just love NXE, it's so great...

I've disliked NXE since its launch. It's just a crappy design, and I miss the blades. :(

None of the consoles have good UI's at the moment, but this one is by far the worst. It is ugly and absolutely riddled with useless shit at every turn.

I would say that the Wii has a great UI that is simple and works.

I have a 250 S unit and still have the really long load for my arcade games too.

Oh, odd. Maybe it is dependent on how many games you have?

That's right, bend over and take it in the ass. And while you are doing that, I'll use Steam or PSN which has no ads and is free.
Ah, true colors revealed.
He secretly likes it in the ass?

why are you at panel 2 of games/video marketplace?

panel 1 is "browse the games marketplace", "browse the video marketplace", etc.

not that the ads aren't dumb, but it's not like you can't go where you want to go.
I just wanted to show more squares in the same screenshot

And I'm aware that it's functional but it's like going in a road straight line but with tons of ads on each side and you can't miss them. Do I really need that?

edit: not worth it. Carry on.
I'm just trying to understand what compells you to say "What a piece of slow ass, non-functional and ugly shit".

NXE is fast enough. Can it be faster? Yes, but it's not so slow as to be "shit" worthy. You're exaggerating. My TiVo HD, now that's slow shit. Also NXE is by far more attractive than all the other television bases UI in my house. Better than TiVo, PS3, Wii, and even MS's own media center.

It's completely featureless and prone to mad clutter. It's at least not riddled with as much stupid shit as PS3 or 360, but that's because it can't do anything.

and yet, its still better than blade.

No.

4 ads one ad per blade + not hiding shit in tons of menus > hiding options in menus (seriously, NXE is a clusterfuck of "where the fuck can I find that option?") + thousands of ads.

Bzzzt. Sorry, try again.

No. XMB is still the best UI for consoles. Music? Tap tap. Find the music you want. Photos? Tap tap tap, find the music you want.

They just need to fix the "clutter" issue and let me remove shitty applications I don't use (sup, Life with Playstation?) and it's be perfect.

Simplistic, not shoving ads down my throat, customizable (well, as customizable as a "desktop + icons can change" can be).

Nintendo's "channels" wouldn't be bad, I guess. But I don't really like the UI for that. Too busy, but can't be helped for a remote control dashboard.

It's not a big problem but still a disturbing trend. Hopefully MS does not go way overboard with the next console. PSN is faster for the core stuff but takes longer to get into the store (Which is a good thing in my book because I'm not tempted to buy shit) Smart MS!

No, you don't, and it's really obnoxious that some of the ads are where they are. But you don't need to mislead to make your point.

Surprised there are people here who love the NXE. I don't think it's god-awful, but I laugh at the number of ads and the fact that I can't see half of my wallpaper. They really just need to stream line that shit. The design, for the most part, is aesthetically pleasing but there are so many useless panels that take up more space than they need to.

When I said I can't navigate it anymore it's because I used to navigate it for Inside Xbox stuff or things like that but now ads are all over the place and it's confusing. I just gave up navigating it.

You see, I strongly disagree with pretty much everything in your post. I'm not sure you're talking about the same NXE I was referring to tbh. I own (& Love for that matter) all platforms, and I've never experineced anything like NXE. It's just everything I hate about a UI. Some might not hate it as much as I do, and will consider my previous post an exaggeration. But what I said is how I truly feel about it. Everytime I turn on my 360 to buy or search for a downloadable game, I feel lost, overwhelmed and disgusted by it. You and I have a different opinions. No need for using immature, personal terms like 'raped your mom'.

How did you get rid of the ticker on PSN? Please share as I would love to ditch it.

Vinterbird said:
We still have the ticker, and it has ads. Top right corner on the XMB.

Are you guys talking about this?

Or this?

The first is easy to turn off, the second is is just plain text. Probably as unobtrusive as you can get.

Don't make me defend NXE man, I don't think it's that great either. But pretty much everything you need is in the My Xbox tab. Even with the crappy ads it still manages to have a somewhat appealing UI, unlike blades that looks like some dude about to graduate high school made it.

NXE isn't perfect but i would take it over that blades shit anyday.

You turn the 360 on and press down twice on the analogue stick. That takes you to Inside Xbox. If you scroll to the far right, you can click on a panel that gives you the Inside Xbox archive. What's so difficult about that? If the ads were removed, the process for accessing Inside Xbox wouldn't be any different.

The only thing I hate in the XNE is the ugly "3D ground", it fucks up every wallpaper/theme. Also ads don't mind me that much as long as they're related to the XBox and the marketplace. It's nice to get info about the last XBLA games and DLC.

Seriously, the lower half of the screen is brown while it should be an awesome Braid artwork.

Wow, I didn't know there were NXE defenders.

No its probably not as bad as some are making it out to be, but it is really really poorly designed and not fun to use.

Wii's menu is simple (too simple) and useable. XMB is elegant and simple with a few niggles. NXE just sucks.

Yikes.

When's the next NXE coming out? This fall? Next year? Also, is it possible to turn avatars off?

This november when Kinect comes out, and no - Avatars are here to stay. Get used to them.

another "complaint of a complaint":

what's wrong with the avatars? It gives a nice personalized feel, mii rip-off or not. I don't see what makes them so offensive at all.

And on another tangent Achievements should be avatar clothing/prop unlock points. They would then at least serve a purpose, other than the e-peen meter and pay-to-dress-up-the-little-man system we have right now.

I prefer to go by "blade hater" thank you very much.

fuck that UI.

I probably would prefer a custom UI with minimal lag, but NXE is good enough for what I need (and it's not ugly).

Essential Functions:

Friends Online Tab
Boot Disc
Boot Game
Access Marketplace
Netflix

The rest is fluff.

If Netflix was in the guide blades I'd never have to use NXE.

So it wasn't confusing like you were complaining originally, you just don't like ads? That's kind of something different all together. You took some of those screens just to make it seem more confusing than it is. If there's something you want, just browse for it. I don't flip through the rest unless I'm bored.

That's what Avatar Awards are for, but it would be nice if they featured in every game.

When it first came out, I didn't mind it. After using it for a while now, I absolutely hate it as well. It's pretty inconsistent, needlessly convoluted, and unintuitive. I'm not just talking about the top layer of the UI either; I'm talking about the entire experience (other than the new guide which is pretty consistent, simple, and intuitive).

Doesn't really stand out as a marvelous piece of UI design but I don't necessarily see what's so bad about it. Looks decent and gets the job done well enough.

edit- needs to be more customizable though

I like the NXE but Microsoft has made it really annoying. I agree with the OP. There are far too many instances of Xbox advertising (the same square will show up in multiple places), ads aren't always distinguishable from actual content and a ton of superfluous crap makes up 4 of the 8 tabs available (Spotlight, My Community, Inside Xbox and Music Marketplace). It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't so much unnecessary garbage cluttering the interface up.

I would like to be able to disable, and set it to start up at, whatever bar I want. I don't use, or want to look at half the stuff in there.

Also dislike that you apparently have to load up this Zune app to watch the videos you've downloaded. Used to be instant, now you have to sit and wait for five seconds for that pointless thing to load up.

NXE is pretty damn terrible.

Poorly implemented copy of cover flow used with a menu structure that makes absolutely zero sense in that format.

Coverflow is fine when you are dealing with one layer of menu choices that are easily understood at a glance, like say, album covers, but nesting multiple layers of that style with menu options that are not easy to just look at and understand turns the whole thing into a clusterfuck. Especially when 75% of the options are just trying to sell you shit.

What size harddrive do you have? I had the same problem, but after I upgraded to a 250gb harddrive that problem went away.

20gig HD with like 65 Arcade titles. Destination arcade is even worse, No one should ever use that pile of shit app.

Yeah, that is annoying. But it's another thing that is better when accessed through the guide button menu, the 'quick load' list or whatever it's called seems to bring the games up much faster. It does take to long to load the games through NXE, I gotta click on XBLA games on wait a while to play Trials HD.
