I just messed up a 50$ eshop card.

Bought it at gamestop, didnt feel like looking for change...used scissors and completely fucked it up. Went all the way through 5 symbols. Im fucked but i deserve it for being an idiot. Just took 50 dollars and flushed it down the toilet.
 
Can't you take it to the store and have it replaced or something? Why did you need to cut anything again? I was confused about the needing change part.

Is there a serial code and stuff you can use for the replacement? I have no idea how the gamestop gift cards look. I know you can get replacements at newegg when you lose or screw up, somehow, a card.
 
Take it back and explain what happened. They might be able to check it's not been used and offer you another one.
 
What ones? If it's the start I think they all start the same, so you might be able to recover those letters from another eShop card in your currency.

Change as in a penny or a coin to scratch it. No way gamestop would trust that i didnt use the code, unless they have the code and can check in their system if it was redeemed?
 
scratching off the code.

i did that on a best buy gift card once. it was only two symbols and i could partially see them so i eventually was able to write down the code and use it
 
Gamestop wonÂ’t be able to tell if redeemed but hang on to the card and Call / Chat with Nintendo. TheyÂ’ll ask for the number on the bottom left of the card & maybe the reference number from your receipt if available.

They wonÂ’t be able to reissue but I believe they just add the credit to your eShop account.

Edit: Eshop card as in a nintendo currency cards huh? Whoever is in charge for the scratch and sniff code system needs to be ashamed too. Just get regular cards. Though, I never order physical PSN cards. Do they have scratch stuff too?
 
Bets you call Nintendo, I believe all cards come with a unique ID that Nintendo can use to check if it's used. Maybe they can help.
 
I'll admit that upon first glance I thought you only wanted to use part of the balance on the card so you just cut a piece of it off so you could save the rest for later.

That would have been a much more amusing thread.

The scratch off system seems so... goofy... can't believe it hasn't been replaced yet.
 
You can also buy eshop cards via Paypal Digital Gifts if you have Paypal. Ever since I figured this out, I stopped buying actual cards as I once managed to mess up one even using change to reveal the code.

The memories of getting soaking wet on my way to the next supermarket that carried eshop cards because I was out of credits and really wanted a new game will definitely stay with me, though.
 
Happened to me too but with a 3 month Xbox Llive code like 9 years ago. Called both Gamestop and Microsoft and they were unable to help me.

The good news is i didn't waste money because i won it in a random contest for pre-ordering at Gamestop.

Haven't used scissors to scratch anything since then.

That's not too bad.
Just go through all the possible combinations and you're bound to find the right one.

According to a quick internet search that may be wrong, 5 digits from a set of 36 characters means he has 60,466,176 different combinations. Should take a few hours.

What do you consider to be a "regular card"? Every card that I have ever bought for Nintendo eshop, psn and xbox live has had a panel to scratch off to reveal the code.

Either that or the code is printed on a receipt after purchase at the till.

Bad luck OP. I've got close to ruining a card before but never done it.
 
I did the same with Dark Souls 3 code on PC

Almost shredded myself to pieces out of frustration, Namco Bandai managed to save the situation after like 3 days of back-and-forth communication though

I did the same thing last year.

Nintendo will hook you up. Read as much of the card code to them over the phone, they'll take care of it.

I'm guessing it scratched through the code itself, it happens if your scratching tool is too sharp.

The same thing happened to me, I used the online support chat and they were able to tell me the code as far as I remember.

At one combination per second (seems fast, but he's going to get a lot of practice), it should take less than 20.000 hours. Just go at it for two or three years without sleeping or doing anything else, no biggie. :)

I had this problem once OP, Nintendo should help you. I think you might need to have the receipt ok hand. GameStop won't do Dick

Wrong. If you go to return it, the system won't let it be returned if it has been used. Take it in there man. The computer will check if it's been used.

Just happened to me yesterday. Not sure what it is but those eshop card scratch offs are ASS!

Called Nintendo and told them the numbers and my nintendo account email. The lady said the money would be in my account in like 2-3 days. It was like 2-3 hours.

What are you on about? eShop, PSN, XBL cards all use a scratch material to hide the code. Hell, even Amazon cards use them. I don't think I've ever seen a gift card that doesn't? And what do you mean 'scratch and sniff'? You never bought a gift card before?

Wow, you guys got some ancient stuff over there.

Here, any point/cash card system (inc. PS/Nintendo cards, even Amazon) don't use scratch panels any more.

After our payments are confirmed, the cashier just imprints the point card with our national profiles. To get the code, we press the card on our nose and sniff; the code is then telepathically transfered to our brains. Our noseprints (like fingerprints) makes it so we're the only ones who can redeem the code, and the sniffing is the trigger for the telepathic transfer.

I like the iTunes cards because they have a peel off for that material
