I just played Metroid Prime in VR

Sounds cool. Is it jarring when you switch to morph-ball or other third person parts/cutscenes?

Surprisingly cut-scenes didn't bother me at all despite the sudden changes in camera. Morph ball did make me lose balance 3 times or so, but it was minor and eventually I got used to it.

Some discussion about other trying it with other games here:

Thanks. I do have a copy of MP3 so I might try this out.

Is it worth it to do this over Gear vR? I can't imagine VR streaming being very smooth.

When streaming to my phone with TrinusVR I was able to achieve 40 to 60 fps (avg around 53 fps wired with USB, and 48 over a 5ghz wifi, didn't try with ethernet) Idk how GearVR works but i'm guessing its fairly similar to a cardboard or mergeVR so I think u'd be fine. Depending on how you set streaming compression it can be better or worse.

Switch screen is lowres but what would prevent Nintendo to make a headset with a higher res screen in which the Switch connects into ?
Save for cost and hardware power of course.

whaaaaaat. you can STREAM GAMES to psvr? what the fudge? can someone explain this???

Use this. I don't have a PSVR, but I tested it on my cell phone and it works decently well. Using this plus some other software to handle controllers you can play VR games. Some games not designed for VR will require unofficial mods, or a separate 3D driver(Tridef3D) to force those games to display in 3D.

VR without the 3d?

i managed to play in 3D (not vr) but the UI is 2d and i have do weird stuff like disable the crosshair (so i have to aim "realistically")

I've played ALOT of Metroid Prime in VR. It's alright.

Visually, it's amazing to walk around in the enviroments, even with the bad graphics (made much worse in VR than on a flat screen), but gameplay wise it's pretty bad. It's not made for VR at all, and the stiff controls are rough in VR.

So can I do this with Oculus Touch?

The maker of the emulator is angry how the Oculus Reddit has treated Palmer Luckey and he was banned from the forum for saying Luckey wasn't alt-right so he has decided to hold Touch support hostage until the Oculus Reddit changes their ways (but someone there has engineered it to work on Touch too). I'll see if I can find links.

Disclaimer: I have NOT tried this nor checked it for virii or anything.

Has anyone played a VR game that wasn't designed for VR and found it amazing?
I liked Quake VR for Android a lot.
The level design really dwells on elaborate 3D mazes, so it's fun to look around and you get a more natural feeling for the levels. There also only (?) sprites for particles, projectiles for example all all rendered in 3D. Ogres shooting grenades in your face is a cool effect :)
It was fiddely to setup and you should be sitting, though.

I've tried Metroid Prime VR as well as Wind Waker VR and found them both to be neat experiences, but what really surprised me was Doom 3 in VR, mainly due to how well it was done. Using the Vive wands to aim the flashlight and gun made it quite a different and much better experience.

Yeah, I've heard good stuff about Doom 3 VR. I have it and need to get around to applying the VR mods.

What? lol. Hadn't heard about that.

First off super thanks to you Painguy for the heads up about this. Man, this is so awesome...

Looking for some help with freelook settings and some fine tuning.

The setup:

I'm currently prepping and tweaking things to get started playing Metroid Prime VR through Riftcat+SteamVR with my Gear VR. Playing with a Gamecube controller via the Wii U adapter to USB.

The default controls for MPVR function as follows:

Standard Left analog for forward and backward movement + left and right turning.
Holding L trigger is a modifier to allow for strafing and also as lock on to enemies. Holding R trigger modifies the left analog for full manual aim.

Question is... Is it possible to also map the holding of the R trigger so that the manual aim and arm cannon assets follow the freelook headtracking?

I see a small description regarding VR-Hotkeys within the main VR menu under the VR instructions tab but I can't follow exactly what it is referring to updating within the menus.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. How do I scale the HUD so I can see the boundaries of Samus' visor?
