I just restarted Chrono Trigger., the music is absolutely incredible

...I never played Chrono Cross, but the tie-ins found in the additional cutscenes are pretty obvious, and weird to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkWK-NEtmHk

Particularly at the end.. spoilers, of course.

Chrono Cross spoilers:
During the fall of the Kingdom of Guardia in the year 1005, someone steals the Masamune. Masa and Mune have been sleeping for centuries now (Probably since Frog handed the sword over to Guardia). The sword was probably used for bloodshed, and without the two spirits inside to purity the sword, it became full of evil and hatred, changing its form and corrupting everyone who touched it.

It is unknown how the sword found its way into El Nido, but it is possible that it was in the possession of Porre, and it was left there in the main island by them.

My favorite thing about Chrono Trigger is how well done the setting is, and the music is a big part of that. Glad to see Corridors of Time getting so much love in this topic.

Thanks Ishida. Only a matter of time before this thread turns into another Cross debate thread now. And we were doing pretty good so far.

Are there good midi versions of the songs (beside those on vgmusic)? I have a Yamaha Motif workstation I could play them on.

one of the many reasons why this game is, without any doubt, a true masterpiece. i hope history never forgets this game

Considering how often I see topics like this, and how I still see first-timers falling for it, I feel confident that time is on its side. ;-D

What, no mention of Sealed Door? I used to listen to this soundtrack and this song in particular relentlessly before I ever finally got around to playing my way through the game. Then, seeing all of the music that I loved suddenly appear at emotionally resonant times during the game was pretty amazing.

In 2005, Yasunori Mitsuda made a concept album, Kirite, which was released along with "The Five Seasons of Kirite", an original short story by Masato Kato. It's an amazing album and as far as I'm concern this is the closest thing we got to a new Chrono game.

I listen to that album a lot. Love it.

It's an absolute shame how little he composes for new games nowadays. By and far my favourite composer, but people don't get to listen to him enough.

Mitsuda's music makes for the best arranged albums. No contest.

Still waiting for the Chrono Cross Arranged album he was teasing for years. *-*

I had always hoped that the new game Takahashi would make would have Mitsuda as the composer. Instead, we got Hiroyuki Sawano for Xenoblade X.

Not only was I bitter, but I don't like Sawano much lol.

Double the bitterness.

Hope this isn't a pointless thread, I've been listening to this song on repeat for like 15 minutes now and it's just too incredible not to share. I can't wait to get back into the game!

There is no such thing as a pointless Chrono Trigger thread.

Happy Gaming!

You people only like it because of nostalgia.

Just kidding, I played it for the first time a few years ago and it's one of my favorite games.

Also, more Wind Scene, please.

Chrono Trigger is my favorite JRPG of all time, and quite possibly my favorite game ost of all time as well. I love all the original music but I also have hundreds of remixes.

A few of you have mentioned To Far Away Times.

Here's a godlike piano only rendition with heavy jazz influence:

To Far Away Inspirations

Looping this song has gotten me through many, many hours of projects.

I had an amazing download of an orchestrated version of most of this soundtrack from some torrent a decade or so ago.

I've never been able to refind house versions. Others, but never that perfect version of Frog's theme.

So good.

Schala is probably my favourite character in any game. She had this intriguing vibe to her where you could feel she was important, but didn't know much else about her.

Never felt that in a video game. Her character in Zeal was just something else.

She also has my favourite theme in the game. Love those exotic Arabian sounds.

When I was in elementary school, I set up a tape recorder to record my tv speakers during one of the moments Schala's theme was playing in the game, just so I would have a loop of it that went for hours and hours. I was a silly kid without the internet.

Wow, I'm much more thankful for today now lol.

I played this game about two years ago. Schala's theme is what got me into playing the game.

The beat for Part II is even better. Secret of the Forest, maaan.

It's hilarious reading the YouTube comments and seeing how much butthurt there is because of Wiz.

I agree. If an artist samples music from a video game I love, more than likely I'm gonna enjoy it.

On replay of Chrono the only thing I don't really like anymore is the story, even with fan translations. I wish they would make more 2d games with high-res sprites though. Genre is not even close to being mined.
