I Just Saw Someone Get hit by a train

We were driving behind this couple and they just got plowed by a train...I saw an eyeball popping out of her skull we called 911 and they want a statement..im just in shock. My God life is so fragile....this is definitely one of the worst things ive ever seen in my life.
 
Get the statement done, go home, and try not to do anything. It's likely you may be in shock seeing that, just look after yourself. Take the day off if you were going into work or school.
 
Fuck, man, I'm so sorry.

The worst thing I've ever seen like that is when I was on a bus that was riding really closely with a cyclist. The cyclist fucked up and fell, and one of his legs went right under the bus. The full weight of that wheel went right over him, and the sound I heard him make is something I'll never forget. The bus immediately stopped, we all got out, and emergency services were called. The bus driver was horrified, and I can only imagine how tough that was for her, as well.

As far as the guy, man, I can't even describe what his leg looked like, except that it was pressurized skin, muscle, bone and blood. It was surreal.

I had to talk to people for a while after it happened, because it's so hard to forget after seeing something that grisly. You and the other person in your car should definitely try and take extra care of yourselves emotionally for a while. It's a traumatic experience.
 
Yeah, look into counseling if you feel you need it. My cousin saw a teenager get hit by a train a few months ago (headphones on, walking on the track) and she's still seeing someone weekly. It has helped her immensely, she was fucked up after seeing that.
 
My friend drives a train and in his first week he hit a car (not his fault apparently). I can't imagine the guilt a person feels even if they didn't have direct control. That's so awful.

Wait so were they walking or driving? Either way it's horrible and I'm sorry you had to see that. Thankfully you were there to call 911. I mean it may have been futile but at least you had presence of mind for a little when danger struck
 
Shit's terrifying. I saw a car get rammed by one of those rail maintenance/ballast-fixer cars (no crossing arms came down), but luckily it was going slowly enough that everyone stayed intact and I believe survived. Were there crossing arms/klaxons sounding or anything? Being near an active rail crossing makes me nervous as fuck.

People deal with this stuff in different ways. After the bus thing that I mentioned above happened, I called a bunch of people, because I needed to process it, and telling people about it helped a ton with that. The OP is probably doing the same thing.

...Anyways accidents are always awful to witness. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you sense any sort of PTSD happening. It's scary shit to see and you may be left feeling rough after the shock wears off. Glad you were there to call for help at the very least.
 
That's awful, OP.

I saw a kid and his brother get hit by the train near my school once. He got split in half by the train, while his brother was dragged for 100 meters. The younger brother survived, but was in a coma for months.

Why is this bothering you so much? People cope with traumatic events in different ways. Sharing this with GAF is a perfectly reasonable and healthy form of expression.

I actually wasn't junior shaming you since that's some shit I hate to see, I was quite literally pointing out the fact that he can because he isn't a junior. Sorry if it came off that way.

But I don't think sharing such a traumatic experience with a group of strangers is all that unusual. Posting it here just tells me that he needs to speak to someone - anyone - and that he'd like to have advice in return. You may not rush to post it, but why must someone else's decision to do so come off as so unusual to you, judging by the way you worded your phrase? It's not difficult to sympathize, you know. Of all the unusual things he could have done, posting on a forum he frequents is not one of them. Even if it truly was unusual, he just witnessed something traumatic, therefore he's out of his element anyway.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would do this in the same situation, but perhaps they just wanted some moral support after witnessing something so horrific?

The forum is a community, so its not unheard of that we help temper each other in times of high stress.

In my small town, there is a track that runs right through the middle and there are multiple points where there are no barriers and no lights. You're responsible for checking the tracks before driving across. I've had a couple of times where I've crossed over only to see a train about a quarter mile away.

Man, dude. That's awful. A friend had a similar experience (he saw someone who had jumped in front of a train in the NYC subway). Not going to go into graphic detail, but it messed with his head for a while.

Take it easy, go home, try to occupy yourself with something else.

Gaf is typically a good bunch of people, and people sometimes deal with grief by talking about it with others. It's as good an outlet as any, especially if there's no one around to talk to in person.
 
My house faces a train crossing and this happened last September. I saw the whole thing and naturally the entire neighborhood came out to see what had happened. Horrible sight to say the least :(

Yeah no problem man. For clarifications sake, I'm not trying to be a dick, it's just hard for me to conceptualize not giving yourself time to personally absorb an obviously traumatic before sharing it publicly

Yikes. Sorry OP, a few years ago I saw the result of a bin lorry that went out of control leaving a trail of dead bodies in its wake.

And then last year I saw an old couple run over by a double decker bus, it was such a violent impact that they were wedged into the wheel arch. I believe that they both died in hospital.

Life is precious. What more
needs to be said?
 
I've seen people get shot and stuff, but that is some next level shit.

I'll be straight up, that will be with your mind until you die.

Consider it a learning experience to how easily life can be taken.

People handle these situations differently. Some ppl call family, cry in a SOs arms, or post it online to a community they're familiar with.

Sorry you had to see something like that, OP. RIP to the victims.
 
Never saw it directly but passed many such incidents. One of the biggest mental hospitals in my region is actually close to a railway track so there are suicides almost every month there. Once when the coroners were cleaning up the place I saw the old woman living in the upper floor of the station just look down to the tracks completely unimpressed. Bet she's totally desensitized by now.

The weird thing is how the tracks facing the hospital aren't walled off but the side facing the town are.
 
Just the thought of the accident is shocking on its own. I don't even know how to react to something of this magnitude irl. Feel better OP. :(
 
Christ, that's bad. Get some counselling or something or it could haunt you forever.

My cousin saw someone get hit by a car and said she had dreams about it for years after
