Endlessly re-listenable. I can't help but smile whenever I hear it.

The movie has such a wonderful visual imagination.

Relive the agony:

Worst part of it was the
horse just standing there, apathetic, unaware of his own impending doom.

Also, remember the BIG GOOD STRONG HANDS scene?

Man, this movie was depressing. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Yeah, this was an era where kids movies really had teeth. (Though some recent films, like Coraline, remind me of it.)

Speaking of which. That wolf. That fucking wolf.

One of the best uses of
the fourth wall
ever. I loved how they adapted it for the movie to
include the audience watching
. Such a powerful scene that made my head flip.

WARNING!! End Spoiler Scene!!

Movie has a great theme song too.

Movie works on multiple levels. Bastian was a fantastic audience surrogate, especially if you watched it as an imaginative kid.

Labyrinth > Never Ending Story.

Truth.

I disagree, but you can sure make a strong argument for it either way. Throw in the Dark Crystal and you have the holy trinity of movies to fuck kids up.

Hahahaaaaa I was about to post this. Video is so corny. Fuckin limahl

Yep, best song and bestest film clip!

What age should kids really watch this before it destroys their childhood forever? I remember it messed me right up for ages.

Oh man, this movie, so many great moments.

Loved the meeting in the tower. A lot of personalities gathered together.

Too bad they dont make scary/ adventurous kids movies anymore...last ones I can think of are Coraline and Paranorma, but those just dont have the same scope as some of these movies

Turn around, look at what you seeeeeeee
In her face, the mirror of your dreeeeeeeeams

Such an awesome movie in so many ways. Blew my mind as a kid, continues to do so today. Lent a friend (30) my old VHS copy a few years back to watch it for the first time and he felt pretty much the same way.

Neverending is still good, but it also had its name tarnished with some very shitty sequels.

Labyrinth had much better songs, Henson muppets and codpiece.
The last one did have Jack Black though. That makes it memorable. But the second is really forgetful. Ironic since it's a movie about bad guys stealing the kids memories.

Both aforementioned movies are great though. Both. The Childlike Empress was my first crush back then.

neverending story only had one song. labyrinth is almost a musical. i think labyrinth rides almost entirely on bowie's performance though. the puppetry is really damn good, but the world of fantasia felt more fleshed out. the adventure took place on a grander scale.

the one thing i'll definitely give labyrinth is its ending. the ending to neverending story was great until bastion takes revenge on some bullies like a dick. labyrinth ended with a nice message of, yeah, you will eventually need to grow up, but that doesn't mean you have to always leave everything from your childhood behind.

My opinion on Labyrinth v. Never Ending Story varies on my mood. Both are so incredibly magical.

I love how the lack of CGI has kept 80's films watchable beyond mere nostalgia.

Man, don't have a screenshot but the empress showing Bastian that this grain of sand is the last remains of Fantasia is such a powerful scene/concept.

That movie pulled no punches.

i dunno man. i love me some david bowie, but the neverending story is pretty damn good.
I agree, having seen both in the past couple years. Neverending Story works in a few levels as well, and is thematically more interesting. Labyrinth has always been a series of events and scenes that sort of tumble together, but don't really build (the ending aside). And Neverending goes to some dark goddamn places, though that's really just personal preference.

Thanks for this. I've been wondering what they grew up to look like.

When it is mentioned that Moonchild is Bastian's mother's name?

Who the hell is called Moonchild.

Interesting. Falkor is actually a 'normal' dragon in the book.

I feel that luck dragons being doglike is an improvement.

Part II was alright. It was actually the second half of the book.

Yeah, I mean, it was fine. I'd probably watch it if it were on TV. But it's certainly not as fanstastic as the original. They captured the wonder of immagination SO vividly.

I mean that horse scene in the swamp. ALL OF THE FEELINGS!

Yeah, I never read the book but looking at those comparisons, it struck me as an example of budget limitations sometimes being a good thing.

Dragons are cool and all, but they're pretty ubiquitous. A gigantic, grinning, flying dog thing? Much easier to make something that strange iconic and memorable. The rest of Fantasia is so bizarre that it seemed to fit quite snugly.

No, it didn't come close to the first movie. I'm not disputing that at all. I just don't think it's the terrible dreck people are claiming it to be.

i enjoyed it when i was a kid. things that help it stand out versus the other sequels is the lack of contemporary music within fantasia, and a budget.

Neverending Story and Labyrinth are one of my favorites so full of magic :)

I haven't watched them since i was a kid i am scared to lose the magic if i see them today :(

Hey remember when kid's movies didn't give a flying fuck and creeped the fuck out of kids? Glorious times.

Coraline, where the
Other Father was left forgotten and melting back into nothing in the basement was wonderfully fucked up
. I think one of the reasons I like that movie is because in some ways it reminds me of the films I grew up on; not in terms of style but in the way it goes to some really imaginatively messed up places, for a kids movie.

How can you be 29 and not have seen this movie before. Dear God, man.

But then again, I haven't seen The Goonies. =/
