I keep running into creepers on hiking trails.

I had parked my car near a river next to a trail and place you use to launch boats. A guy enters the area in his car, drives around the area three or so times (place is deserted) then parks right next to me. He proceeds to get out of his car, start smoking, and slowly inch toward my car. I'm like fuck this and started my car and got out of there. Dude runs to his car and proceeds to follow me for 5 miles. I eventually lost him at a stoplight.

This guy takes creeper to the next level. Very scary.

My friend was hanging out in a cemetery with his girlfriend at night, when they were approached by a guy offering them free massages. They said no, and he walked away. But had that, "you know hold on one second" pause, turned around and said, "you know I really need these massages. It's for a class to become a massage therapist, and I need two before tomorrow." Friend said no and got the fuck out. We're pretty sure that guy wanted to wear their skins.

But no, j haven't met a creep while on a hike. But all my hikes have been family vacations for the most part and we stay as a group of 4.

I've always heard there were certain places random gay men congregate; it becomes "known" that a certain park/beach/whatever is a meet-up spot and so they expect there's a good chance you are there for the same reason.

Being from Seattle which is like #2 or 3 for gay population density this is something I heard about growing up; always kind of assumed the practice lessened as more legitimate gay meet up spots opened up + the internet and meet-up apps.

But maybe you happen to be going to areas known to the local gay community.

edit: I see I've been beaten badly.. I must have opened this tab ages ago lol.

I'm not that hot I'm more surprised how prevalent cruising apparently is on public trails in the afternoon.
How do you send pics from phone to site?

Now I'm kind of offended this hasn't happened to me.

I mean I suppose I don't hang out in the woods very often.

I honestly didn't even know it was a thing until I unknowingly ended up at one of those said spots and got approached. I asked a gay friend about it a few days later, he was like "Oh yeah, that park? You don't want to be in the middle of the park anywhere before noon unless you're looking for a good time."

I hike alone all the time and have never had a problem like that. And fuck creepy guy giving back rub - that's nowhere near ok. I do carry a canister of pepper spray, but that's more for animals than humans.

Seriously though OP you should probably take a buddy or someone with you next time.

Guys following you for miles after you leave is really scary.

From OP's description, those sound more like predators than creepers. I know it sucks to say this because it's not your fault but and shouldn't have to go to such lengths but you may want to carry some form of protection or partner up with someone. Those occurrences don't sound normal at all :(

Yeah these sort of stories are how I learned about it; other than the "rest stops" and "beach bathroom" things I've heard about in the news/pop culture.

There's an entire task force dedicated to trying to lure dudes into offering BJ's at beach bathrooms in Cali

I've hiked alone plenty of times, and not once have I ever been approached like that. Usually it's a family that's like "HEY HEY, LOOK OVER THERE. THERE'S A GATOR. WOOOOW!!!" or someone walking a dog without the leash being all like "Don't worry, my dog's friendly!". Normally the only people I really see are bird watchers, and our conversations never go past the friendly greeting stage.

No I'm not attractive enough.

...maybe this is why. ;_;

I hike alone all the time but it's in more rural park areas, also I start out before sunrise on weekdays when most people are working so I hardly ever seen anybody else until I'm nearly back to my truck. And I have a big dog with me (see avatar.)

Saw the tail end of a dude giving another dude a handy. They broke off as I came down the trail. Tried to play it off like they weren't two dudes in the middle of the local woods doin secret thangs.

:lol I'm curious how they attempted that. "Uh yeah dude I'd get that looked at for sure."

I had issues with this stuff at a 24 hr Fitness when I lived in a few blocks away. Eventually I just stopped going into the locker room entirely.

I'd be there at night changing for a workout in an almost empty locker room and a dude would come use the locker right next to me and start changing way too close. Another guy kept trying to chat me up in the sauna and followed me back to the locker room, then out the door, then tried to keep the conversation going all the way to my apartment building! I had to text a friend to meet me downstairs just in case he tried anything.

I told my sister about it and she said welcome to what a woman goes through and I was like "goddamn".

Yeah many hiking trails are cruising spots. There are sites like Squirt that list trails nearby in the area and people will post the times they'll be around to have fun. Sucks for people who literally just want to go on a hike

Why's it always gay guys. Why don't guys n girls ever have consentual spontaneous encounters in the woods

That sounds scary. I usually get creeped out enough if some rando says "hello" to me

Damn, is it seriously common for patk/preserve trails to be used as gay hookup locations? I'm out there all the time minding KY own business and never had an of these incidents happen to be. Not that I'm either gay or interested.

The one with the guy following the OP though, definitely something up with that one.

This guy was actually ok. He was this huge guy. When he started rubbing my shoulders I shot up like 10 feet in the air. I told him I wasn't into that and he was like all right man you said your peace. Then he left. Here is a pic of myself.

The guy that followed me in the car was definitely the worse. Who does that?

No, but once when I was out on a walk with my dog, there were these people standing around in the middle of a field dressed all in black. I mean I'd normally just assume that they were playing soccer, but it was like 9PM and there are no lights on the field and everyone was wearing black. Clearly I stumbled into the vampire soccer league.

Sorry OP. The whole cruising for other guys in the park/woods thing that is very prevalent among (usually older, non millennial) gay guys is definitely not something I ever related to.

Maybe the increased comfort of gays in this age has emboldened these folks to be less discreet.

People of all types need to respect other people and not assume they want to fuck every time you come into contact in a secluded place.

Historically? Because women and men can meet in conventional places, like bars or even their workplaces. Cruising spots are sort of relics, except for a small group of men.

It seems like there is a pretty simple solution for that then; check those sites for the times and have rangers standing by to arrest people for public indecency. I mean, it's not like you can put up security cameras in the forest.

I imagine it's probably a low priority crime for most areas.

Same thing happened to me one time when I was hiking in a kind of isolated spot one day. Some creepy dude came up to me and told me something I didn't quite hear since I was listening to music. I asked him to repeat and he just said never mind, grinned and walked away. I then realized that the place was littered with used condoms. Really disgusting to throw that shit on the ground and not put in a trash bin or something.

Yeah, it is. Most Americans don't go to parks or things like that anymore. Everyone stays inside now.

Low priority crime doesn't mean I was saying it has no effects, just that in the grand scheme of things, they have more stuff to focus on.

After all, like you said, it should be easy to bust this. But they don't anymore (used to be popular a few decades ago). Why do you think that is?
