I keep waking up at 8 AM no matter what

I wake at 5am all year round, workday or weekend, alarm or not, going to sleep early or late. I don't think I ever leave the house later than 7am. It's not a bad thing, morning is the best time of day.

My brain does the same thing. 7:30-8:00am I'm up, even if I pass out at like 2. It's nice. I like not having to deal with an alarm clock.

5:30 AM every weekday for school. I usually go to bed no later than 9:30 because I can't keep my eyes open.

Seventh graders tire you.

So this has been pretty annoying. Since November of last year, I have been waking up at 7-8 AM nearly every day due to scheduling reasons. My schedule changed like 3 weeks ago and I can sleep in a bit most days. But my body wakes up at 8 AM no matter what. I could go to sleep at 3 AM, not put an alarm on with the intent to sleep in, and I'll still wake up at 8. And the problem is that I still feel exhausted because of it. I also can't fall back asleep. It's just not happening.

Anybody else experience this? How long did it take for you to get out of this loop? I've been like this for 3 weeks now.

Try 6 am. And if my job puts me in a 6 am shift it takes me weeks to just get back to waking up at 6 again (I managed it today. I've been on a streak of 5-5:30 am).

I know exactly what you are talking about except 8 has always been late for me except in college.

I have the same issue except I wake up at 6 AM no matter what. Weekdays I have to wake up at 6 for work and getting my kid ready for school but like on this recent 4 day weekend I had I woke up at 6 everyday for no reason whatsoever. I also can't get back to sleep afterwards.

It suuuucks.

I go to sleep anywhere from 4-5 and keep waking up at 9. I end up forcing myself back to sleep for the next hour until I need to get ready for work. Usually my body doesn't let me sleep past 5 hours though.

Its not possible for me to sleep more than 4 hours straight. I will wake up no matter what. I can be up for an hour or so and go back to sleep but its been years since ive had more than 4 hours of consecutive sleep. Sucks man. Im tired all the time.

Every day. I wake up around 7-7:30 AM for work (I start at 9, alarm is at 8)... even if it's Sunday, even if I went to sleep at 3:AM, even if I'm drunk, even during 2 week holidays... This is in a pitch black room btw.

"Good part" is that I dont really need an alarm to wake up for work lol

i feel you op, my problem seems to be bad because my room is lit as fuck due to the huge ass glass wall/window even with curtains it feels like im sleeping outside

and my internal clock doesnt help either, i think ill have to try those sleeping masks posted earlier

I wake up at 630am at the latest for the past few years due to my schedule, often earlier (530am). It keeps happening on my off days just because that's what my body is now trained to do.

I work from home and have been waking up at 8:30-9:00 for a year and it has been awesome. Then kindergarten started. Now I wake up with the roosters at 6:30am every weekday, feeling it, to make breakfast, lunch and take little Johnny to school. I am not going to give up my night time activities nor will I start exercising nor will I stop looking at artificial light at night so I just will have to suffer.

TLDR, this is a stealth brag OT

^ ha yeah this too.

This happens to me, but more during the week and at 6:30am...which is annoyingly like an hour before my alarm goes off for work...almost every day :/

The only time I enjoy when this happens is on the weekend or a day off when I know I can just go back to sleep for a few more hours.

I go to bed at midnight I wake up at 9am.

I go to bed at 5am I wake up at 9am.

Why does this happen.
It could be the daylight that is waking you up.
I had crappy window blinds in student accommodation and the rising sun would wake me up at 6am everyday.

I haven't used an alarm other than just in case for a couple decades. Waking up around 5am daily no matter how late I go to bed. It's tiring if I don't sleep on time so I just force myself to sleep at regular schedule.

Unless you're a shift worker, 8 AM is sleeping in. Most adults I know and work with wake up around 6-7.
Sleeping in is relative to your schedule. To some people, waking up at 6-7 is sleeping in because they wake up at 4-5. No real point in pushing some absolute time for what is "sleeping in".

What age are you. Past your mid 30's you'll find yourself waking earlier and earlier.

Yep, never thought it would happen to me but it had started too. I slept in until 9:38 this morning. Latest I've been able to sleep in in months

It's almost as if my post said exactly that regarding shift workers.

For the average working adult, waking up after 0800 is considered sleeping in. Us military types are at work by 0730. Corporate types usually clock in between 0800-0900. We can't make a practice of waking up after we're expected at work.

If you're self employed, work shifts, or a NEET sitting in mom's basement, do what works for your schedule. In college I would sleep in until 1000 some days.

5am for me. For the time being I'm glad this is my habit as I get more out of my day but on the weekends I have to push myself to catch up on sleep, not insomniac yet but I gotta be careful.

As long as you're getting at least 7-8 hours sleep a day I think that's okay, if it's less you're gonna feel fatigue.

guess i'm lucky i can sleep in whenever i have a day off from work. i usually work at 2 am or 4 am. i went to sleep at 10 pm yesterday and woke up at 9 am. my problem is that i cant go to sleep later on after sleeping in until very late at night. at that point i might as well stay awake rather than sleep for an hour and wake up really tired.

This isnt a problem

Your body just doesnt produce enough melatonin if you're not sleeping in the dark

Go to bed earlier and stop complaining

Why are you telling me this isn't a problem? I used to sleep as long as I needed to. I worked for 10 months at a regular schedule, but now I'm off that schedule. My body is still stuck on that schedule. I already know sleeping earlier is an option. I want to get off of this schedule, not accommodate it. I'm trying to return to my old sleeping habits, not keep this one.

3 weeks isn't long enough to retrain your body to your new schedule. It'll probably take a couple of months really. You've got almost a year to untrain yourself from, it's just gonna take time.

When I switched from third shift to first it probably took me 4-5 months to readjust to sleeping a normal schedule. I'd say that is probably on the extreme side.

8am would be amazing! I am up weekdays at 5:30 to get my workout in and then get to work for 8. Weekends I still wake up at around 6:30 or so. Kids also wake up around that time or a little later. I let my wife sleep in since she's at home with 3 kids every day.

6:30 - 7:00 here. Every day, doesn't matter how drunk I got the night before. Also works from the opposite direction. If I fall asleep at 8pm, I still wake up at 7am.

If you want to pay out the ass in medical bills from poor sleeping habits...

be my guest.

Fasting is the fastest way to change when your body will sleep though. Your diet influences when you wake up and go to bed.
(dont eat for a day, go to bed on time. Get your 9 hours and get back out there.)

This is a big help with jet lag too ( ideally done before switching timezones

I've had something like this for the last few months. Gonna go to the doc soon. I wake up at 2-3AM. Fucking annoying. Even worse is even though it's dark I can't easily get back to sleep.

Force yourself to stop thinking "I'm awake now. I can't get back to sleep". Because its not actually true. The thought itself will indeed keep you awake, because it kickstarts conscious thinking. If you stop thinking like that at 8 am when you're still tired, its easier to go back to sleep.
