I know Kanye is a douche, but...

... his lyrics in No church in the wild are actually thought through.

Human beings in a mob
What's a mob to a king? What's a king to a god?
What's a god to a non-believer who don't believe in anything?
Will he make it out alive? Alright, alright, no church in the wild

I've listened to this so many times and was just like ok...
At the moment I'm studying a course called International protection of human rights, and the chapter I'm on is about the origins of our modern vision on human rights.

In this chapter it's explaining how we went from thinking the King was chosen by god (Thomas van Acquino) to Hobbs and Locke who state that we give the power to the king by social contract. To the US declaration of independence and eventually the French revolution.
And the French revolution is basically that song.
When human rights became more important in France, the fact that the King was chosen by god, got replaced by the king should do whats best for the people or we have the right to overthrow him! So that's exactly what they did, and that's hat his lyrics represent.

Long story short, if Kanye actually did write those. Dude is educated and not just some massive douche.
Granted he's a douche, but he's an educated one. Dude should get more props for this in my book.

EDIT: sharing this because cramming since 6am and no social contact so I wanted to share my personal mind blow with somebody

EDIT2:

But that's a pretty simple rhyme, and a pretty simple concept.

No one who bags on Kanye thinks he's a moron. Guy is a AAA producer, has a fantastic taste in music... but he's just a really shitty MC with weak rhymes and a really shitty attitude.

I ain't no pastor, don't do missionary
I know good pussy when I see it, I'm a visionary
I know them haters talkin', always had us very wary
Yup! On the 35th of Nevuary
Yup! You love the way I'm turnt
After all the money you earned, still show daddy what you learned
That cowgirl, you reverse that cowgirl
You reverse, you reverse, and I impregnated your mouth, girl, ooooh

Truly a genius in our time.

I was impressed about it because you don't see many (if any? I don't know) talking about a subject like that.

Like off the top of my head: Rick Ross pretends to be a drug dealer, Wale is pop music, and lil wayne is lil wayne.

I'm saying Kanye is some sort of intellectual genius I was just impressed that he took a subject like this one.

He's a talented/intelligent guy. He's also kind of insane. I remember when he first debuted, I was happy to see some more intelligent rap among the what mainstream rap has become. Then he fell off the deep end but kept making music ranking from good to okay. He's just to arrogant and insane for me to trumpet him. Still better than most gangster rap though. He's a way better producer than rapper. But here are a few more interesting quotes.

The plan was, to drink until the pain over
But what’s worse, the pain or the hangover ?

Inter century anthems based off inner city tantrums
Based off the way we was branded
Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon
And at the airport they check all through my bag
And tell me that it’s random

Crack, raised the murder rate in D.C. and Maryland
We, invested in that, it’s like we got Merrill Lynched
And we been hangin from the same tree, ever since

Makes me want to join hands and sway back and forth.

I still fully believe that douche-Kanye is a character he plays, there's no way he's actually like that in private.

This gif makes me think that sometimes. It's like he noticed the freaking camera and got back into character.

You realize how low you're setting a bar? You sound ignorant as hell if you think all rappers are just wanna be thugs and drug dealers. Listen to better music.

Either that or he almost has some kind of split-personality disorder. I've seen countless interviews/shows where he is really kind and intelligent. He still has his ego though, so maybe he had just turned it down for those.

Dude is great, and has always had clever lines. He may not be the strongest MC skill wise, but I've still preferred his brand of lyricism over someone like Eminem or Wayne especially.

Still my favorite Kanye song and most loved verse:

What the summer of the Chi got to offer an eighteen-year-old
Sell drugs or get a job you gotta play your role
My dog worked at Taco Bell, hooked us up plural
Fired a week later, the manager count the churros
Sometimes I can't believe it when I look up in the mirro'
How we out in Europe, spending Euros
They claim you never know what you got 'til it's gone
I know I got it, I don't know what y'all on
I'ma open up a store for aspiring MCs
Won't sell 'em no dream, but the inspiration is free
But if they ever flip sides like Anakin
You'll sell everything including the mannequin
They got a new bitch, now you Jennifer Aniston
Hold on I'll handle it, don't start panickin', stay calm
Shorties at the door cause they need more
Inspiration for they life, they souls, and they songs
They said, "Sorry, Mr. West is gone"

I mean come on. That's good shit.

Honestly I like arrogance sometimes. Like if you think you're the best in your field especially a competitive field being arrogant is fun. Take Richard Sherman for example. He talks it and walks it. Of course you're going to rub some people the wrong way but being the nice guys sometimes you end up forgotten. I'm a fan of Kanye and I think I would be just as outrageous as him if I had the ability to sell a $500 t-shirt to people.

Basically if Kanye isn't getting respect in his eyes then you will see him at his worst. He demands acknowledgement and will throw tantrums over it. That's a super ego.

The other part is his outbursts, but he's not exactly wrong he has them. He speaks his mind.

You seriously use Lil Wayne as a meter stick for good lyrics? Good god

You realize how low you're setting a bar? You sound ignorant as hell if you think all rappers are just wanna be thugs and drug dealers. Listen to better music.

To be fair, that kind of is what a lot of the mainstream is. The ones that aren't tend to not be as popular. Like in most genres of music, a lot of the better music is in the Indy scene.

Obviously the guy isnÂ’t as good of a lyricists as Black Thought or Phonte, but he usually has a few witty lines per verse and there are a ton of guys who are worse at rapping. He is a great musical artist.

Like a few others have said, I donÂ’t mind the asshole persona at all. He does it well.

A. Bolded doesn't make sense.

B. The man compares himself to Picasso and other actual geniuses.

From Kanye: "My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater… That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone who has done so much, and that’s a mentality that suppresses humanity…"

Ok I will, give me a list of current rappers and songs that discuss subjects like the one in this song?

thats pop music dude, he even has a song with Ed Sheeran

Topics like what? Things that you think loosely relate to middle school history classes? Or just anyone not trying to be a drug dealer like rick ross?

When the fuck did I say Wayne had good lyrics? Good god

:lol You used him and Eminem as comparisons of who he is better than. If think Wayne has shit lyrics then why make a point of singling him out as have worse lyrics? Clearly his lyrics have weight in your mind.

You don't have to be so abrasive about it. I said "a lot". Not trying to fight with you. Just discussing.

It was complete sarcasm, thought it'd be obvious from all the other threads like this. No ill will intended in my response.

No problem. Sorry for taking it that way.

Srsly you don't need to be a dick like the other dude pointed out.

You said that he's not the only rapper who raps about something than the general, gangsterrap, hustle, pretend drugdealers and pop music lyrics that have no meaning.

So show me.

From Kanye: "My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greaterÂ… That always sounds so funny to people, comparing yourself to someone who has done so much, and thatÂ’s a mentality that suppresses humanityÂ…"

That's really the only comparison? I don't follow the crap with Kanye but if that's all he says then he really does get a dumb rap from people jealous of him. That's not comparing himself to Picasso...

Meh. That's a pretty simplistic concept and rhythm and not really that creative and given that its Kanye, he probably delivered it in a way that makes the lines fall a bit flat. Kanye just isn't that great of an mc.

I used them as examples of other rappers, that's it. I never said Wayne has good or bad lyrics, I said I prefer Kanye's STYLE of lyrics over Em and Wayne. I chose Wayne because he is the epitome of a terrible, yet popular rapper, IMO.

His first two albums were absolutely great in all areas. College drop out is a classic.

Then it was all down hill from there but he's still a talented fellow, he just changed up his approach too much for me since then.

How is this bad? I mean I know he's said some dumb shit over the years but this is true?
If you compare yourself to someone great and aspire to be like them you'll achieve more than if you're happy with being not... great?

I mean yeah, he's not saying he's picasse he's saying he would like to be like him.

That's not all he says.

Kanye West said:
"I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means. I am, undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period."

The guy is an egomaniac. It is known.

abcnews said:
"No matter how they try to control you, or the m*********** next to you tries to peer pressure you, you can do what you m************. I am Picasso," Kanye said at a concert in Paris in February.

It's not bad, and what he said wasn't dumb at all. People shouldn't be negative and tell someone that they can't do something, just because what they aspire to do is incredibly great. The sky is the limit for him.

It seems we living the American dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self-esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings

We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a nigga in a coupe

Every time someone outdoes Jay on a song that personal mysteriously didn't write their part.

Except Em.
