I legit cannot play 2D games anymore

L e g i t S h o o k i n g m y h e a d

If the games good, 2d or 3d don't matter. Hell text adventures are barely dimensional and they can be good!

I'm afraid it won't tho b/c this post is in 2D and you hate that.

He probably eliminates that problem using the "Tilt 3D" plugin!

Water levels are the worst
Nuh uh! Water levels at least try an do something different. Ice ones just take the great controls an movements you've gotten used to an craps all over 'em!

Check out Volgarr the Viking, bro. Most 2D games under the indie brand are low quality and full of bad tropes, but that one is solid gold. Shovel Knight isn't bad either.
I dun play digital games cause I'm weird so those are a no go for me o.o

And 3D games do have level design. It's just 3D. This can be proven really easily if you want to make it a fight.
3D games can have 'em but they're alot harder to tell that from? At least for me anyway!

I don't know man, indies worn me out on that shit. my shit has to be 3D or I can't play it my dude, i get really bored and just cut off the game after like an hour if it's 2D man. main reason i stopped backing a lot of kickstarters. i was trying to play dust last night since i got it for free on xbl and that shit got so boring and repitive for me i can only play that shit in like 30 min intervals.

anyone else having this problem?

Play higher quality 2D games or straight up older system releases.

Having played nothing but 2D side scrollers as a child for many many years I also find it difficult to get excited about new games that are announced that are 2D sidescrollers, but then there's something like Trine that comes around and makes me really love it all over again, but I definitely can't play as many of them as I used to.

I get where you're coming from OP, you hear people saying they're tired of FPS, open world etc. yet not many people will get defensive so I don't see why this topic/genre should be any different.

They didn't say they were tired of "2D Sidescrollers" or "2D Puzzle games" or "2D RPGs" or "2D Action games" though, they said they "cannot play 2D games anymore."
The comparable to that would be someone saying they "cannot play 3D games anymore."

Yo PM me. I think my messaging system is fucked up

You have been PMed.

Congratulations: you are starting to dislike games. That's the first step.

Next: Stop playing all type of games.
ya'll aint hearing me doe >.>

I don't dislike I'm just worn on dat shit mmkay, they just feel boring even "critically acclaimed" ones. the only 2D game I can still really get into is like Super Metroid but that
s when im not sober.

You know what? I don't care if you approve of my personal tastes or not. All I did was try to explain how I feel. Keep trying to shame me and argue that I'm wrong for feeling the way I do about games. Fuck you.

you go gurl. don't let him think that that short back and forth was just some simple misunderstanding about games on the internet. This shit is serious. Sometimes you just gotta interpret things zealously to justify the reaction

Then stop playing mediocre ones that just wear you out on them.
THATS THE THING DOE!!!

IM PLAYING THE GAMES YALL SAY ARE FUCKING AMAZING BUT THEY JUST DONT CLICK TO ME BECAUSE THEIR IN 2D. THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM BEFORE BUT NOW IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME NO MORE!!

tank u :-)

There's your answer man.

Now, being serious, just stop playing these type of games for a while. If you feel the need of playing some again, cool. If not, your loss.

The only type of games that bore me a lot are open-world games. So much fucking space to explore, I don't understand how people can play these for hours. I get bored in question of minutes.

I've been playing games reccomeded to me by other Gaffers. I'm just burnt on 2D games mane.
I try to mix up what genres and styles I play to stop myself getting too burnt out on them. I recently went through a 2D platformer phase where I played a whole bunch, now I have no desire to for a while so I'm playing other things.

yeah thats prob what im gonna do. luckily destiny comes out next tuesday :3

just stick to 3D games then until you get tired of the genres that currently have appeal to you. Maybe by then 2D games will feel fresh and interesting to you again.

I've actually been having some problems playing older 2D games where the resolution is such that you can't see much real estate on screen. Particularly annoying in games with big detailed sprites. It feels claustrophobic and just plain bothersome. I mean, I grew up on NES games, but now even when I play something like Super Mario World I'm wishing I could have a more panoramic view. It looks, feels and plays better.

Overall I still love 2D games, but sometimes their nature annoys me.

that's a perfectly level-headed reaction to a two reply long relatively amicable back and forth on gaf

NeoGAF often has some awful game recommendations.

Ignore any recommendation that's an "Indie"/"Download-only" game, and then you'll actually get to some decent recommendations.
(Not saying all "Indie"/"Download-only" games are bad, but there's just so much mediocre stuff there)

What sort of games are you trying? Just curious.

Enough with this "doe" shit. Are you fucking kidding me? Take the extra couple seconds and type out the actual fucking word and stop making yourself look like you rode shotgun on the short bus.

If you can enjoy Shovel Knight or Contra IV, I dunno what to say.

EDIT: I want to say its an on going running thing from the lil b thread in off topic. I'll drop slang terms here and there, but it loses its effect when multiple posts contain it lol.

For real. oops, sorry, no colloquialisms. I meant, 'yes, I agree emphatically with this sentiment'.

After all, It's spelled 'dough.'

bunchaYou group of neanderthals.

Braid, Mark of the Ninja, and Limbo are some great 2D only download titles of recent times.

Legitimately. Its a big word.

Added fuel to a fire that already came and went, sometimes this place makes me proud.

My point is, for a quick way to elimiate a bunch of the mediocre stuff that would be "wearing him down" on the genre/style, that elimiating those types of games was a quick way to do so.

Hey, kids are spelling "though" as if it were Bambi's mom. The word "legitimately" is wayyyy too much to handle nowadays.

That's cool - my block or ignore list is growing. I just see this person is ignored and I remember they were a cliched ignorant turd to get that block

I think Obama needs to address these serious issues. Why aren't Americans enjoying 2D games?

You sure you just didn't look at SFIV in the wrong way?

There's your problem OP (not that indies are bad, well not all at least).

Play a retro classic such as Super Mario Bros, Metroid or somethin.

Cannot stand this shit, it's a huge problem in 16-bit games in particular. They really had to show off fancy, big new sprites, but at the cost of screen space.

I don't get the OP at all though. When I think of videogames, I think 2D. To me, there isn't anything more compelling than a good ol' 2D action platformer. I feel that level and encounter design is able to be much more structured, calculated, and intimate in the 2D environment.

Just take a break man. I get sick of stuff too even if its good if I expose myself to too much of it. Some people play games like Dota exclusively. I like Dota, but I can't do that. I'd get sick of it super fast cause I like my variety. Play what you want to play. Enjoy your 3D.

There is no problem, really. Play exactly what you want to play. Maybe sometime in the future after a long break from 2d games they'll pique your interest again. If not, then that's ok too. No need to force yourself to like something or justify to yourself why you don't like some games.
