This data comes in droves from PC players, playing on a console doesn’t mean you give more or less data.
In fact there are companies that track in game browsers on PC and use the data to associate games played by an individual with a tracking cookie after third party syncing. Technically there are more privacy vulnerability surfaces on the PC due to the fact people use them as tools too and store PII and other confidential data in them.

It’s naive to think that on a PC you are more secure.

I know you intended to be ironic with your post, but it's contributing to the problem.

There's a difference between mature, measured discussion and fanboy/console warring. One of the few things the "other" forum does very well is ban people who cross the line in this regard. I love NeoGaf, but I believe moderation needs to crack down on the blatant System Wars bullshit that's going on. The front page since PS5 specs were revealed has been a sea of absolute dog shit system-wars posts. Ban the children, let the adults remain. The forum doesn't benefit from any of it. And saying "LOLOLOL BUT ITS FUNNY LET ME GET MY POPCORN.GIF" is a childish response and not helpful whatsoever.

I know we're in the process of rebuilding and reestablishing the culture of the forum, let's put in the work now so the forum has the esteem and dignity it deserves. We're better than this.

i dont really fancy console wars that much. as Sony will prob turn out the winner just like other gens unless something drastic has changed.

I fancy more of the console VS PCMR wars. Man that is truely interesting to watch how console has caught up with pc gaming over the years. Dont forget the sweet spot for pc gaming is still 1080p with that new AMD 5600 or GTX 1660 with screen size of 24 inch ish. Anything higher at 1440p at 27 inch you need to go with a stronger card which is gonna get pricey.

  • Console warriors forget that the PC is king...has been and always will be, which makes the fight for distant second that much funnier.
But the funniest posts come from the PC master race special potatoes who try their absolute hardest to down play how powerful the next consoles are.

Posts like 8tflop 2070 > 12 tflop XSX and the xsx is impossible because it needs 750watt power supplies xD

Yes, we all get it, you're mad that the little plastic box has invalidated your whole computer for less than 1/4 the cost xD

Console wars are fun when it's witty back and forth, but lately, it's just been a bunch of insecure post.

It's hard to have a war when you feel bad about the other side.

The beautiful part about being a PlayStation fan is you don't have to worry about convincing anybody, getting your technical facts straight, or hurt feelings down the road.

Because Sony always wins.

Also no console wars means we would have a $699 nintendo machine still running 8 bit graphics with $100 cartridges and no online system. Oh wait, it still has none......

Or a $799 xbox or $799 ps5.

Who are you to say what I can and can not post about? You seem to think it's ok for PC master race to shitpost, but that it's not ok to respond to any of it. Your agenda is transparent. Theres NOTHING "In good fun" about console warring. Then I guess, pointing out how PC is the last place brand, is just more good fun. Why not? That's even actually funnier. The fact that PC always come in last place and yet fanboys call them "kings".....the "kings" of losing and always finishing in last place hahaha. All good fun and super hilarious

Its actually sad to see so many agree.

Honestly it shouldn't be encouraged as its just going to push the level headed and older posters away (including me).

Rational discourse with well thought out critique where necessary everytime.

PC will always be the most powerful gaming platform, "if you have the money", let's be clear here, an RX 5950XT from AMD with 80 CU's and a much bigger die on 7nm+ may be as high as 20-24TF later this year, yet you will still have PC guys like VFXVETRERAN foaming at the mouth for the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn 1 on PC which will look better than Horizon 2 on PS5.....

It doesn't matter how powerful your gaming PC if you are always asking/begging for the exclusive console games to come to it........Hardware is irrelevant, games win.....

You know OP, it is fun to watch (somewhat), until it becomes out of control, people gotten angrier, personal attacks, etc.

Look, I know it is good for a forum (website) to have constant traffict from this fanboys war.

however, please be careful. Not handling this right (too much BS war threads) will hurt your core communities. I know this because I was a mod in a local gaming forum before, it was so popular at that time...but now it is DEAD.

One of the reasons was because the core members left because they were no longer comfortable participate in the forum.

OP has serious mental issues and needs to seek professional help. Fanboyism is the reason so many industry veterans abstain from social media.

I honestly think you need help. It's clear you post on forums in hopes of seeing a dev in the wild. You're like the pathetic internet version of a starfucker.

Bullshit. Just because people may want to play one or 2 handfulls of games that are exclusive to a console, doesn't mean that console is superior to their main platform. We all want access to all games without having to pay the other system tax, don't we? We choose the option we like the best and pay attention to the games we are missing just in case they make us decide it is worth paying several hundred bucks for access to them. In reality many of the exclusives are not very different from other experiences. Some are stand outs and should be played, absolutely but Horizon is not one of them. It's worth playing, it's not something to pine for if you are PC only. There are more than enough games on PC that are great and any busy person would struggle trying to find the time to play all the great and really good ones. Same holds for any console. PC gets all the Xbox exclusives. Are you trying to say that no PS only owner wants to play some of them like your hypothetical PC person who is drooling over Horizon 2?

I hate having to have multiple systems to get access to the best games. A drawer full of controllers and a row of dusty boxes next to my TV and PC are a pain in the ass. Also if you build your own PC you get a much higher sense of satisfaction playing games than you do from buying a console. You make the tough choices on components and resist the urge to spend hundreds more than you need to, put it together yourself and get to celebrate it by playing a new game at high/max settings. With backwards compatibility. PC games who want to play PS4/5/6 games should buy at most every other PS system used and get the exclusives they wanted to play off of eBay.

I will just leave it here:

And that's even not the whole picture, if you expand each section (CPU, GPU, RAM) the reality is even more brutal. Ultimate experience indeed.

Your first 8 bullets are basically "I enjoy retarded drama" lol. To each their own I guess, I avoid console war threads like the plague. I like to play the games mostly, not argue with other nerds online about which toy they're buying and why another toy is better, certainly not deriving any enjoyment out of watching other people argue about this stuff either.

I like console wars because:

  • It's fun to watch to watch all the prissy little babies - you know, the ones who call for a more mature discourse from the gaming community - pretend they don't have their own bias.
    • It's also fun to watch these allegedly high-minded individuals pretend that companies that produce consoles aren't engaged in a war against each other.
  • It's equally as fun to watch a bunch of blowhards, with seemingly nothing better to do with their time on this planet, perform mental gymnastics as they try to convince others (but mostly themselves) that things like teraflops or SSD bandwidth don't matter.
    • Personally speaking, I can't get enough of watching people with zero technical expertise or game development chops hurl performance metrics or technical specifications at each other in defense of their plastic box of choice.
  • The forum rivalries that console wars create are also incredibly entertaining.
    • Hurt feelings.
    • Feuds that span multiple threads, leading to drive bys and blatant shitposting.
  • Console warriors forget that the PC is king...has been and always will be, which makes the fight for distant second that much funnier.

  • The various memes and GIFs, of course.

Let's face the facts: console wars are the spice of gaming life. And so, God bless you, console warriors, you beautiful bastards.
I don't care about wars. I always end up buying all of them when I have the chance. Rooting for a corporate company like it's a sports team is fucking dumb (especially if you're over 30). I only like the competition because when companies try to one up one another consumers end up getting good stuff. Apart from that, I don't give a fuck.

I think console wars are part of the nature of being on a gaming forum. I think you just have to accept it, more or less.

Another generation, another round of console wars -- arrogant pronouncements, trolling, petty arguments, all the usual fun.

I try to learn more about the tech, but the conversations are usually derailed. THat's the main thing that bugs me about CWs -- they disrupt meaningful conversations.

I don't get it. I mean, I understand it, but it's not for me.

If a great game is out on a machine I don't have or don't plan to get, I can still admire the game/machine. And if enough (exclusive) games on a particular device get my attention, I'll get that device.

Edit: And even if I couldn't afford to do so, it wouldn't make me bitter towards the company or those who do own the machine. I'd be happy that they're enjoying themselves. We're all gaming brothers and sisters imho.
