I miss Deus Ex

As much as I adore the original Deus Ex, I have to disagree with this. I can fire it up right now and play for hours and have a great time, but when I tried to get my wife into it she played for about ten minutes and just wasn't really getting it for some reason. Got her on HR and she just got it more.

The game is legendary, but I feel like it's become one of those, 'masterpiece of its time' type things, and a comprehensive remaster/remake could bring in a whole new demographic of people who simply need more updated, "modern", controller friendly gameplay to truly get invested in the game.

The remaster they showed was not the way, but a remaster is not necessarily a bad thing I think, if for nothing else than an updated control scheme.
It's about as good as its going to get "officially" to breath new life into the franchise...(the remaster)

That remains to be seen.
This is what they've published since then (this decade):
  • Elex 2
  • Spongebob: The Cosmic Shake
  • Spongebob: Titans of the Tide
  • Spellforce 3 & CoE
  • Jagged Alliance 3
  • Wreckfest
  • Wreckreation
  • Trine 5
  • Alone in the Dark (2024)
  • ReAnimal

This is on the horizon:
  • Eternal Life of Goldman
  • Tides of Tomorrow
  • Titan Quest 2
  • Wreckfest 2
  • Europa 1410
  • Way of the Hunter 2
  • Darksiders 4
  • Fatekeeper

The OG and HR were legendary, MD was ok but was lacking something, especially with the story being incomplete, the less said about The Fall and IW the better.

Fair enough. None of those are for me but they're definitely putting out consistent work now, so I guess there is hope.

It has been a long buildup over time but I think Darksiders 4 is them finally dipping their toes back into the AAA pool.

Fatekeeper looks great but I think it might be AA, which oddly works in it's favor since that's THQ's specialty.

It's a good game but man ain't no deus ex

Ppl have rose-tinted glasses b/c of nostalgia. If a Deus Ex game was made today it would try to be like Cyberpunk. Anything else with a smaller scale and a lower budget will bring unflattering comparisons. Deus Ex was good for its time b/c it was one of a kind game, but having the same gameplay today will not go over well when standards have been raised.

I recently played it about a year or so ago, and I loved every second of it. Deus ex is just a better series to me, is what it is.

I'm totally down for a new one. The last two were great.

Edit: to complete my thought, I guess I like all the games in the series, even that purple one on the Xbox, lol. I think it was called Shadow something.

This wouldn't be fixed with a remaster.

Got her on HR and she just got it more.
Which is exactly why HR remaster would be more preferable.
DX1 needs a full blown remake at this point. The original is fully playable as is, no remasters are needed, but it is a rather old PC game which was quite a bit "janky" (in a typical LGS fashion of jank) even at its release, and nowadays it plays like a relic from the past, looks are secondary to that.
IW remaster would be more preferable cause IW isn't very good from the tech point and doesn't run that well on modern systems. No such issues with DX1 (which is thankfully almost bog standard Unreal Engine 1).

A proper full scale AAA DX1 remake would be great but the franchise has cornered itself in a situation where you basically need to do a DXMD sequel prior to doing a DX1 remake and they don't have money for either of these.
Also I'm not entirely sure if I'd trust anyone but Spector or Smith to do the remake, and both have kinda moved on since then.

Love both but no lol. Cyberpunk is more of an "epic". Check out the bank level in mankind divided and get back to me. Duex ex is just 10x a deeper game than cyberpunk. Which is fine... they are both going for different things

Human Revolution was the first Deus Ex I played, enjoyed it quite a lot, but I played Mankind Divided 4-5 years later and was bored to death just a few hours in, never went back to it.

Don't know if I changed, the series changed or both, but the magic was gone.

Never understood why MD got worse reception than HR.
It's slower paced maybe? A different kind of story, less about saving the world and more about conspiracies (which is in fact closer to DX1/IW)? The one hub world design wasn't dynamic enough?
The biggest issue with MD in my book was the lack of real ending. The rest was about as good as in HR.

I see what you're saying, I misinterpreted, sorry about that. I emphatically agree with every thing you just said here.

Man....it's crazy to see one of the best IP ever created to stagnate like this.

It's just a tragedy.
