OP, Adam Sandler played a pretty large for me while I was growing up. The guy was my greatest role model.

Speaking of Jim Carrey, what happened to the dude? Makes nothing but crappy movies lately. Same with the dude from The Office.

I give Carrey a lifetime pass for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but yeah, I can't remember the last time that he was in something funny.

Well fuck me in the goat ass. Came to post this.

I think Punch, Drunk Love was his last good movie and i think it's actually his best, such a great film, same as Carey with Spotless Mind, one of my favorite movies ever.

I loved "what the hell happened to me" in high school. Remember the opening to "Funny People" with that old tape of Sandler doing his thing? When that came on screen I thought I was in for something special. Some kind of return to form or throwback to those days. While it was nothing at all like that, and I didn't hate it, I was disappointed.

I know how you feel, OP.

His earlier films (Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Waterboy) are still some of my favorite comedies of all time. It seems like he stopped trying more and more as time went on.

What is a horse shoe? What does a horse shoe do? Are there any horse socks? Is anybody listening to me?

happy gilmore still holds up

are these goals regulation size or what

It truly does. My mates and I quote Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore on an almost daily basis and rewatch the films every once in a while; they're hilarious every time.

His family movies mostly suck.
His comedies are hit or miss.
His more serious roles are usually good.

Sandler has been doing more family movies and character comedies the past 6-7 or so years which are his weakest movies. So it makes sense that it seems like he's pushing out turds. It would be nice if he balanced things out a bit more.

You all may find this odd, but this CD was my introduction to Adam Sandler. Junior year of high school, it was like oxygen.

I never really loved his movies, but found the ones I watched to be entertaining. I can't fault him for selling out, though. You wanna give me and my friends millions of dollars every year or so to make a movie filled with low-brow humor? You bet your life I'll take you up on that.

This thread is full of retardery.
Sandler has been doing the same comedies he's always done. He still writes them with Robert Smigel and other same old SNL guys he always has. You dont Mess with the Zohan is Sandler's best movie. You probably only like Billy madison/Happy Gilmore cos of Nostalgia and liked it on one level as a kid, now you dont get the other level these comedies work on as an adult

Adam Sandler plays one of two characters in every movie, a douchebag or an asshole.

That being said I still enjoy his movies, Not all are good.

"You're gonna die clown!" used to make me laugh every single time, even after seeing Happy Gilmore like 10-15 times as a kid. Thinking back I don't know why I saw Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison so many times. Must have been because my cousins were big fans.

I watched Little Nicky the other day. Still the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. How did no one tell him how insufferably unfunny that lisp / character was?

Adam Sandler is like, in love with some girl, but then it turns out that the girl is actually a... golden retriever, or something.

I don't get the hate. Sure most of his movies are disappointing but there's also like 5 pretty funny ones. It's not like all of his movies are bad.

Ben Stiller is similar. He does a lot of crap but there's a gem every now and then.

I fucking love waterboy and happy gilmore, everything after that has been meh. Click was tolerable, but only because I enjoyed it conceptually, the actual execution of it felt flat to me.

I guess the one film with Nichsolson is okay enough, not least because it has originated some of the two best .gifs.
Anything else is mostly bad, even though his movies definitely got more disgusting and shitty as time went by.
Gotta love dem redlettermedia reviews of Jack and Jill and the latest movie.

I liked Funny People.
I did too. Pretty much everything involving Sandler's character was done really well. I actually thought that movie would be like a turnaround for him, since it's almost like an acknowledgement of making a bunch of bad movies and having a sloppy career.

Of course, since then we've gotten the likes of Jack and Jill, which is almost exactly the kind of movie that Funny People was parodying with the George Simmons.

I will say that Funny People could have been way better if 30-40 minutes was shaved off of it, though. What was Apatow thinking by dragging a comedy beyond the 2-hour point?
