Prison Break - the first 2 seasons are incredible, the rest not so much

This still pisses me off. Prison Break season 1 is such a great show but after the first 5 or 6 episodes of season 2 it just turns to utter shit.

Season 4 is actually embarrassing to watch. It's like watching a live action episode of scooby-doo.

Hell effing yes.

If you want to 'get into' something where you can really analyse it and read around the themes then go for either Buffy/Angel or Battlestar. Basically, Vampires or Space. Both are incredible.

I am currently halfway through season 2 of Friday Night Lights and it's my favorite show at the moment. People told me that season 2 is terrible and season 3 is fucking amazing, so if FNL's version of "terrible" is this good then I can't fucking wait to see where this show goes.

The more people who recommend comedies and sci fi to a guy who likes The Sopranos and The Shield and the Wire and Oz, the more inexplicable GAF gets.

you appear to like serious, well made dramas. i have to suggest mad men as it fits the bill perfectly. it won't have plot twists and explosions every 30 seconds like 24 and it won't be full of AWESOMELY epic scope like LOST but i feel like you'd like it the most.

Or just watch The Wire again.

this is the other acceptable answer :lol

So because he likes all those shows he can't like sci-fi?

Lost: best tv ever

The Tudors if you like a historical setting
This. Pleasantly surprised at how good this series turned out. I believe the final season is set to start in spring.

If you want a show like the ones you listed, serious stuff, you probably should steer clear of 24 or Lost. I like 24 and love Lost but they are more action/adventure/sci-fi/suspense than serious, high-brow stuff.

I would still say check them out at some point, but you're probably not in the mood for it now.

I dunno man.

There are some seriously interesting, mature, and deep themes in Lost...sometimes.

BSG is not quality all the way through.

It takes a dip in the second part of S3, then more or less goes back up around the finale.

It then plummets in S4. With a few (very) bright spots.
Wat.

Most of season 4 is fantastic. It's only in the last half of 4.5 does it drop off in quality.

As for recommendations:

Mad Men
Friday Night Lights
Battlestar Galactica.

And while I have yet to see it either, Breaking Bad & Sons of Anarchy sounds right up your alley.

Sure, it doesn't get a proper ending, but the two seasons it got do compose a fairly complete arc. And it's absolutely positively some of the best television of the decade.

I'll give second nods to Breaking Bad and Rome too.

True Blood is so sexy.

I thought it was for women and i wouldn't like it...and it basically is...but it's still so sexy I can't get enough of it.

any suggestions? i want something 'serious' (ie no comedies, i have curb and seinfeld for that) and preferably at least two seasons long. stuff i have seen and loved:

the wire.
oz.
the sopranos.
band of brothers.
the shield.

stuff i hated:

heroes.

halp!

Judging by your tastes, I'd go with Mad Men. Should be down your alley.

I'd also suggest Californication as a personal favorite (it's about a novelist who's suffering from writer's block). Both are three seasons long with more to follow.

This shit is too good. I thought it would be some lame twilight shit and got it for my wife. We both watched the entire box set in 2 days, goddamn the show is good and has a lot going for it.

Friday Night Lights.

Says you. Season 4 has some of the best episodes of the show and a lot of my favourite moments, its probably not the best overall, but dismissing it would be doing yourself a big disservice in my opinion.

The West Wing never gets fair recognition on Gaf. Watch that shit, everyone. it’s amazing

It is awesome and right up there with The Wire, Mad Men, Sopranos for great TV drama. it kicks ass.

the less spectacular 5th through 7th seasons are still better than most shows on the air.

Battlestar Galactica
Just about to finish season 2 and the show is amazing so far. Don't know why I never watched it when it first came on TV.
