That one is just okay though.

I'm being serious when I say you should just look through pictures of men's clothing catalogs and shit. Of course, it doesn't mean you need to get those specific items, but it gives you a sense of what kind of materials and styles to put together.

At 24 I felt like I needed to find my wardrobe identity, I wear a mixture of clothes, cheap Walmart shirts and jeans, and some hand me down clothing from highschool.

I want to look better, which also involves losing a little weight, but part of that is buying, higher quality, and good looking clothes. Thread subbed

Avoid GAF fashion threads. They will lead you down a hole of looking like an internet weirdo that just stepped out for the first time.

Well, you know all the mannequins in the retail stores?
Try match your clothing like that. Give or take a little bit for little more conservative, not too hip look.

Mimicking is one of the easiest way to learn. Pay a little bit of attention on someone else' clothing and their style, head to toe. Mimic them.

Finding your style is a process. It's not something that you should try to change overnight, though obviously recognizing that you want to change in the first place is a big step. I would recommend browsing r/malefashionadvice for a few weeks. Then you might want to start posting to get some feedback on your current clothing and where you could go from there. A lot is dependent on your body type, your day-to-day environment (work/school), and what kind of message you want to send to others.

I'm 27 and I wear jeans, skate t-shirts and sports team hoodies. I know I need to dress better but I just find it hard to care

Nobody really cares what kind of style you have. Its mostly self-conscious dudes throwing money away.

If you are wearing decent clothes that aren't the height of fashion, no potential mate of any real worth is going to see it as a red flag. If they do, that is their red flag being thrown up.

I've been obese my whole life so I've never bothered trying to look nice and always just bought whatever's black and big but I'm nearly 50lbs down so I've been thinking about clothing lately and I have no fucking clue about fashion but I'm really looking forward to buying a new wardrobe when I lose all the weight.

keep it simple, wear basics. oxford shirts go with everything, for example.

and wear clothes that fit you. like really fit you. that's like 90% of the battle, I feel like.

Yea I was gonna say a oxford, nice jeans or chinos, and some desert boots and you're already looking better than the average Joe just by trying a little bit. I like to stop at places that offer local brands even if you have to pay more because the people wont let you leave wearing their stuff looking like shit cause they are proud.

my usual go to is jean, sneaker and plain black shirt lol. I'm very boring when it comes to fashion. Luckily in hawaii most people couldn't care less. Shorts and flip flop is king here

I think I have some decent clothing. I usually shop at JCrew, Armani Exchange or Calvin Klein. But I don't really dress in a "style". I just throw random things together, and it never looks good and feels out of place. And I think I ruin whatever I wear by putting cheap hoodies over top. I don't know how people do it; I don't have a penchant for good styles. Any advice?
Get rid of everything you hate, hit up tumblr YouTube gq whatever and find shit you like. Thankfully it's 2014 so getting shit that fits well and looks cool (taste depending) is very easy now.

Find a few harmonious colors you like that suit your complexion, build a list, and slowly pick away at it.

Oxford collar button down shirt (try Uniqlo)
Chinos (Dockers alpha or modern khakis)
Boots (Clarks Desert Boots)

Basic staple outfit that will look good on pretty much everyone. There's a reason so many fashion places recommend starting with this outfit.

OP the reason you wear that stuff is because you went to some forum asking for advice back when you were wearing levis, volcom, and skechers. They gave you some generic answers safe answers and you just substituted one thing for another. Now you got jcrew stale wardrobe syndrome.

It's happening again here. People are giving you stale, safe, and plain advice. What you need to do is go for unique and interesting style. Wear stuff that other people are too afraid to wear. Be adventurous and bold in how you present yourself to the world.

My suggestion would be to consider something like this gown coat. It's comfortable and pushing the boundaries of fashion. It's also 100% wool and made in italy so you are sure of the quality and craftsmanship.

Don't fall for the same mistakes and follow the herd by buying uniqlo shirts and clarks boots like every other automaton. Be your own man.

I need shoe ideas. I basically only wear athletic shoes and I really, really don't like the look of any of these "casual" shoes I see on websites. I normally wear jeans and tend to prefer the darker (not super dark, just not the really light kind) denim color. My athletic shoes are black, but apparently that's a no-no.

I really like dark brown double monks with darker jeans. I think double monks are the best shoes around if you are just looking for one pair. You can wear them with casual looks and with smarter outfits.

Everything on this page (though I guess Amazon calls these fashion shoes)

Looking around, it looks like Oxfords are the only kind of non-athletic shoe I like. But even then a lot of them I don't like. I kinda like this one, but I fear buying brown shoes. Oxfords also look pretty uncomfortable as far as the sole goes.

I don't know why you would fear buying brown, it is the most versatile colour around.

also, those shoes are horrible.
