I never grew out of Bad Religion.

Bad Religion is timeless, well they kinda ran thier course with the later albums but they are still pretty solid...Generator is my favorite song of all time! Some of my favorites are the ones no one ever talks about tho, like Better off Dead, Sanity, 2 Babies in the Dark, Cease (no song get me more emotioinal than this one)

Part of the charm of NoFX was their music was supposed to be shitty and retarded. Kind of like a successor to the Descendents, or maybe a more credible blink-182(even though I love blink).

That's true. Speaking of Blink, the first time I ever heard of them was when they opened for NoFX at the Masquerade in Atlanta sometime in the nineties. I remember thinking, "Holy shit, this band is fantastic." and like a year later they were all over everywhere.

Best Blink album.

I still love Lagwagon, and they were my favorite band in high school. They're not as silly as NoFx, but the lyrics aren't exactly deep either.

Lagwagon is great. Despite listening to all their albums far too much back in high school and college I can still listen to and enjoy just about any song of theirs.

The same can be said for a lot of stuff by nofx, bad religion, etc. but they also have more than a few songs that don't replay well over the years.

I'm pretty disappointed that I put The Decline in my playlist for the ~9 hours of driving I did over the last week and it never came on.

I don't see Bad Religion as a "growing out of" band. Bands that are fixated on adolescent experiences are the bands you grow out of. But just because a band is aggressive or angry, doesn't make it inherently juvenile. Bad Religion is a little preachy, but other than that, I love them. Against the Grain (the album) is so awesome: science-focused lyrics, and great melodies.

I never really got into Bad Religion as much as I tried, but Rust in Peace is still the greatest album ever created, right alongside Among the Living and Seasons in the Abyss. All other music was made to suppress mankind and put our minds in little boxes of fuck.

I won't argue with this. Thrash metal is fucking awesome. I'd put one of Metallica's early albums in that list though.

Bad Religion will always remind me of the best times (thus far) of my life. Being in high school on road trips at 2AM singing as loud as I could with friends, and trying to hit all the vocal harmonies. So good.

I'm back and forth on their new stuff, but it's definitely comfort music for me. And now due to this topic, I'll be on a binge of their music for the rest of the workday.

Also, i'm glad to see so many GAFfers with good taste in this thread!

I haven't grown out of punk in general, seeing as many like to pride themselves on not liking punk anymore I think It could apply, Mission of Burma and Wire are some of my favorites.

Never listened to Bad Religion actually, but I still like 2 Misfits albums if that better fits the "never grew out of" bill ( Static Age, Walk Among Us)

Shit, when I hang out with my best friend from high school, we'll still crank up the BR and try to hit the harmonies. Good fucking times.

Never listened to Bad Religion actually

... how is this possible?

You don't grow out of bands you like, you just go through phases where they might not be on your radar, till you come across a cd or something and suddenly it's 5 hours later and you've been jamming to Marshall Tucker Band all afternoon.

No one should have ever listened to Anti Flag in the first place tho
I agree

Its one of those situations where I got into punk and everyone and their mothers told me that Bad Religion worked as a gateway for alot of people, and for some reason I just avoided them completely.
Well quit fuckin up and listen to them. They have so many different albums and their sound changes over time. Check out No Control, Stranger Than Fiction, or Empire something to get an idea of what you like. But I would start with No Control

Bad Religion, the Fat Wreck Chords' bands and other stuff from my teenage years won't go away. They still are my go to when I'm drunk and start annoyingly youtube-shuffling.

21st Century Digital Boy and I Want to Conquer The World are my most played from Bad Religion.

Other ones like this and what I can listen to the whole cd are stuff like the before mentioned Drunk in Public and Leche Con Carne.

I listened to No Use For a Name's Live in a Dive this morning. Still one of the best albums of all time. The part with Tony Sly going, "Yeah, you're right... it IS Redemption Song. Good Call, man. Good call." still makes me crack up. RIP, Tony. :-(

they released a tribute to tony sly album and it was pretty good

NUFAN is great. I actually went to a concert of theirs in SF the year they recorded the live album, but I don't think it was the one they recorded.

Are you from California then? I got a chance to go to San Diego when I was 18 or 19 and it blew my mind how big the punk scene was there. I mean, you heard all the Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph bands on the RADIO. When I was a teenager in Atlanta we had to get our mom to drive us to Criminal Records in the city to buy a compilation CD for us to discover new bands.

Why would anyone grow out of Bad Religion? They're actually good musicians with lyrics that go beyond the usual cheese ball high school nonsense.

Also True North was a pretty awesome album, much better than the Dissent of Man which felt like them just phoning it in.

Loads of old 90's punk bands fit this description for me. Listened to them religiously up until the early 00's and stopped for some reason. Got back into them in the past few years though and love them as much as I used to.

I'm immature for liking fuzzy guitar distortion and fast drumbeats.

Nice thread, I had all but forgotten about this little band.

Their CDs were frequently in my little Aiwa boom box.

Time cannot diminish http://youtu.be/T-s5pP2aTiY

As one of my friends said - those dudes have way too many syllables to fit into their songs.

Bad Religion got me into punk in the mid 90s got me into punk and Generator is one of the best punk songs I've ever heard.

This however is the best punk album of all time.

The Lawrence Arms (among many others) would like a word.

Maaan. I got a bunch of Lawrence Arms when I first inherited my brother's old ipod back in high school and I loved it. But somewhere around apathy and exhaustion I started to not like their stuff as much. "hey what time is pensacola wings of gold on" is my jam though.

Dood, Apathy & Exhaustion and Oh! Calcutta! are the best. Especially Oh! Calcutta!

People need to stop listening to shitty 90s skate punk and start listening to awesome modern punx like all these bands I'm linking

I listen to a lot of really whiny punk and ska. Like, angsty songs about breaking up with girls and going to the beach. Wavves, Reel Big Fish....

I don't think there was a point in my life where I have ever related with any of this music, but I can't get enough of it. It's awesome.

"Are You There Margaret? It's Me, God." was my favorite off of that album. And Apathy and Exhaustion wasn't that bad, I think there's just a few songs off there I don't like and they always sour the album for me. It's typically songs sung by the guy who doesn't have the gravelly voice.

Nah man, BR is okay to like still.

I do kinda like Screeching Weasel and The Queers still, no matter how hard their manbaby frontmen try to get me to stop

Anti-Flag is fantastic live. I've listened to those dudes since I was probably 10 years old and I still love their music

Yeah, for sure. They may be like super duper preachy and whatever but they can put on a killer show

True story: Greg Graffin's father taught one of my college English courses and on the last day of class, he bought us pizza and we watched a video of Bad Religion playing "Sorrow" live.

He also has a shirt that says Dad Religion in his office. Great guy.

I still listen to BR all the time. Generator is one of the most fun songs to sing ever.

Odd choice of song considering that it's not one of Greg's.

You should YouTube "the guy from subway arrogant sons of bitches". It's certainly up your ally. I'd do it but I'm on phone

ASoB are one of the only ska-punk bands I like.

And it's 90% because Jeff Rosenstock's a total dood.

Their cover of My Iron Lung is awesome. All their Radiohead covers are way better than Radiohead proper.
