I really wish Valve would publish and secure AAA exclusive content for Steam

Why are people so hung up on exclusives ? Are they so insecure about thier platform's future that they need to deny stuff to people outside of it in order to secure its survival ?

Its so fucking weak.

Why are PC players bringing that nonsense to the discussion? Steam is a storefront. PC is a platform. Rampant loyalty to a store is weird.

That don't change what I said.

You can't even call Aperture Desk Job or Hand Lab "games".. they're more like experiences. So the last game was Mar 2020. 6 years ago. Deadlock hasn't released yet.

It's an in-development, unreleased, Steam-only game 🤷‍♂️

No thanks, artificially limiting where a game can be played is bad.

They should put maximum focus into the store itself, better to have a store for thousands of games that isnt shit rather than take away games from others.

If Steam were to make more games and you could only play them through Steam, I don't think that would really be taking games away from others, which is what I'd call Sony and MS fighting each other by moneyhatting stuff.

Is it necessary, do they need to do it? Not really. But if they made, say, HL3, and you could only buy it on Steam, no PS5 or Xbox release, I say that's no harm no foul.

Valve has a monopoly on PC and they're not a publicly traded company. So honestly I don't think Gabe cares enough to invest billions of dollars into game development on a regular basis. Steam users also don't demand that of Valve. They're happy just playing any game on Steam.

I don't wish for steam to secure exclusives but I do wish they'd actually make games that aren't GaaS. I have my fingers crossed for HL3.

It is funny to see the responses in this thread. "Valve should not do exclusives." I agree. But when it comes to consoles, "WE DEMAND EXCLUSIVES!!!"

Valve make a game exclusive to Steam? Steam is available on Windows, Linux, and Mac, and now seemingly Android and one purchase is good for all platforms. Who would they exclude, they don't do single player games or consoles (anymore) anyway (as far I am aware).
Forgive me if I am misunderstanding the OP.
Do you think Valve is developing Half Life 3 for Xbox, Playstation and Switch? That never occurred to me.

Nah I would rather have them put that amount into improving the store. If the team wants to make a game then that's fine but they shouldn't be forced to do it because of exclusivity. That's dumb.

No thanks, exclusivity sucks. As a PC player, it does absolutely nothing for me when peasants can't play certain games. I doubt it really benefits anyone besides Nintendo and console warriors anyway.
