I regret playing Witcher 3 at launch

I don't regret it all. Yes there were some issues on the PS4, but still this game is GOAT, could not turn me off.

I just beat the base game last night. I started playing at launch and made it as far as Novigrad before stopping because my tv died. After I fixed my tv I was sidetracked by Batman and a bunch of other games. I just recently got back to it, and became hooked. I've been playing every night for over a month and just finished. This is one of the best games ever made, no question. The amount of content, attention to detail, the story, the music...holy balls this game is great.

The ending I got was, in my opinion, the best possible ending. I'm not sure what others there are but mine was beautiful. I was sad to see it end. Thankfully I can go "?" hunting and do the two dlc expansions. The missions for them have been sitting on my quest log for a while, and now I can attack them. CDPR has created an absolute masterpiece.

It performs better, looks better, has a better UI, quite a few less bugs and is half the price. I just don't see any compelling reason to pick these games up on day one. Avoiding spoilers maybe?

Performs and looks better? I guess if you play on console. As a PC player, I haven't noticed any difference. Yeah, it has a better UI and less bugs, but none of that is a game changer.

My point is that this isn't a Ninja Gaiden 3 upgraded to Razor's Edge scenario. The Witcher 3 has a bit more polish all around, but it's still exactly the same game that released a year ago.

And yeah, there's zero benefit to buying games day one. It will always be cheaper and likely be fixed up in the future. That applies to all major game releases as far I am concerned.

I love the Witcher 3 as much as the next guy, but it pains me to see how the game has improved so much after I got done with it early on. I don't really have the time to replay it, but I fired it up to check out the updates, and the UI has just improved massively since I played, and they have addressed just about every issue I had with it which would have made it much more enjoyable for me. Throw in all the bug fixes, frame rate improvements, etc. and I'm a bit sad I didn't get these benefits. :(

Late comers win like usual! lol

You're supposed to play through the witcher 3 twice everyone knows this. Same for the mass effect trilogy.

Kinda off topic but was the game's time played counter broken at anytime? I had the game since launch and when I started up Blood and Wine this year it said my total play time was 450 hours...

For the love of God please let that be a glitch

I don't regret playing it at launch because I just replayed it a month or so after HOS and it was as awesome as ever.

The original leak said Aug 27th, IIRC.

I think you're right, but I haven't heard anything recently. This is the first GOTY edition of a game I've been super interested in so I don't know how early GOTY editions get officially announced before release.

Yeah, it has a better UI and less bugs, but none of that is a game changer.

Having a better UI is a game changer. Witcher 3 is an RPG so you will be spending a good part of your playtime looking at the UI.
Comparing weapons and armor, crafting gear and potions, buying and selling, looking at the map and quest log, ...

At release, when you found a note you had to go into your inventor, to the right tab and find it amidst a dozen other notes, books, bombs and potions.
Every. Fucking. Time.

Not you press one button. For me that's a major improvement in a 100 hour game.

It was a 10/10 game then and it's even better 10/10 now.

I don't regret playing it at launch for a second, especially as most developers would have just left it as is. All of the improvements made by CDPR are just a bonus.

I actually started playing it a bit early this year before the UI changes. I really didn't like the way the menu was set up on PS4 back then either, and this coming from a guy who just finished Divinity: Original Sin on PS4. Pain and suffering to inventory management to all who play that game...why oh why is there no way to scroll to the bottom of the waypoint system menu! Anyways I look forward to restarting it now that the UI has been much improved since I didn't get very far.

Did they fixed ahving to repair the gear and weapons all the time?

Did they fixed how hard is to get money or orens to fix gear and weapons?

I loved experiencing the game at the same time that the rest of the people. Discussing quests, mechanics and items as they were discovered was pretty cool.

Improvements have been great but to be honest can't remember any real issues at launch that affected my enjoyment of the game. I'm playing it on PC for what is worth.

Yeah, if the new UI had been in there from the start I would actually have used bombs and oils etc. Instead it was such a hassle I turned the difficulty down to normal and ran a signs build that wrecked everything in a couple of hits.

Playing death march now a year or so later and it's a much better way to enjoy the game.

I was in the same boat. Playing through the DLCs now. Hearts of Stone was great, and I like Blood and Wine even better than the main game. With UI overhaul and performance improvements it's just perfect.

I don't "regret" playing it at launch, but I do think it's a better game now. I played through it on PC back when it first came out. I did stop playing for a while when I heard they were adding stashes in an update, I think I held off playing for a few weeks. Also: waiting for the God-damned
Skellige's Most Wanted
quest to be fixed was infuriating, but I still think it was a great game and I really enjoyed it when I first played through it.

I got distracted while playing Blood and Wine though, so I need to actually go back and finish that soon.

I've come to regret playing The Witcher 3 before reading the books. I just got through The Last Wish and it's actually really great. I'm usually pretty wary of translations, but this one was actually great. I think I probably would have appreciated The Witcher 3 a lot more if I had waited.

Even taking the dips in performance here and there around launch time, it was still an absolutely incredible game. Nothing would have really changed for me.

Feel the exact same way. I've had it since launch, just recently bought the 2 expansions and still haven't made it to them yet. Haven't finished the man story yet. This game is huge and I love it.

I played the first one around the time when Witcher 2 came out. Haven't even started 2 properly. When I'm done with that one, I'll see if W3 already has an enhanced edition out so I can get it.

I played through it at launch, and then put it on the shelf until both DLCs were out. Then I did my NG+ on Death March and played through the DLC in that playthrough. Was phenomenal both times. Great game.

I played it non stop at launch and completed nearly all side missions before the final few but then stopped due to other games. Went back to it a few weeks ago and felt so lost I couldn't remember so many things.

Neither is too bad. I don't think I've bought many repair kits, just found tons lying around. Likewise getting money is easy as long as you remember to haul back all those crappy swords and armor as they are what net you the most dough.

The start of the game and during the DLCs are really the only places where you have real money issues but it's not too bad either. If you're low on money just continue quests and sell loot or go do some sailing and trawl those caches. The money you get from contracts is ridiculously low though.

I think is bad when Im in the middle of a quest and on the boss my swords gets broken with no way of repair them, it happened to me on the first wild hunt boss on some caves when you are with a lady wizard companion.

Pissed me off.

I wish I hadn't played it at launch. I absolutely hated the controls and combat. I just returned it. I'll try it again one day though. They changed the movement on consoles as well, right?

You guys have convinced me to replay this, with the DLC. It's just so good. The GotY edition will be mine, when it's discounted. lol

There's an alternative movement mode in the gameplay options, yes.

When The Witcher 3 came out, I finally started playing The Witcher 2 on 360. It was a great experience, and when I was ready to start playing 3, they had patched in the "alternate" movement. I'm glad it worked out that way for me.

Yeah, launch version had som bugs, but nothing could have stopped me playing til the end. Such a fantastic game and I praise CDPR for W3 and the post support they've been showing.

Yeah, I got a platinum at launch, so anyone saying it's an unplayable mess is basically lying.

This current trend is the reason why I have stopped buying games at launch in general, unless there is significant preorder discount.

It's even more true for mechanically complex games like WRPGs- a reason why I will be purchasing Cyberpunk 2077 at least 1 year after its launch (plus the fall in price doesn't hurt either).

I beat it and enjoyed it as well, but Gwent on PS4 was unplayable due to the game crashing if you skipped a turn.

I was unaware there was a GOTY coming so soon, I'll wait for that.
