I remembered that The Following is literally the worst television program that I saw.

I sat through the entire season. All of Season 1.

And I was sitting here today, and all of a sudden, I had a Vietnam style flashback of the torture that was The Following.

The show is just vile and disgusting and pointless and so, so dumb. The cops on this show make the cops on Dexter look like Sherlock Holmes. And what really got me, was that the makers of this show were so excited and happy that they consulted the FBI on this show.

IF THIS IS HOW THE FBI OPERATES, I AM NEVER GOING TO AMERICA.

This show could easily be retitled Cop Genocide and be totally accurate.

This is a show that took some great actors such as Kevin Bacon, Natalie Zea, and James Purefoy and completely squandered their talents.

This is a show so awful, that it ruined Edgar Allen Poe for a generation.

This is a show that is so pointlessly grotesque and vile, that it makes me wanna believe those moral family values people who bemoan violence and sex on TV.

AND IT GOT A SEASON 2, JESUS.

Had lots of potential and quickly became a parody of itself. The ending was entirely predictable, and sadly the set up for season 2 was all too obvious (and outlandish).

I want to watch the next season just to see how they explain what happened (if they even bother).

Better than Hannibal.

The most incorrect and therefor worst first post in NeoGAF history.

You got through an entire season??? Damn, I couldn't get past episode one...The whole premise was dumb as fuck.

1. The serial killer is (naturally) a brilliant man...because who ever met a stupid serial killer, right?
2. He is so brilliant, he can convince people to do his bidding from behind bars and nobody is monitoring what he is doing because he is just so damn charming! How could he do wrong...look at his eyes! They are so dreamy!!!!
3. The woman-victim is a woman...and a victim, of course.
4. The "grizzled" FBI agent is very grizzled and totally in love with the serial killer's wife.
5. All gay people are accomplices to kidnapping and murder.

Seriously fucking stupid...does it get better? Because that first episode was pure and utter shit.

best-worst show on tv. drop whatever you are doing and watch episodes 9-12. mindblowing.

Mindblowing, in the sense, that your brains will be leaking out of your ears by the time the credits roll on Episode 12.

And then it goes on for another three episodes.

It gets worse.

I genuinely thought that maybe there was serious promise after the pilot. It could have been an interesting, twisty thriller.

But it got so much worse.

show was torture porn. to my eyes and brain.

went from loving purefoy and bacon to being weary of whatever else I'm seeing them pop up in.

impossible to underrate how bad it was. not even the internet is up to that challenge.

on the bright side, i made my wife watch scream 4 after the season, largely to get her reaction when that gay killer on the show shows up. let's just say my expectations were exceeded.

i said to myself (earnestly) during the season "wait, this is from the writer of scream. this is absolutely a hyper-real satiric take on tv serial killer violence."

nope.

first season is like 15 eps , the last 5 are pretty drawn out , they could've been ..2 eps not 3 and then they could've moved on to the second season. first half of the show is aight though.

Yeah it was pretty bad. I kept watching, hoping it would get better, or at least have some mindblowing finale, but nope.

My mom has been telling me to watch it. I got her into Breaking Bad, and now she's like "you should totally watch The Following, the quality level is similar!"

This is a woman who gave Van Helsing a 9.5/10 btw

I got in around episode 8 and gave up. The writing was so freaking cheap. Oh, em, gee, now they got them! Nope,
surprise cult member up in this bitch.

it started with such potential, then it delved into "just how unbelievably stupid can we make the FBI?" Coupled with just pointless episodes.

Still better then almost human

I think I was genuinely entertained by the first 2-3 episodes, and then the next 2-3 were boring, and then I stopped watching. Looks like I missed quite a thrill ride.

I bailed out halfway through the first season. I'm with you; I couldn't get past how absolutely stupid the cops were.

I also watched the entire first season. Quite possibility the biggest waste of time I spent ever watching TV.

I think I got to about the third or fourth episode before quitting, it was after they raided the house the son was being held in but it turned out that the fucking serial killer dude had a cop on the inside working for him and they escaped with the boy. At that point I decided FUCK THIS SHIT, and never looked back.

I never knew you could make James Purefoy look like a bad actor with his spectacular performance in Rome, but this show fucking did it. I couldn't take his character seriously in anyway, who thought that giving him that retarded accent was a good idea?

It makes everyone in the show look so bad.

I really love the show, because sometimes they buy ads on Hulu and the ad announcer guy will say "The following is brought to you by The Following" and it makes me laugh.

I've never seen an episode though. I hope they keep buying ads.

Oh man, I'm sorry for my shitty taste. I can't explain it. I usually like stuff that is not universally panned, but I'm not trying to be contrarian or edgy at all I swear. I genuinely enjoyed it more than Hannibal. I really like James Purefoy since Rome and have always had a soft spot for Kevin Bacon. On the other hand I kind of dislike Laurence Fishbourne and Hugh Dancy. I will admit Mads Mickelson was good though. But on the whole I enjoyed The Following more.

You could pretty much be describing any episode. Every episode seemed to involve a fucking mole for the cult.

I watched The Following, Hannibal, and the last season of Dexter, (bleh) this year, but the best serial killer procedural thing I saw in my opinion was The Fall on BBC.
