I see my job posted on craigslist

so how do you propose we all have a decent living and society without people working?

Get rid of the superfluous jobs that are not necessary, i.e. advertising, public relations, sales etc. All the shit that is not necessary to maintain basic fundamental requires of human sustainability goes. A telesales or bartending job for instance does nothing to sustain the human race. The vast majority of jobs are useless like these. They exist only for the delusion of 'full' employment, an unachievable and unnecessary goal.

The means of production should be automated as best as possible within the current bounds of technology. It has been estimated that between 70-90% of all meaningful, worthwhile jobs, that is things like food production, construction and so forth can be entirely automated using present day technology.

Those who contribute such as technicians that maintain automated systems, doctors or engineers or artists and musicians should be rewarded for their contributions. All those who do not work should be paid a basic living wage in order to buy food, maintain shelter, buy clothes etc.

Inability to see alternatives to the current system is a failure of imagination.

Apply for the job, add to the top of your cover letter/resume that you are interested in a new job because your current boss is an asshole.
This is good. You shouldn't be using a place you've only worked at for a month and have had only a few shifts as a reference anyway, so who cares what he thinks of you. He sounds like a dick anyway.

Work harder in your next job. Not trying to be an ass but as an employer, I don't fire hard working staff

Yeah, no one is going to argue that point for sure.

I hear ya, monkey butlers for everyone.

(Also I know some bartenders who derive great satisfaction from their work. Why would you imagine taking that oy away from them you cruel being?)

I haven't figured out what part of this post is most ridiculous yet.

If you think those are enough you haven't stepped outside.

If someone is born disabled they'll never be able to effectively support themselves on disability payments alone, for example.

the idea is that they should be able to not be homeless because of them.

whether or not that happens is an entirely different issue, and it mostly comes from people saying that people in those situations are "lazy" or whatever.

wasn't even going to post in this thread but lulz

Under this amazing idea we would not have room for art, games, etc.

I love this idea where we're just going to force people out of their "superfluous" jobs so we can all work under the government. Can't see where that would go wrong!

what am I reading. automation is already on its way, and bartending and telesales people are simply fulfilling demands by society. living only for survival is a sad life.

Jobs exist because there is a demand for them, not some mandate for full employment. Some people enjoy the friendliness and contextual understanding that a bartender or salesperson provides (and it can encourage sales) more so than a vending machine.

Oh also guys, paile is a 9/11 truther. Use that info as you will.

That sucks because I actually agree with his stance regarding employment and it kinda makes me feel dirty for doing so. I think requiring people to have jobs to have a decent living creates a cut throat society that is worse for everyone. Especially the disabled and poor.

You don't have to feel dirty. Just understand were he's coming from, he's a little out there.

Cutthroat society dates back way before job markets. Existence is competition. Human beings are no exception to that. Until the magical fairies (or automated farmer robots, in this case, it would seem) start to fly us all free food from the Caves of Infinite Plenty, people are going to need to do work and exchange the products or wages of that work for the necessities of life.

I am of the opinion that a living should not have to be earned. So here we have the O.P now struggling to find a new slave master in order to survive because the last one fucked him over.

This has been my experience many a time. Can you tell I'm bitter about it?

you got laid off for sniffing the boss's panties, didn't you?

They're already forcing art and music out of schools as "useless" so why not force it out of society too? Being mindless living drones doing nothing but getting money handed to us by the government and eating and then saying doubleplusgood is certainly my ideal future.

One day it is going to dawn on people that employment = slavery.

One day.

I only wish I realized this before becoming a PA at a childrens hospital. The smiles of those patched up kids feel like the sting from a slave masters whip.

lol, I would love to see more of paile's list of real jobs. What does our anime loving dictator consider "serviceable art." I'm so glad we finally found the one person who can judge if your job contributes to society or should be abolished.

Slow down there, champ. How about some sources for that massive claim?

I was with you until I read this. Ludicrous, you would be fostering a super plutocracy.
But I agree with you, our current job culture is kind of savage.

Did you have a signed contract OP? Take him to court. I don't know how it works in the US, but he owes you a compensation for firing you, at least that's how it works in my country.

Just love how my opinions on completely unrelated events get brought up to denigrate me.

My opinions on others matters are irrelevant in the context of this thread. Doesn't surprise me though.

That's why social services/safety nets like welfare, unemployment, disability and social security exist. Without "jobs" nothing would happen. Nobody would grow food, make clothing, build houses, make video games, etc. And if you made it so that you could have a comfortable living (~40k/year) without having to work, there's not much incentive to work anymore and society wouldn't progress. If you feel smart people would be doctors, engineers, policemen out of the goodness of their hearts then I'm afraid you're naive.

An imagination like Hitler, Stalin, or Mao. All we need is someone to tell us what jobs we should be doing.

If they were only smart like paile then there would be no problems! So would religion be enforced or abolished in this world?

. If you feel smart people would be doctors, policemen out of the goodness of their hearts I'm afraid you're naive.

You know some dedicated doctors and policemen.

Seriously can't see any other way forward soon, without a living salary paid by states. In the next 20 years alot of jobs will vanish with the next line of automation.

That's why social services/safety nets like welfare, unemployment, disability and social security exist.

Those don't pay nearly enough for someone to effectively support themselves. They're not enough. If you're going to make employment a requirement for decent living, you need to make employment a guarantee for anyone willing to work, and you need to make sure every job pays enough to live comfortably.

So can you please not talk about those other things and tell us more about your imagination?

paile, how exactly are workers rewarded if everything is automated and "costs" the same? There shouldn't be such things as nicer food, clothes, etc. right? Or if those things exist, the workers that provide those should also be rewarded, right, but not on the same level as doctors and engineers, right? And they would need another class of services/goods to spend their reward for working to provide for the doctors and engineers right?

In paile-topia, the government blows up shit and covers it up, no one works, everything is paid for with Bitcoin and you learn everything from YouTube.

Uh no. In Paile-topia, every government employee including the president would be considered a job that is "not necessary to maintain basic fundamental requires of human sustainability". So they would've been gone.

There would be no government.

Oh and since "employment = slavery", Obama is just the chief slave.

Why are you guys being so abrasive about pailes opinion? Chill out fellows, we all are friends here.

Poor OP, his thread got hijacked lol

lmao

So how is life living with your parents watching cartoons all day? Must be nice.

Avatar based mockery aside, I do see the utopian idea of what you're saying but it's still utter bullshit. The 'useless' jobs you mention all perform a function - advertising for example - even if it wasn't expressly to sell products, people would still make things and need to make others aware of them. Barmen - people are still going to want to drink, etc.

edit: also, you've just imagined a two-tier society where 'useful' people are much better rewarded than the plebs with no discernable skill. Not particularly egalitarian.

Perhaps that has a little to do with calling jobs like sales, bartenders, etc, useless?

That's an insult to many people including the OP.

so how do you propose we all have a decent living and society without people working?

I believe in the distant future with technological advances this will be possible. Imagine all industry being carried out by machines; vehicles driving themselves, helper robots in every house, the garbage truck going around collecting waste on it's own....but that's a different thread lol.

Anime avatar, never fails.

Under what conditions were you employed? Do you have a contract? If so, this doesn't sound legal. Go there, confront him and try to record or film the conversation if possible.
