I spoiled Clannad for myself

And I'm so fucking mad. I was looking at the wiki for the Clannad movie to try and see if it was a continuation of the story or a retelling. In the upper section, I was reading that it was a reinterpretation of the novel and then bam.
I saw that Nagisa is alive at the end of the movie but not the show.

What the fuck.

Anyways, I recommend this show to everyone, including non-anime fans. Its great.

Tried to watch the anime series, but that art style is some ugly crap. Couldn't stand any of the characters, either, so I bailed at around episode 8-13.

Was suggested it after experiencing Angel Beats, which is one of my favorites.

Yeah the artstyle sucks ass, its sequel Clannad: After Story is where all the praise happens but unfortunately to understand it you have to get through the original Clannad which essentially is meh.

I've seen both Clannad and After Story which I enjoyed a lot.

After Story is definitely the pinnacle though.

This is one of those shows where the journey is just as important as the ending because of how things progress. I don't think just knowing the ending on its own is enough. This is about the only anime I've seen that dealt with *MAJOR SPOILERS*
a single parent trying to take care of their child and cope after losing their partner.
The art-style isn't that unique but it's animated by KyoAni and I think they did a good job. I heard such good recommendations that I was willing to give it a shot despite it not grabbing my attention immediately.

After Story is good. The ending is kind of dumb imo and takes away what could have been a really ballsy way to end the show.

Go finish it.

After seeing so many recommendations for it, especially (and, as you'll later see, ironically) from Katawa Shoujo related sites, I gave it a try some months ago.

First of all the art style is fucking ugly. It's so bad that I can totally understand someone not wanting to continue it purely for how fucking awful the characters look. Especially most of the females look outright derp-tarded.

But what's the real problem? The writing is complete and utter garbage. It's just terrible. Especially when the show tries to be so tragic at times; melodramatic times three. Humor is almost exclusively repetitive slap-stick comedy, in fact, the MCs best male friend appears to exist purely for the purpose of being the Butt Monkey.

The worst though are all the girl interests which have almost no interesting characteristics. They all share some oh so tragic background that requires them to be saved from our amazing MC that ends up doing every task for no other reason than out of the good of his heart. In short, he's a wonderful example for a Gary Stu who literally fixes the girls, all of which behave like mentally underdeveloped kids without real personality, while our MC, while completely bland, can at least think.

In Katawa Shoujo all the girls are actually well written characters which help Hisao with his problems as much (sometimes more) than he does help them with theirs. In fact, in KS the characters feel like actually characters with interests and what not and aren't defined purely by their disability or some tragic background.

Meanwhile in Clannad you've the most clichéd Moe Blobs. Even Nagisa who may develop the most has for the most part no interesting traits other then interest in the god damn Dango family, which of course is brought up a million times.

The weirdest thing? The last third of Afterstory is really quite good. Like, I'm not even kidding. Everything is completely shit and then the last third of Afterstory feels like it's written from a completely different studio/writer.

But I'm no good with words, so let me just link to an article that describes the issues with Clannad much better.

I definitely cannot recommend this anime. Even though the last third of Afterstory is good... that's like 1/6th of the entire show and you gotta swim through a lake of shit before you get there :/

I want to watch it too since recently actually.

I clicked the spoiler and guess what? I dont give a flying one.

Awwww man that sucks ass :(
I feel so sorry for you :(

One good thing is that you will prepared for the sea of feel that will accompany you towards the end.

When I was into animes like this (seems like a decade or more...), Air brought me to tears (the anime, and the movie as well). I was always a bit weirded out to see how sexually loaded the original games/stories seem to be compared to the clean and properly written anime. I do not see what could be gain by making the characters sleep together. Nope, nothing to gain.

Yea once you get passed the fact that Nagisa essentially looks like an insect, you should be able to appreciate what they went for.

It has good themes, but the melodrama held it back for me personally
,although I'll admit the last arcs in the second season got me
. What I took away from it more than anything is the OST. Some beautiful piano pieces in there.
