I started playing AC: Odyssey... and 25 Hours Later...

Why is this game's story so bad? Origins is literally one of my favorite games of all time. I am on Chapter 3... does the story get better? It's the first AC game outside of AC: Syndicate that I have become uninterested in. The game is gorgeous, but man does the protag suck. Am I judging it too soon?

i think they should have given Bayek the Ezio treatment.

Main game is kinda bad, the only good part is historical stuff and the builds. combat is absolutely fantastic best in the series. Really loved the pet build, made some things laughable easy.

I would not 100% it, i did it once and its brutal. Just get to level 50, start the first DLC which is decent, then start the last DLC which is the best of odyssey. 3 worlds with 3 short story's in them with all there own theme's.

I was kinda dissapointed by valhalla its god worlds, really with they didn't include them in the main game and made DLC's based on them like they did with odyssey and origin.

AC origin is also my favorite AC game. I really wish they would make another one, specially the god parts was really interesting with next gen graphics.

The story is just flat out awful. I didn't even bother to mess around with side quests and trophy hunting because I didn't like most of the game.

Ehhhh no.

But I'm a huge ancient greece buff so I was getting nerdgasms all over the place, like the first time you go up the stairs and see the statue of Athena Promachos and into the themple is the crisoelephantine Athena Parthenos. And of course the erechteyon with the porch of the caryatides. Granted it was all anachronistic but ehhh....

Chiills man, chills.
I'm a ancient greece stan as well, one of the reason first gow games are some of my favorite games ever. And yes there are some nice places in Odyssey but it's like barely 10% of the map, the ancient greece was poorly presented in Odyssey imo, while i think they did an incredible and amazing job in representing ancient Egypt in AC Origins.

And so this all remind me on how beautiful Origins was, here as some of my screencaps:

Yes, the game starts as the worst story ever, then it gets real good the more you continue. To give perspective, I finished it all in around 163 hours.

So far out of the new ones, Origins was my favorite. I did like Odyssey a lot, but would have to take long breaks from it.Valhalla though seems to suck. I don't care about any of the characters, or really remember them when they pop up again. The world is ok, but the missions are pretty bad. Just not any fun.....

And like someone else said, these are some rather well behaved vikings....

I enjoyed Odyssey with Cassandra after i stopped comparing it to Origin's, it's a superpowers, demigod game, not a Bayek , normal assassin/warrior/bow guy game, i couldn't beat it just using the normal skills.

Which protag? There are two.
Which story? There are like, 4? 5?

And please: Origins shat the bed when Bayek gets tossed aside during the end and you play his wife instead. She who was there for maybe 2% of the fucking game. Everyone who talks about how great Origins is skips that little tidbit.

Oh, and you're not going to like Valhalla. That story...oh boy. I could fucking write a book about that trainwreck.

You do know that Aya is actually "THE" legendary assassin of her time? Although Bayek did do most of everything as we play from his perspective, we don't know what she did later on as her statue is shown in AC 2 under Ezio's Estate. I have no idea if Ubi retconned this or its safe to say that Aya did some incredible things in Rome. Yes her statue is actually there when you're trying to unlock the Master Assassin Outfit. Also, the real ending is the Hidden Ones DLC in the Levant. Did you even play it? Just saying.

It doesn't matter what she did. We didn't play her story. We played Bayek. He was the protagonist of the game, not her. And yes, I did play the DLC. Does having to buy DLC to get the actual ending of the game make the situation better? Fuck no.

Lol in no way did his wife took over the game

Stop drunk posting. No-one said that.

the real question... how do you criticize the story before mentioning the awful gamedesign lol... I actually initially found the future era story interesting again for the first time since AC2... but the gameplay, gamedesign, world design... just everything about playing the game is so bad. at least the main missions... and I can't be arsed to run around searching for the few cool sidequests there are just to have fun

I literally play AC for the Story and Contextual World they built around the periods we visit. I love History so its nice to see the nods to real once captivating human beings. The game design is mechanical or utility for me and was best used in 2, Brotherhood or Unity (it was hard but fun). Honestly, if they just kept it at the learning simulator level as well, I wouldn't mind it. AC-AC3 with Desmond had the best story. The whole Sage storyline in between was a mess. And Leyla... well... meh.

Very fun game, great systems, the best podcast game since AC4, but the story is far from the best in the series. A few nice moments tho

Man, I swear my tastes are opposite of the norm when it comes to dislikes. I played this game non-stop from start to finish and loved it.

Kassandra was the only good point coming out from Odyssey . But I'm very disappointed with Ubisoft nowadays , pretty sure they still have some of the talented peoples around but I felt like their outputs were being let down by their directors and upper management . Their games are so generic now it's like their souls had been sucked dry.

Its average , better than Origins and Valhalla at least .

I don't like serious story(and protag) in video game (because its bad) so playing as Alexios is a joy . Though admitted the world map is a BIG downgrade from Origins . But you have more tools and ability so the game less boring toward the end (still boring af) .

Some good side quest compared to bland af Origin side quest . The game feel like adventure (90s tv show) , you going from this island to another island ,fix their problem, help some people , sail to the sunset at the end of the episode . Just dont do any side activites .
Each island (or group of island) have a set theme and most the side quest around relate to each other a little bit .

Nope. The story doesn't get better. There's not much of it, it's not interesting and whatever little is there is killed by the terrible pacing.
